Christmas is a summery time here in Melbourne with many of us going down to the beach, wining and dining in many seaside cafes. So here is a montage of the tinsel stars found in Williamstown along with a soft toy character decorating the window of one of the cafes. Happy Christmas to you all and here's hoping we can catch up for more photography in the coming year.

Yesterday was a fabulous day. I received feedback on my first uni assignment (I passed, with better marks than I wished for) and I spent the evening Ice Skating, taking photographs and having a lovely time at the Birmingham Christmas Market.
Outside Birmingham market there is this beautiful giant ferris wheel and obviously I had to take a photograph of it. I needed to capture the amazing colours being lit on it and reflected from all the surfaces I walked past. The spirit of Christmas was high in Birmingham last night and the Christmas spirit is continuing to stay with me!

The popular name for this plant is actually a Christmas Cactus and I had originally planned to post it a few weeks ago. For whatever reason it never happened but rather than keep it for another year...
I did struggle with finding a composition that wasn't too cluttered because once this cactus starts flowering, it is covered in beautiful, but very short lived blooms.
Snapped as a whole, (at least by me!) it can look like a big red compost heap but trying to pick out an individual bloom can also be problematic.
Christmas tree worms (Spirobranchus giganteus) are found on the tops of rounded corals. They are worms, and each worm has two structures, radioles, that project into the water for respiration. Radioles bristle with cilia which capture plankton and phytoplankton and pass it down to the worm's mouth. Each worm can withdraw its radioles in a blink if it senses danger. The worms can live to 40 years old.
I have not yet found anything about the variation in color.
