My Travel Bug...

No Traffic...No People...No Problems. Just Me and the only thoughts of a perfect beach and the sound and smell of the ocean in my mind....In isolation.

I was thinking of a Corona Commercial at this moment (minus the Corona, Ew!)

There are no cars in this small barely 4 mile round island. I walked about a mile, after getting off the boat along the shore, until I decided that this would be the spot to take it all in. It was low tide and the time? Who cares. The sun was really at it's peak here so it must have been 1 or 2 pm. Then bare feet in the crystal clear water I picked up some seashells topless in the shallow water. And then hiked back another mile through some mangrove lined trail to the other side of the island.

This is the 2nd BEST beach, I have ever traveled to and discovered by hiking/exploring in my life.

This was forbidden, of course... But I didn't know that until later.

Who knew Lake Michigan could look this pretty?

I. love. the. city.

I want to go back. Soon.

Sapphire Pool, named for its blue, crystal-clear water and for its resemblance to an Oriental sapphire, was once a placid hot pool (Temperature 200-202°F). It was not until after the 1959 earthquake that major eruptions occurred. For several years following the earthquake powerful eruptions at two hour intervals reached 150 feet. The force of the eruptions caused the crater to double in size, destroying the biscuit-like formations around its edge, and the crystal-clear water became murky. By 1968 Sapphire ceased to function as a true geyser. Today Sapphire still retains its crystal-clear, blue water, and still violently boils and surges occasionally.

It's mid-spring on Cape Cod, and today is an early gift of a beach day. The temperatures are perfect, there is barely any wind, and the crowds have not yet arrived. At the right tide, with bright mid-day overhead light, our Northside beaches take on a Caribbean look. The color though is special... its slightly different than a tropical beach, and that makes it our own.

The Kokatahi River flows down from the Southern Alps to join the Hokitika River west of the mountains. The turquoise colour is typical of the glacial waters flowing down from the mountains here.

The colouring is caused by 'rock flour', fine particles of silt ground off rocks by the glaciers these waters originate from.

"Colors of Lake Michigan Abstract 02" by Patti Deters. Fourth in this series, the gorgeous colors of Lake Michigan are seen here in this abstract photograph captured along Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. During a clear, sunny day the lake often appears a brilliant and inviting turquoise, with shades ranging from a pale, almost translucent, blue near the shore to a deeper, more vibrant teal further out. This mesmerizing and enchanting coloration along with the random shapes of the lakebed offer up lovely and peaceful imagery.
