Christmas baubles?
PETER:
I don't think the Christmas tree looks festive yet. It needs more coloured baubles .
That's why I borrowed the tricycle from Big Sister Maileg to transport the baubles. I hung them behind the tricycle so I can pull them
It's easier than with my bike.
OLEG:
I think the Christmas tree looks nice enough.
But if you think there should be more coloured baubles then you should.
I wonder how the balls get to the tree. In pieces I'm afraid

The weekend before last my parents and I drove to a place in the neighboring town which is full of christmas roses. Unfortunately I felt pretty bad because I was at a party the day before, but nevertheless I took some pictures of these wonderful flowers, where I really like this one due to the nice bokeh which seems to cover the flower. Hope you like it!

Christmas in the Philippines

Christmas, in Tagalog: Pasko, is by far the most important celebrations day of the Philippines, months before the 25th of december, preparations start. The malls, houses, streets, churches, well, everything is decorated with the most beautiful christmas lights and colours. In the Philippines, Pasko, is not only about celebrating with family and loved ones, there it is also about sharing.

Spirobranchus giganteus is similar to most tube-building polychaetes. It has a tubular, segmented body of an approximate length of 3.8 cm (1.5 in) covered with chaetae, small appendages that aid the worm's mobility. Because it does not move outside its tube, this worm does not have any specialized appendages for movement or swimming.
The worms' most distinct features are two "crowns" shaped like Christmas trees. These are highly modified prostomial palps, which are specialized mouth appendages. Each spiral is composed of feather-like tentacles called radioles, which are heavily ciliated and cause any prey trapped in them to be transported to the worm's mouth. While they are primarily feeding structures, S. giganteus also uses its radioles for respiration; hence, the structures commonly are called "gills".
One major difference between Christmas tree worms and the closely related Sabellida fan worms is that the latter do not have any specialized body structures to plug their tube holes when they withdraw into them. S. giganteus, like other members of its family, possesses a modified radiole, usually called the operculum, that it uses to secure its hole when withdrawn into its tube.
As an annelid, S. giganteus possesses a complete digestive system and has a well-developed closed circulatory system. Like other annelids, these worms possess well-developed nervous systems with a central brain and many supporting ganglia, including pedal ganglia, unique to the Polychaeta. Like other polychaetes, S. giganteus excretes with fully developed nephridia. When they reproduce, they simply shed their gametes straight into the water where the eggs and spermatozoa become part of the zooplankton to be carried by the currents. Quick cell shot of the shrub in my yard. Some freezing rain had just falling and it looked so beautiful.

I am in the midst of a break from Flickr that turned out to be a bit longer than I originally anticipated, but I wanted to jump on and send out warm holiday wishes to everyone. I'll be back on Flickr on a regular basis in the new year.
Exporail's Christmas Train has just left Hays Station with CP 1608 leading generator car AMT 603 and ex-CP cars AMT 827 & AMT 900. The latter is a Vickers gallery cab car that was donated to Exporail earlier this year. Originally GP9 AMT 1311 was going to lead, but its batteries are dead and it will not be running this year.
Christmas can be many things for many different people. When I was a kid, Christmas was that wonderful day when we got many presents and ate many sweet things. Regrettably, it took me a while to understand that not all had had so many presents or eaten so many sweet things, but that is another story.
Later, it became the season when we spent days and days shopping for presents to give to family, friends, office colleagues and, and, and… Once in Japan, Christmas was the day when I had to play Santa (what has this got to do with Christmas?) and eat sushi, which, even though a delicacy, made me feel very very homesick.
Now, my children married and living away, it became the day when my wife and I have some special treat, like pork sirloin roasted in the oven or some special codfish recipe. A glass of champagne is mandatory, a few drops for my wife who can drink no alcohol. The old tree keeps us company.
What is, after all, Christmas? We are taught it is the day when we celebrate the birth of Christ. But is that all there is to it, or is there anything more? There must be. Christmas centred on a Santa Claus reinvented by Coca-Cola is so different from the christian celebrations of my youth around the Christmas creche that there must be a common thread somewhere.
We first note that Christmas is celebrated on the 25th of December although the birthdate of Christ is known to no one. Then you read about the first christians building churches on top or near old temples to easily gather around them people who went to the temple of old. Next we hear that there was sometime around the longest night of the year a major pagan gathering to celebrate the new year reborn from the dead of winter, and you are mesmerised at the sagacity of early christians. After all Christmas might be the celebration of the birth of Christ but it is essentially all about redemption of our sins (I would rather say faults) and, now cleansed, rebirth.
Christmas is for me the time when we look back and forward, into our heart and soul, and outward to the world we created, and, maybe with a humble heart, approach our relatives, our friends, neighbours, our fellow men and wish them "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year".
A veritable mountain of bokeh, May peace and light be with you, now and always. Lord knows we need it.
