The Christmas / Bethlehem star great conjunction. I tried using a telephoto lens but with such a high ISO required to get the image without trails it was un-usable. I tried with my star tracker too but the weight of the lens was too much for the tracker. realizing i would need more than 400mm anyway to get the rings/moons i decided to just shoot wide. i could get a longer exposure and lower ISO this way.
This is a composite sort of, i did stack a day time image underneath and used a light masking to bring back more detail in the abandoned building.

Next to the Christmas Tree there is a sign saying it's with 40 metres the LARGEST CHRISTMAS TREE IN THE WORLD. It's gifted by the Kinnevik Group to Stockholm since 1996 and the classical Christmas Tree on Rockefeller Plaza in New York has served as the role model.

Christmas - an amazing day needs an amazing dress. This would have looked fantastic at the party, but there was no such party. It was still a lovely day, in a low-key, dressed-down kind of way.
Christmas trees....no photoshop. Long exposure and then zooming in slowly and back out again. You can see the outlines of the trees too on the left side.
Many years ago my niece of 6 years old painted a few Christmas ornaments of the tree..She and I painted them.My niece made this one. My tree is filled of ornaments which were given to me and special ornaments like this one that hold many memories..Every year I pull out all of the many memories and hang on the tree...Merry Christmas says it all I think ...
The light installations at Wollaton Park for Christmas at Wollaton are magical, accompanied by a subtle atmospheric soundtrack that hints at Christmas Carols, but never quite goes there. Definitely worth a visit.

This is a small (12/18cm) oil painting I made with my pallet knives.
Made it for Christmas because that year the 'theme' was music and instruments.
We get asked to photograph Artworks, to light them properly and evenly so that the colours are true, it is not evident.
Just a bit of fun, hope you like it.

And yet again ... that's 10 years in a row now. A full decade of annual appearances by this very little snowman at Christmas (he is only about 10 cm's tall). He has appeared on an Irish Christmas Calendar and is available for purchase from a Dutch card company. I donated his image to the Irish charity that made the request and I was promised payment by the Dutch company that requested use of the photo but I have yet to see a dime.

I am too lazy this year to set up anything to photograph that suits the holiday spirit so I will take the easy way out and bring forward a previous year's offering. In spite of my laziness, I sincerely wish everyone safe and happy holidays ... I hope the new year brings good things for all ... as Lord Alfred Tennyson said:
"Ring out the old, ring in the new, Ring, happy bells, across the snow: The year is going, let him go; Ring out the false, ring in the true."

I had great fun yesterday for an hour photographing Christmas miniatures - our home looks a wee bit like a Christmas gift shop as I write this ... no thanks to Rosa, the resident Christmas Elf!
This fellow is quite small but very photogenic I think and has made a special request to be viewed large on black - press L on your keyboard to make him happy. The background is some equally kitschy wrapping paper that refracts the light in glorious ways ... my best wishes to all of my Flickr friends for the holidays and may 2012 be a grand and great year for each of you!
My attention to Flickr will be sporadic over the holidays so please accept my apologies in advance if I miss some of your great photography during the next week or so ... I shall endeavour to catch up in the new year.
