Defocussed Christmas tree. I took this picture with a Canon RP and Leica M mount Voigtlander 40mm Nokton f1.2 using a close focus LM to EOS R adapter. I think this is why there is so much cats eye bokeh as it was seriously out of focus.
After almost 3 years of not shooting these for CHRISTmas, I am happy to be able to shoot these once more. Despite everything that is 2020, God is good. CHRISTmas is about Christ. We are remembering Him and it’s a birthday celebration where the celebrator gave the gift - Himself as a sacrifice for our sins. May this season be all about Him and may we all come to know Him as our Lord and Savior.
My Kindle delivered a story of the best Christmas letter I've seen written in Ireland. It's 100 years old this year, written by Hannah “Annie” Howard, to Santa.
From the Irish Times:
"The slightly scorched missive, dating from Christmas Eve 1911, when Hannah was 10 years old, was discovered up a chimney in a house in Terenure, Dublin.
"Sitting at home in Bangor, Co Down, while his wife read out details of the story, Mr Bartlem initially failed to make any connection between himself and the young girl in the story. Even when the address on the letter – Oaklands Terrace, Terenure – was mentioned, he put it down to coincidence.
"It was only when he heard the name Hannah that he realised the girl in the letter was his mother.
"His mother’s carefully crafted Christmas wishlist, topped with a good luck message for Santa, was discovered in the chimney by the house’s current occupant, John Byrne, when he was installing central heating in 1992. He kept the letter as a memento of times past, deciding only to publicise its existence this year to mark its 100th anniversary.
"In her letter, Hannah, like many 10-year-olds, is quite explicit about what she wants from Santa."
She wrote, "I want a baby doll and a waterproof with a hood and a pair of gloves and a toffee apple and a gold penny and a silver sixpence and a long toffee.”
Because the letter was signed “A or H Howard”, it was initially thought to be jointly from Hannah and her younger brother, Alfred.
But as the Irish Times discovered, "Hannah went by the name 'Annie', hence the 'A or H Howard' on the letter, a clever insurance policy in case Santa got confused.
"Hannah was born on Christmas Day 1900. The excitement of having her birthday on the same day as Santa’s arrival must have been considerable.
"Mr Bartlem said his mother attended the Zion Church of Ireland school in Rathgar before going on to marry Alfred Bartlem in 1931, with whom she had two sons, Howard and Victor. She and Alfred moved to a house on Lomond Avenue, Fairview, shortly after they married, where she died in 1978.
"Mr Bartlem said his mother had been extremely creative, excelling at various forms of needlework and later at woodwork. She was also an expert baker of cakes and other confectionery, which may go some way to explaining her toffee-themed letter to Mr Claus.
"Hannah’s niece, Iris Murphy, who lives in Stillorgan, Dublin, was also alerted to the letter’s existence only yesterday, when her daughter in Tasmania read about it on irishtimes.com.

Our Christmas tree. I centered on the tree and exposed for 10 seconds and the zoomed in for an additional two seconds.
Trying to quiet down for the Christmas Eve . In Polish tradition the most important family gathering of the year. “Wigilia” is the the Christmas Eve supper that starts with the sight of first star . Twelve dishes ( but no meat ) bursch , karp , herring , pierogis …. and a special empty setting in case of unexpected guest , a symbol of Polish hospitality . After the supper kids will open gifts and many of the families will attend Midnight Mass ( Pasterka )

But … Please spare a thought at Christmas for the people in the world less fortunate than ourselves.
Shiloh is a shelter for homeless and disadvantaged people in Rotherham, providing a hot meal, washing and shower facilities. For the last few Christmas Days I have volunteered here to help prepare and serve a nice turkey dinner for the homeless and disadvantaged. No praise in the comments please - it's missing the point of posting the picture, and there are loads of people that do this, and many that do much, much more.
Every year the numbers we host at Shiloh grows, and I fear as our country (and the World) lurches ever more towards the arrogant, selfish and greedy right wing (the politics of division and hate where money means more than life - will we never learn ?) the numbers WILL sadly continue to grow. It's good that we can help, but sad that we have to. But the little bit of effort from the individuals that help means a lot more to the people we help. So the gain is huge.
So have a fantastic Christmas, but as I said, please spare a thought for the many that are less fortunate than ourselves.
Apologies for the unplanned little political rant - sometimes I have to kick the soapbox from under my feet once I get started.

For the challenge this week. Today I received the Wallpaper Flowers stamp from Tomo which I had won on her blog. I thought it might look nice in red and green for a Christmas card. I colored the flowers and leaves with diluted distress inks. I added the metallic décor and a ponsietta flower to comply with the challenge. The papers are Basic Grey.
