It's not the time of year right now, but this were the Christmas lights in Skopje, the capital of Macedonia (to be exact: FYROM, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia).
The Macedonian orthodox church celebrates Christmas, like many of the orthodox churches, on Januar 6th. Therefore everything was still in full anticipation, when we went there on the evening of January 1st, with the first bus from Sofia.
The Christmas lights looked really nice and overwhelming (no comparison to Sofia), but if you look closely you can see a T-Mobile-logo as star on the christmas tree in the background, it also explains the color ... Commercialisation everywhere :(
I'm still getting out the Christmas decorations, in the meantime I'm enjoying last year's decorations.
I love my old Teddy, a gift from my Aunt Margie when I was seven years old (which qualitfies it as "vintage" - maybe even "antique"!
It's so much fun to revisit my Christmas souvenirs every year, a lovely walk down memory lane.

Birds and flowers Hero Arts (Two Birds) CG152
Background was inked with Antique Linen Distress ink, then sponged with same ink. Vintage Photo distress ink around edges. Flowers stamped in Peeled Paint distress ink direct to paper. Then stamped again on scrap card in Fired Brick ink,cut out and paper pieced to first image.
Birds and flowers coloured with aquabrush and distress inks.
Inks used for birds...tattered rose,victorian velvet and fired brick.
Christmas markets on Dublin's Saint Stephens Green. This is something of a new tradition, started off in recent years by "farmers markets " at holiday times & with huge footfall along Stephens Green stretching from the shopping centre to Kildare Street, most of the wooden cabins are now open for business.
Every Christmas when I pull out the wrapping paper I think of my mom who was the master wrapper -- I swear she had some kind of topological formula in her head to wrap presents with the absolute least amount of wasted paper ("okay, this present will fit that way, and then if I get that one over there and lay it sideways along that end of the roll . . .")

CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait — Soldiers from the 1st Theater Sustainment Command and the 143d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) participated in various social and spiritual activities to celebrate the holiday season.
On Christmas Eve hundreds of service members, Department of Defense civilians and contractors gathered at a hangar decked out for the holidays. Put together by 1st TSC and 143d ESC Soldiers along with the helping hands of Morale, Welfare and Recreation employees, the event included a buffet dinner, a visit from St. Nicholas and a secret Santa gift exchange in front of a Christmas tree. Several Soldiers and civilians demonstrated their singing or dancing skills on stage during a “Camp Arifjan’s Got Talent” show judged by members of the 143d ESC’s junior enlisted ranks.
Though the celebration generated much laughter and applause from the lively crowd, some Soldiers preferred to spend Christmas Eve at a more solemn venue.
Chaplains and chaplain assistants deployed to Camp Arifjan hosted a Christmas Eve vigil at the post chapel that evening. The nondenominational Christian service wove scripture readings and traditional Christmas carols before the congregation brought the service to its climax as it illuminated the chapel with hundreds of lit candles.
The celebration continued the next day with a 5k run and a Christmas feast served by the 1st TSC and 143d ESC’s senior leadership at Camp Arifjan’s Dining Facilities. The 143d ESC also hosted a barbecue lunch as well as various sporting activities such as volleyball and cornhole.

The Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art is located in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana, and houses an extensive collection of Native American art, as well as Western American paintings.
The big Christmas Market opened on the Town square this weekend. Ok, it doesn't compare to Munich (or even Heidelberg) but still, it was nice. There was a coziness and a familial feel to it. I liked it. Photographing it was another matter. There were a LOT of cameras and tripods about but good angles were tough to find and the crowds made it tougher. I need to find a way to get on top of one of the surrounding buildings... ;)
From the early 1950's through the mid-1970's the Deas (my mom's family) had a reunion on Christmas Day.
The reunion was held in Quanah, Texas.

Rose during Christmas dinner. She had a bunch of strawberries on her plate too, but she finished those really fast. They're her favourite!
We have two Christmas trees; this is the one that sits upstairs on the landing.

i spent most of the morning in my garden with this little robin. he is very tame and doesn't really mind hovering next to my hand and taking a bit of bread. he won't land on my hand though.
