After being tinkered on at EMD's LaGrange facility, Metra F40PH 107 was coming off the Harbor at B12 for Bensenville. Metra will send out one of their little switchers to fetch it and take it back sometime later; the 107 will soon be back out leading a scoot.
This little garden is on the near west side of Detroit. The significance for me is it may very well be on an empty lot where one of my mother's childhood homes once stood. I also find it significant because it makes a statement about the resourcefulness of the folks in Detroit- a turning lemons into lemonade kind of a thing. Around the corner, right off Cass Avenue, sits a vacant corner lot. The locals have salvaged old couches and discarded auto bench seats and have fashioned a small park with the make- do seating placed under of the shade of a few low hanging maple trees.
In a few weeks my sister is coming up from Florida for her summer visit. This may be the last summer in Michigan for my folks as they prepare to move south. I think we will take my folks down to Greektown for dinner, maybe stop by the DIA- my Mother's favorite place- and drive through her old neighborhood. Maybe capture a few shots for her take with her to Florida. A reminder of her home.
Here's to 2018 and the enjoyment and laughter it holds. Remember to take in with you the openness and kindness. Remove the hatred and live a more relaxed and joyful year.

...on the Acey Goes to Heaven ripple ghan. The silver/buff/pink motif is Acey herself. Started this ghan in 2010, and it's one of the craft projects I promised I would finish before starting others this year.
I can always tell when winter's coming - the guys lay down the "snow fence" in the field across the street -- it's supposed to control drifting snow...I go running to the closet for an extra blanket!

Washington DC, Friday September 20, 2019. Strike! On a beautiful late summer day thousands gathered in John Marshall Park and marched a short distance to the lawn of the US Capitol to protest the failure of Trump's Republican Party to deal with the coming climate emergency. The Republicans will now face a unified left that has finally connected the dots between environmental degradation, corporate capitalism, growing income inequality, racism, militarism and other structural evils of our society.
As excited as I am about the New Fantasyland Expansion...from the rides to all the new photo ops...there's a part of me that wishes it would all open at one time. Look at all the excitement over Cars Land! It looks amazing. By opening Fantasyland bit by bit, is it going to take away from the "Oh, wow" factor?
I love this part of the road coming into the village of Plumbridge, Co. Tyrone where you get a great view of the main chain of the Sperrin Mountains, particularly the rugged and rocky summit of Mullaghcarbatagh (centre).

Two 319s cross coming in and out of Smithfield Tunnels into Barbican Station. Keen eyed observers travelling through these tunnels will be able to see the old tunnel branching off that ran into the underground of Smithfield Meat Market.
The setting sunlight backlit this dark purple sweet pea (Lathyrus odoratus 'Blue Velvet'?) beautifully yesterday. The light was particularly orange due to lingering smoke from area forest fires.
The cold and hot spells of weather seem to have augmented the flake patterns in a lot of my sweet peas. The dots in the background are more sweet pea flowers in the next row.
