My ornaments have come out of their hiding spot in the attic once again and are waiting for their time in the spotlight. Traditionally in Austria, the tree does not get decorated until the late afternoon or evening of the 24th. The "Christkind", the Christ Child, brings the presents, not Father Christmas or Santa. We will read the story of christmas from the bible, light the candles on the tree and then sing the most famous Austrian Christmas song, Silent Night. If you don't know the story of the song, it is a nice one. Here is a clip at a church which has a similar celebration to the one here in my town.

The bloom has opened further since my previous photo, and I adjusted the composition a little, also adding some reflected light on the right side.
Our Christmas celebrations in Poland mainly take place on the Christmas Eve on the 24th of December, so I use this occasion to wish you all the best for the holidays, with this picture of a special Christmas-Tram in Gdańsk. It was running the special line number 1 between the city center and Gdańsk Strzyża - where I took the photo. The tram - 105Na #06205 was produced in 1977 in the Konstal works in Chorzów and is now one of two(?) working historical trams in Gdańsk. It was decorated with lights and reindeer attachments for the holidays.

Our tradition is to try and get the Christmas decorations up the first weekend in December and we were particularly keen this year as we had family popping in on Sunday for a cuppa. JJ and I ordered a new tree this year - a white one - I always used to be a bit negative about white ones but we thought it would show the colourful decs and lights off well and it was a very cheap bargain. We have several artificial Christmas trees in our loft now but I heard it's fine as long as you keep your tree at least 11 years (to make it equally environmentally friendly compared to a real tree). We will keep our trees a lifetime!!
