Quick photoshoot on part of one of my favourite ex-WWII airfields. Funny to think that 65+ years ago a plane may have stood here and Jeeps and other vehicles would have been nipping around on the perimeter track that’s now a public road.

Almost matching Toyota Camrys. One looked a little plusher and had the gold trim package.

My car in Australia, 1996 Toyota Camry Wagon, 2.2 litre automatic, 260 000 yet and much more to go! Yep it's pretty much the same as my Carina back in Holland!

MODEL NAME: Toyota Camry

GENERATION: III

YEAR: ?

LICENSE PLATE: (HI) MAF 666

OWNER: ?

OTHER INFO: Optional OEM Spoiler.

As close to new condition as likely to be seen nowadays. How did such a useable car only do 11k miles? Extraordinary.

As an earlier model it has the washer fluid bottle mounted in the engine bay, whereas on later ones it's out of sight below the inner wing (presumably to increase capacity?).

TEC National Show, Billing August 2012.

Seen before on here, but having made contact with the 79yr-old owner I went to view it as he’s likely to be selling it soon. Inevitably it has a few old man scrapes and dinks and I’m not sure it’s tidy enough to be a viable long-term keeper, but the attraction for me is that it would eventually yield many spares for my similar coloured Sport (I need a better driver’s door, for example). Also making it an interesting proposition is the fact that the V6 engine is worth a reasonable bit as a donor for an MR2 Mk2 conversion. However I’d rather keep it complete for as long as possible, or at least until the MoT runs out, but at least that’s an option if I need to make a bit of money out of it.

He let me have a drive in it, my first go in a V6 Camry. Wow, it’s quick! Wet roads and poor tyres made me a little cautious, but the way it picks up and the noise it makes is really rather impressive.

My offer and the price the owner was hoping for are a little way apart at the moment, but he was very realistic and kept telling me that I would end up with it somehow. I think he needs a bit of time to find a smaller automatic car that he can get in and out of easily and I’m not desperate for it right now. Both he and his daughter were really friendly, I was pleased to meet them and dealing with people like them makes me remember why I prefer messing around with older cars and not having to face slick-suited new-car salesmen.

Having previously owned a Camry 2.2 estate for several years, which had done nearly 200,000 miles by the time I sold it, I’m a great fan of these. Comfy, big car feel to them and surprisingly brisk even with the 2.2 4-cyl engine yet reasonably economical. Shame that parts are starting to get difficult to obtain here for them, so I’m looking to get a later ’96-on Camry as my next daily.

Update 2016: Taxed and MoTed into 2017. MoT check website says it had done 154k when last tested in Feb 2016.

After 13 years of absence Toyota reintroduced the Camry in Europe in 2019. In most countries sales were quite low. In the Netherlands some 300 Camrys have been registered. In 2023 Toyota stopped sales of the model here.

Sixth generation Toyota Camry by Welly and included in a four vehicle set once produced for the now defunct Premier Portfolio and showing up at various UK Home Bargains stores VERY cheaply! Mint and boxed.

Toyota Camry Solara

Prescott, Arizona

2018

For the second time this year my Camry's been hit by another car! The first time was in the door (and I wasn't even in the car), last night was somewhat harder when I stopped for someone waiting to turn right in front of me, but unfortunately the Audi behind didn't...

The tailgate has taken some damage, but no broken lights, the bumper is scuffed and cracked at the bottom, and I suspect the towbar is a bit bent. Superficially the latter probably saved me from worse damage, unless it's ended up damaging the floor.

It's certainly driveable, I need to get it checked though. The hassle now is getting suitably recompensed whilst being able to keep the car. It probably doesn't have much financial value, but find me a half-decent 7-seat estate car with towbar, circa 100k miles, 30mpg+ economy and one previous owner for sensible money...

Place: Pingtung, Taiwan

The Corolla, Corona and Camry were probably the bestselling passenger cars (today the Corolla is still the clear leader, followed by the Vios).

Not one I've seen around before.

Long lens shot taken by one of my friends on the twisty section near the pits. Not entirely sure this is what Toyota had in mind when they designed this car, but it works for me!

Camry Gathering on Jul 2009 @ Kallang Stadium

Registration reverted to its original J929PEW just before it was sold to me in May 2011.

Seeing the flat tyres got my hopes up, suspecting that it doesn’t see much use and so might be for sale. Negotiations are underway...

Covid continues to disrupt our lives with no reasonable end in sight and has really begun to make its presence felt in the travel industry. Premier Portfolio, an aviation themed gift company, threw in the towel late last year and now liquidated stock of their diecasts are appearing at Home Bargains recently. This Welly Toyota Camry is now astonishingly cheap despite its astonishingly high levels of detailing and accuracy. Mint and boxed.

The beginning of a rather busy day. These numbered shots should make some kind of log.

As its lovely engine had already been removed for use in an MR2 and some panels had been sold to help keep another one on the road, there was little point keeping this forever. Spent a couple of evenings removing the panels and any other bits I might need.

It would have been good to keep the suspension struts and maybe even cut the good rear wheel arches off it, but I had a limited amount of time and have to be realistic about what bits I might ever use/need.

A shot of it below when it was with its previous owner on a different registration. It then reverted to J929PEW when I bought it in 2011.

A shame to see it go, but I gave it a good stay of execution including a couple of trackday sessions at RAF Marham, and bits of it are still around helping others.

This spot is pretty much exactly where I saw the hyper-rare 3dr Nissan Bluebird some years ago.
