This Christmas I want to send a message of peace to everyone!
I especially want to acknowledge those artists from all over the world, who come to Flickr and show how beautiful a virtual world can be. I also want to thank everyone who takes real life photos that are wonderful. I follow you both with great enthusiasm.
For both kinds of pictures, I feel a job well done deserves a "Favorite" which I give with joy. There are so many, it think the phrase to describe it might be best as “Like a lot”.
I wish everyone’s Christmas to be, above all, quiet and serene, and that it makes you smile
and fills your heart with great hope and joy. I also hope that you share it with your friends and family. This is the best gift you can give or receive this Christmas.

I am in the midst of a break from Flickr that turned out to be a bit longer than I originally anticipated, but I wanted to jump on and send out warm holiday wishes to everyone. I'll be back on Flickr on a regular basis in the new year.
A veritable mountain of bokeh, May peace and light be with you, now and always. Lord knows we need it.
Christmas can be many things for many different people. When I was a kid, Christmas was that wonderful day when we got many presents and ate many sweet things. Regrettably, it took me a while to understand that not all had had so many presents or eaten so many sweet things, but that is another story.
Later, it became the season when we spent days and days shopping for presents to give to family, friends, office colleagues and, and, and… Once in Japan, Christmas was the day when I had to play Santa (what has this got to do with Christmas?) and eat sushi, which, even though a delicacy, made me feel very very homesick.
Now, my children married and living away, it became the day when my wife and I have some special treat, like pork sirloin roasted in the oven or some special codfish recipe. A glass of champagne is mandatory, a few drops for my wife who can drink no alcohol. The old tree keeps us company.
What is, after all, Christmas? We are taught it is the day when we celebrate the birth of Christ. But is that all there is to it, or is there anything more? There must be. Christmas centred on a Santa Claus reinvented by Coca-Cola is so different from the christian celebrations of my youth around the Christmas creche that there must be a common thread somewhere.
We first note that Christmas is celebrated on the 25th of December although the birthdate of Christ is known to no one. Then you read about the first christians building churches on top or near old temples to easily gather around them people who went to the temple of old. Next we hear that there was sometime around the longest night of the year a major pagan gathering to celebrate the new year reborn from the dead of winter, and you are mesmerised at the sagacity of early christians. After all Christmas might be the celebration of the birth of Christ but it is essentially all about redemption of our sins (I would rather say faults) and, now cleansed, rebirth.
Christmas is for me the time when we look back and forward, into our heart and soul, and outward to the world we created, and, maybe with a humble heart, approach our relatives, our friends, neighbours, our fellow men and wish them "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year".

Exporail's Christmas Train has just left Hays Station with CP 1608 leading generator car AMT 603 and ex-CP cars AMT 827 & AMT 900. The latter is a Vickers gallery cab car that was donated to Exporail earlier this year. Originally GP9 AMT 1311 was going to lead, but its batteries are dead and it will not be running this year.
While driving home after working in Kyle of Lochalsh I was determined not to stop at Dornie to snap Eilean Donan Castle (for the umpteenth time), but the Christmas tree was unexpected and I just had to do it - sorry!
This is probably the nearest thing to a Christmas Card you will get from me; so Merry Christmas everyone. :-)

Here she is again, my beloved Christmas Fairy, and she wants to make all your wishes come true. I have had this glitzy little lady for 20 years, and she has been the crowning glory on my Christmas trees through the years, both artificial and real :-)

I was playing with an interesting process for this Pano. I shot 10 vertical groups of 30 images, total 300 images. I did this using my intervalometer to fire off 30 shots for each of the 10 segments of the Pano. Why might you ask? It is just my nature to experiment and play with technology. Anyway, I was interested in a pseudo "long exposure" effect for cloud movement. without shooting an actual long exposure. This works well when its bright and sunny and you just can't get a long exposure, even with a ND filter. The wind was blowing, and the clouds were moving in the distance. By shooting 30 shots continuous one after another I captured the clouds in a slightly different position due to their movement with each shot. Then back in Photoshop there is a process called (Smart Object Stack mode, mean) where you load all your images as layers in Photoshop. then you convert all 30 into a single Smart Object. then you use the Stack Mode and select mean. Photoshop processes them all together into a single image rendering the different cloud positions as a fluid movement as if it was a single long exposure. I did this for each of the 10 segments.
If you look at the Sky, it has movement, but the mountains are sharp. I shot these at 1/400th of a sec. (This is not a Photoshop or AI blur effect)
Ok,Ok, so much for my lesson for the day.

My ornaments have come out of their hiding spot in the attic once again and are waiting for their time in the spotlight. Traditionally in Austria, the tree does not get decorated until the late afternoon or evening of the 24th. The "Christkind", the Christ Child, brings the presents, not Father Christmas or Santa. We will read the story of christmas from the bible, light the candles on the tree and then sing the most famous Austrian Christmas song, Silent Night. If you don't know the story of the song, it is a nice one. Here is a clip at a church which has a similar celebration to the one here in my town.

As the year comes to an end I reflect on this years ups and downs. Sadly its been more downs than ups, but overall I can't complain. I'm so thankful for my family and good friends that made this Christmas so wonderful. Hope you had a lovely Christmas too.
The Christmas tree have to go tomorrow, but I will as always keep my ornament heart until next year. Its a symbol on what's most important in life.
