Crystal Caves - Bermuda
Eerily quiet as we and another family were the only ones in the queue to explore the caves that day.
The cave is approximately 500 m long, and 62 m deep. Lower 19 – 20 m are below water level. The cave formed at lower sea level and, as the sea level rose, many speleothems, which formed in air, now are under water level.
A tourist attraction since 1907, it was discovered in 1905 by Carl Gibbons and Edgar Hollis, two 12-year-old boys searching for a lost cricket ball. Soon after, the Wilkinson family (the owners of the property since 1884) learned of the discovery, Mr. Percy Wilkinson lowered his 14-year-old son Bernard into it with a bicycle lamp on 140 feet of strong rope tied to a tree to explore the cave.
The area surrounding Harrington Sound (which lies to the south of Crystal Cave) is of limestone formation and noted for many subterranean waterways, through which the waters of the sound empty into the Atlantic. Crystal Cave is one of these, and - as its name suggests - is one of the most spectacularly beautiful, with many stalactites, stalagmites, and deep crystal-clear pools. However, some crystal formations have been damaged by earthquakes in the far past.
So many people seem to go searched the world to find their paradise, well here's one such location that could stop you having to search any further - and it's in probably one of the last places you would look for it...
This is one of the many beaches which can be found on the Western Isles of Scotland, in this case we're on the Isle of Vatersay which sits just south of Barra and is one of the last islands you can get to easily without having to charter a small boat to pay it a visit.
The sand is so light, delicate, white and the water is crystal clear which allows the sand and coral which lies beneath it's surface to put on a spectacular show of colour for all the world to see.

An abundance of oak leaves, that blow into the Cape Cod ponds in Fall, tint the water with varying tones of brown. The shallow water that flows through the streams gets this beautiful translucent golden brown color. Ponds and streams with this color are referred to around here as "tea-colored."

My first real macro attempt. You must be thinking: wtf is this? Well, it's a USB crystal-ish christmas tree, seen from above. It's about 12 cm high, with a golden star on top ;-) When you hook it up to a PC, it lights up in different colours.
I put it inside my DIY Macro Photo Studio and triggered a SB-800 Speedlight outside the box to the right, through CLS. Black paper background. Postprocessing with Nik Color Efex Pro and some minor editing in Lightroom. No tripod was used btw.

They say that less than 1/3 of all visitors to Denali National Park ever get to catch even a partial glimpse of the mountain. If you asked park employees this year, they would probably say that it was even lower, especially in the beginning of the year. For you to see the entire mountain, without any type of cloud obstruction, is a rare thing - in fact, they say if you do, you're now in the elite "10% Club". Well my friends, guess who just joined it this year? Yep, that's right, we spent 6-7 days in Denali this summer/early fall and this is what we saw this year. Unbelievably GORGEOUS! Especially with the added bonus of the fresh snowfall!
Having spent 6 summers visiting Denali, we have never been skunked (quick ... where's the wood to knock on? - knock, knock). Each trip we have seen the mountain at least 1/2 half of the time we were there - sometimes the majority, sometimes just a portion - but always something. Looking back through my images over the years, we had never been treated to 100% view. This image, shot from Stony Hill Overlook, is an iconic image of Denali - aka the "Great One" as the natives speak of it. Incredible to imagine that the mountain is still over 36 miles away!
This particular day was so surreal - gorgeous day, not a cloud in the sky, cold temperatures (a welcome relief to this south FL girl), wildlife galore ... I didn't want it to end. Not sure how we can top this view! But, of course, we will certainly try :-).
Hope that everyone's Monday was a good one. Thanks for stopping by to view and especially by all of your comments and thoughts. I've been truly humbled by all of them. Such a joy to read. As usual, stay tuned for more - including some more wildlife (yes, including bears).

Montana Rail Link's Gas Local heads east along the crystal clear Flathead River west of Perma, Montana, on MRL's 10th Subdivision. The local is lead by an SD45-2M/SD40-2 combo. Can't wait to go back!
An under water view of a Lane Davey and Guinn Allen swimming under a wave, that's roling across the reef at Off The Wall, on the north shore of Oahu, Hawaii.
Another shot with some graduated setup above the city of Rishikesh in between river Ganges, the water was crystal clear green like flowing emerald.
A shot from last year's cruise trip.
We leave tomorrow for this year's cruise and I can't wait!! I will miss all my Flickr friends but promise to bring back lots of new images to share.

It's mid-spring on Cape Cod, and today is an early gift of a beach day. The temperatures are perfect, there is barely any wind, and the crowds have not yet arrived. At the right tide, with bright mid-day overhead light, our Northside beaches take on a Caribbean look. The color though is special... its slightly different than a tropical beach, and that makes it our own.

This bad boy was rising early in the evening, when Sam came and told to bring out the camera. I slapped the teleconverter on and the rest is digital history.
A quiet day in paradise at Coral Gardens Resort in Turks and Caicos. This beach is very popular for snorkeling due to the large area of coral reef close to the shoreline. We had the beach to ourselves that day which made it the perfect day at the beach.
I love the natural beauty of the Turks and Caicos islands. This photo is a perfect example.

My cousin who lives in Cornwall took us to some very beautiful off the beaten track areas, the day was glorious and really hot. The colour of the water was exceptional, my cousin said he had never seen such colours in the Cornish seas in the 30 odd years he had lived there. Guess we were very lucky.

Salento.
Salento (Salentu in local dialect) is the south-eastern extremity of the Apulia region of Italy. It is a sub-peninsula of the main Italian peninsula, sometimes described as the "heel" of the Italian "boot". It encompasses the entire administrative area of the province of Lecce, a large part of the administrative area of Brindisi and part of that of Taranto. The peninsula is also known as Terra d'Otranto, and in ancient times was called variously Messapia, Calabria, and Salentina.

History
Messapia (from Greek Μεσσαπία) was the ancient name of a region of Italy largely corresponding to modern Salento. It was inhabited chiefly by the Messapii in classical times. Pokorny derives the toponym from PIE *medhyo-, "middle" and PIE *ap-, "water" (Mess-apia, "amid waters"; Note: the asterisk before a word indicates that it is a hypothetical construction, not an attested form). Pokorny compares the toponym Messapia to another ancient Italic toponym, Salapia, "salt water", a city in Apulia.
Salento peninsula is a rock of limestone dividing the Adriatic Sea from the Ionian Sea. Known also as "peninsula salentina", from a geo-morphologic point of view it encompasses the land borders between Ionian sea and the Adriatic sea to the “Messapic threshold”, a depression that runs along the Taranto-Ostuni line and separates it from the Murge. Its borders are:
Taranto, in the province of the same name;
Pilone, in the territory of Ostuni (province of Brindisi),
Santa Maria di Leuca, in the province of Lecce.

Thanks to jon_beard for letting me know the type of fish: The odd one is a Golden Rainbow Trout. They're artificially cultivated (since being bright gold/yellow makes gets you eaten quickly in the wild.) Usually, they're used as novelty or marker fish so that people can see them and then be able to see the otherwise harder to spot rainbow trout they're swimming with. www.flickr.com/photos/jonbeard/
