Not identical ones though, as mine is a Sport with manual transmission and the other is a standard and automatic. Still worth me buying the latter for spares, and given that it's done 200k miles and has a gearbox fault which the owner says will probably put it off the road in winter that I hope is what will be happening later this year.
With a Ford Ka lifted off the roof it was a little easier to jack up and remove the wheels!
That dent has been in the rear bumper for several years now. No rot that I could see, but as I recall it'd done a lot of miles. The service book was still in the glovebox!
This lot arrived today, hopefully a big step in getting the estate back on the road. Pretty much everything I’m having to get sorted is due to it having stood for more than three years rather than accident damage (that was easily remedied when I fitted my spare tailgate last year).
There's a clutch kit, two front springs and brake discs and pads for the front and rear here. Doubtless other bits and bobs will be necessary, but I'm hoping this will be the bulk of it.
This was a lucky sighting, after I'd seen it glide by in traffic I then found it parked up round the corner. turned out to be someone living quite local and I had a good chat with him. He seems as keen as I am on them, having travelled up to Coventry to buy this lovely example. It wears its 151k miles well.
I left him my number, I'd love to know if ever it comes up for sale!
Went to view this on Saturday, but oddly I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. 128k miles, excellent history with evidence of things being replaced whenever necessary, but the bodywork wasn't as good as it could be with rust in the rear arches and slightly misaligned panels and overspray suggesting the odd knock earlier in its life.
Also, it didn't seem very fast - nothing like the later saloon I drove last year, and even my 2.2 felt much brisker (maybe I'm just used to that).
There's another one for sale on Autotrader, with lower mileage - might go and see that one unless the price drops dramatically on this (he's after £1200 at the moment).
Anyway, it gave me the excuse for a great drive in my Camry Sport!
Kyle Thomas Busch (born May 2, 1985,) is an American NASCAR driver and team owner. He currently drives the No. 18 Mars, Inc./Interstate Batteries Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing in the Sprint Cup Series and owns Kyle Busch Motorsports, which runs the #54 Monster Energy Toyota Camry for Kyle and his brother Kurt in the Nationwide Series and the #18 Dollar General Toyota Tundra for Jason Leffler in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
He currently holds the modern-era record for most race wins in a season across the top three NASCAR series with twenty-four wins, which he accomplished in 2010. On August 21, 2010, Busch became the first driver to win in all three of NASCAR's top three touring series in the same weekend (Bristol). Busch became the first driver in Nationwide series history to lead more than 10,000 laps. Busch also holds the record for the most NASCAR Nationwide Series wins with 51, surpassing Mark Martin's 49.
I was never going to drive past this one wothout stopping, was I?! It was outside a small bodywork place in a rural village, I wondered if it was for sale or a customer's car. Turned out it belonged to the owner, who used it as his sensible transport alongside a 1960 Cadillac. he was very enthusiastic about it, said it's definitely not for sale! He's only the second owner, and it came new from Bristo's Garage in nearby Ipswich. I still feel I should have left him my number though, just in case...
As ever, often the stuff in the car park at a show is as interesting as the exhibits.
Seen at Henham Wings & Wheels show 2008 (the camera date was wrong!).
Reregistered in 2006, it had a Holland sticker on the bootlid so most likely its owner lived there, it had a Spanish one as well.
I cheated slightly and showed the ‘after’ shot in part 1, as seeing this first-off might not mean much!
So, the train journey worked out perfectly and I’m in Gloucester at 10.10am. Friendly trader chap picks me up in the Camry, a good sign as it clearly drives and doesn’t look quite as bad as I’d feared.
After a bit of trundling round some ‘interesting’ parts of Gloucester and getting a tax disc, I set off on my way. He’d warned me the car needed jump starting as it hadn’t been used for a while, so not to turn the engine off until it’d charged up. Of course, as soon as I did it wouldn’t start! As I’d already thought that might happen (my last purchase did the same thing) I’d made sure I was parked outside a Motorworld...
Knowing about the damage I’d gone armed with gaffer tape, cable ties and even sticky-back plastic to ‘repair’ the sidelight. With a new battery fitted (using the toolkit that came with the car) it started fine, so I set-to in making the car safe enough for the journey home.
I cable tied in the lights and grille (which was loose in the back of the car, surprisingly not broken), replaced a couple of bulbs and stuck gaffer tape over as many edges as possible. High quality repairs eh? Then off I set back to Norfolk...
DVLA says imported here only this year. They list the engine as 2.4-litre, we got a 2.2 as the small unit (as well as the higher-spec V6).
I have seen so many of these lately that it's about time to start photographing them. I find them pretty easy on the eyes compared to the next generations. I think I've become fond of them a little bit.
This one has some interesting characteristics. Such as the dent in the driver door. The black reflective plate between the taillights. Usually I see them have either the same colour as the body paint or the same colour as the taillamps.
I will try to get some shots of the usually spotted Camry's. I think Spottedlaurel will like this.
