Storm Cloud over France illuminated by the setting sun.
Our flight home took us from Alghero Airport in northwest Sardinia past the west coast of Corsica and over France and southern Britain to Dublin. I got a window seat on the right hand side in the hope of getting some aerial shots of Corsica but due to a late departure , it was too dark to get anything useful. However, once we were at altitude we stayed in the sunset all the way to Dublin – I guess our northwesterly flight track took us towards the sun and towards longer day length and that meant we were able to keep up with the sun. Shooting through the average thick and scratched airplane window gives lots of dud but I liked this one.
Deep in the outskirts of East Berlin, a tired, haunted Castle hosts debauched revelries that began with pounding music, cheap German beer and thrilling dance sequences. The rituals ended in intoxicated enlightenment, twisted spines and arizona dreams.
Enough with the procrastination.

A dull, wet and misty day at Duxford. Not ideal for spectators nor photographers!
The Red Arrows were amazing and the poor light allowed a lot of contrast boost to bring out the exhaust trails.

This is a photograph from the second running of the Athlone Flatline Half Marathon ("The Flatline") was held at Athlone, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Saturday 14th September 2013 at 11:00. There was beautiful weather for the event which started and finished at St. Aloysius College near the Canal Banks area of the town just slightly west of the River Shannon. This event was professionally organised and the very flat course meant that many runners both seasoned and new to the scene achieved season or personal bests. Almost 1,000 participants successfully completed the event in the beautiful September sunshine. Everyone involved must be congratulated for the flawless running of the event. This event is sure to go from strength to strength over the coming years. The "Flatline" also included an option for a full marathon which was fully supported by the Marathon Club of Ireland and the East of Ireland Marathon Series. This allowed participants to run the Flatline twice for the qualifying marathon distance. About 80 people took part.

Overall Race Summary
Participants: Such is the popularity of the race this year that registration closed for the race in mid-August 2013. There were well over 1,000 participants who took to the start line.
Weather: The weather on the day was almost perfect for running. The runners were bathed in warm September sunshine for the duration of the race and into the early afternoon. In the sections of the race out towards Clonown and around the Bord na Mona areas there was a stiff breeze but nothing major.
Course: "The Flatline" ceratinly lived up to its name. It is as flat a course as one is likely to find. A garmin connect gps trace of the route is provided here [connect.garmin.com/activity/199678412] Geographically the course spends much of the race in County Roscommon with only the first and last kilometers actually in County Westmeath. This gives geographically inclined runners the novel opportunity to race in two Irish provinces in one race. The course had distance markers at every kilometre and mile along the way. There were official pacers provided by the race organisers.

Refreshments: An Alkohol Frei bottle of Erdinger was provided to every finisher as they crossed the line. Light refreshments were served.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. Metrobus' 487 (YN53 RYZ) heads into Redhill on a 460 to Epsom. There's quite a good view around East Surrey from deckers, especially of the North Downs.

A Fleet Week Saturday aboard the USS Nimitz.
The day began at San Francisco Airport, where I boarded a US Navy C-2 transport plane at sunrise for a flight out to the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz, which was cruising 50 miles off the California Coast. After landing on the flight deck, we disembarked for a tour while the ship sailed toward San Francisco to participate in the Fleet Week "Parade of Ships." Upon clearing the Golden Gate Bridge, the Nimitz launched three F-18s from the flight deck as we cruised past Fisherman's Wharf. From there we continued onward, under the Bay Bridge to an anchorage in the middle of the San Francisco Bay, just off South Beach. And then I had to go home.
It was a very remarkable day. Many thanks to the US Navy for extending the invitation, and the kind sailors who showed us around their ship!

From a hillside N. of Belmont, NE we spy BNSF coal loads and empties coming and going on this gorgeous 8-24-2008 day. Within ten minutes of the passing of these two trains, the wind blowing through the pine trees and the chirping of the birds was all that could be heard.
This picture was really hard to scan, but I tried my best. It shows the coming soon sign for the Country Bears at Disneyland.

Sutlej River (Punjabi: ਸਤਲੁਜ, Sanskrit: सुटुद्रि Hindi: सतलुज also known as Satluj), is the longest of the five rivers that flow through the historic cross-road region known as the Punjab in northern India as well as Pakistan, and is located north of the Vindhya Range, south of the Hindu Kush segment of the Himalayas, and east of the Central Makran range in Pakistan. Its source is in Tibet near Mount Kailash, and its terminus in Pakistani Punjab near the port city of Karachi via the Indus.
It is the easternmost tributary river of the Indus River, which overall, drains the ancient and historically important region of Greater Punjab. Located in the shadow of the Vindhya range, the region to its south and east is arid and known in different regions as the Great Indian Desert or Thar Desert, which more or less parallels both the river and the border between Pakistan and Rajistan. Flowing generally south-southwest from its headwaters, the Sutlej River joins first with the Beas River in the state of Punjab, India and continues south-westerly into Pakistan to mix with the Chenab River, forming the Panjnad River south of ancient Multan. From the confluence near Khanpur, the Panjnad joins the Indus River at Mithankot, whereafter the large river flows through a gorge near Sukkur and flows through a fertile plains region known as the Sind until it reaches the Arabian Sea.
The Sutlej was known as Shatadru or Suṭudri to Indians in the Vedic period.

A heavy freight canal, known as the SLY (Sutlej-Yamuna Link), is being built eastwards through Punjab near an ancient caravan route and highlands pass from the Sutlej watershed to connect near the source of the largest tributary of the Ganges, the Yamuna river, and when complete will allow shipping from India's east coast to the west coast.
