My family celebrated Christmas in 1956 at my uncle's house in Archer City, Texas. The town may sound familiar - its the setting for the movie "The Last Picture Show."
My brother, sister and I pose in front of the Christmas tree. I'm in the middle.
Christmas carp is specially raised in manmade ponds and then sold from large tubs placed on the streets and town squares a few days before Christmas. You will not see this sight at any other time of the year. Some families keep their carp in the bathtub for several days as a temporary pet for their children...
Inside the Christmas Shop in Crieff Scotland. Visited on my way back from Buchanty. The Nutcracker Christmas Shop. Well worth a visit.
Cookies for a Christmas party for a concert promotion company. They didn't want traditional Christmas cookies. These were LOTS of fun after decorating dozens of trees and snowmen.
YAY! My Christmas holidays have started which means I have 3 weeks to spend at home with the dogs (and hopefully, to take lots of photos!). Barney's been skittering about in a state of sheer ecstasy since I arrived home yesterday evening... I feel like a celebrity, even if we've only been separated for a minute or two, he hurls himself at me like a crazed fan, and I have the bruises and scratches on my arm to prove it ( now that's not very angelic behaviour, is it?)!! He'll calm down in a day or two, when he's realised I'm here for a while :) Actually, as I write this he's just collapsed in a heap next to me, the excitement seems to have got to him!
I thought I'd try and start doing some Christmas shots today and Barney got VERY excited when he saw the camera and then the tinsel coming out!! Itc always amazes me how much he loves the camera, he plonked himself in front of me, with an expectant look and wagging tail, as soon as he saw me with it. He was was sitting up on his back legs when I took this, with tinsel all wrapped round him, hence the pleading, slightly urgent expression, he really wanted me to give him the biscuit I had in my hand, before he toppled over :) More Christmas shots to come...
I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend, and I'll catch up with contacts' photos as quickly as possible :)
Reached Explore #32 and FRONT PAGE!! Wow, thanks so much everyone, from me and Barney
For Christmas Eve,
May your gift wrapping supplies be plenty and your supermarket trips be short, and I hope that your day is filled with merry preparation for a wonderful holiday.
Not sure why but this year I am feeling extra Christmassy. These guys range from 5-7" in height but I may have to make a much bigger one for myself :3
A yarn wrapped wreath with felt flowers in red and green. Topped with a brown polka dot ribbon. So far my only Christmas decoration in the house!
"Christmas is a necessity. There has to be at least one day of the year to remind us that we're here for something else besides ourselves."

The last three in this Christmas interlude. This is a vase of pink tulips made more mysterious by this string of zingy pink lights.

A 90-foot Christmas tree arrived and being decorated with about 20,000 lights and red, silver and gold ornaments. It requires a 10-man crew approx. two weeks to decorate the giant beauty.
Fashion Island works closely with Victor's Strictly Custom Christmas Trees and the U.S. Forestry Service to find the perfect, towering tree. Victor's replants an average of 10 trees for every one tree harvested.
Fashion Island's Christmas tree is recycled into mulch after the holidays every year.
"Christmas is the spirit of giving without a thought of getting. It is happiness because we see joy in people. It is forgetting self and finding time for others. It is discarding the meaningless and stressing the true values."
"Noël c'est l'esprit de donner sans prétendre. C'est un instant de bonheur parce que nous voyons la joie chez les gens. C'est ne pas penser qu'à soit mais trouver du temps pour les autres. C'est un retour sur les vraies valeurs."

Our Christmas Tree. There are decorations that go on the tree year after year & some new ones each year.
I never fully appreciate the tree until I spend some time up close and take in the little hidden places between the branches.
