More practicing people shots. This one was too easy since she was talking animatedly on her cell phone while she was folding laundry. How do folks manage that? Every time I try I cut off whoever I'm talking to. :-)
The infamous house on the hill looms over Los Angeles like an old friend, long forgotten to time and sits empty waiting for anyone to fully understand the stories that the walls have witnessed first hand.
It was here Dr. Harold Perelson on the eve of December 6th, 1959 had gone mad, killing his wife with the intent of killing their three children as well. When the eldest daughter escaped and got help, Dr. Perelson had taken his life and let the house and its tragedies be lost to history.
Despite the house being handed over to a woman, and later her son, the house was left as a time capsule with no one daring to live within those walls since the murder all those decades ago.
For the first time, the time capsule has been open and welcomed its first visitors outside of its owner to explore the ballroom on the top floor and old fashioned bar, the four master bedrooms, gorgeous staircase, and the evidence of life left behind.
We had heard this train on the radio working the yard at Warwick. We either missed it coming back out on its tracks or decided to get ahead of it and intercept it at Canal Fulton, which is where this image was made.
I totally hate this time of the year and wish I could hibernate until the end of March. The holidays are kind of a pain in the butt, the weather is cold and dreary, I become totally unmotivated in many things (including photography), etc.
But this time around, I'm trying to make some changes. I'm thinking right now about the many pairs of cute boots that have been languishing in my closet that I can now wear. I bought a cranberry scarf, mittens and hat to brighten me up on drab winter days. And I'm going back to school. I think studying math and science, after so many years will at least keep my mind off of the winter blues.
So, I'm going to kick myself in the butt and go out and shoot something, anything this weekend. Or maybe I'll stay in and learn how to finally use my flash. Or I could just buy a plane ticket and fly to Florida for a few days :-)
UP SD60M #2388 is on the back end of a southbound sand train overtaking a tied down MBUPR behind an almost empty landscape along the north side of Green Street. The warehouse picture here, Phoenix Welding, was torn down the week after this shot was taken in preparation for the construction of the O'Hare West Bypass.
I bought this two Ariel dolls on ebay,from 1997, I had them when I was a kid, Ariel was and is my favorite disney princess :P

Had a few shots today that I really liked, but ended up coming back to this one, another experiment with light trails.
This is an abandoned service station that I drive by on the commute (at least when traffic on this route is light), on Route 9 eastbound in Wellesley, Massachusetts. I've probably seen it a few hundred times, but I noticed it a few mornings ago and figured that those big windows would be mirrors on the traffic at night. Stopped in on the way home tonight, and shot some light trails from the passing traffic reflected in the windows.
Nikon D7000 with Nikkor 18-200 at 32mm, 4s @ Ę/11, ISO400. Camera was on a tripod and I was shooting with the remote release. Cropped a bit and did some minor color correcting in Aperture.
