What a difference crossing the tracks make. On one side, the chaotic and bustling Mumbai, filled with a mix of stores and street side sellers. As soon as you take the pedestrian bridge over the train tracks at Mahim Station, this is the view that greets you.
It's still chaotic and filled with activity, but there's a real sense of poverty here. Buildings are in disrepair, and sanitation has dropped off a cliff in comparison to the other side of the tracks. The struggle to climb out of poverty looks 100x more challenging here than elsewhere.

Lying in an inaccessible gravel pit are three well preserved examples of obsolete technology from the 1920s. They are acoustic mirrors designed to pick up the sound of approaching aircraft before they were visible. They were never taken into use because of the development of radar prior to World War 2.
The Palazzo Pretorio used to be the Bishop's residence until the 1250s. Together with the Torre Civica and the imposing structure of the Cathedral of San Vigilio, the church is one of the main features of the striking Piazza Duomo in Trento. Erected in 1220 by the Prince-Bishop Federico Vanga, the palace used to be the seat not only of the Bishops of Trento, but also of the Municipality, the Podestà and the Courts as well. Its main body was built on the remains of two churches: San Giovanni Battista and San Biagio. Decorated with Ghibelline embattlements, the façade features two rows of three mullioned windows on the first floor and mullioned windows on the second floor. Recent refurbishing works have given the fortified palace back its Romanesque, 13th century looks. Today, Palazzo Pretorio houses the prestigious Museo Diocesano Tridentino, which commemorates its famous Council.
The Monastery of the Dormition is one of the oldest in Crimea and is situated in the most beautiful corner of the peninsula - in the heart of the Mariam-Dere gorge framed with cliffs that rise high into the sky.
The exact date of the cloister's appearance in these lands is unknown. Historians incline to the version, according to which, the monastery was founded in the late 8th - early 9th century by Greek monks, who fled to Crimea from Byzantine.
By the early 15th century the cloister numbered several tens of caves already, and a tiny chapel, two houses for pilgrims and several fountains with - as monks believed - healing water were built near the caves.

During the days of Mobutu Sese Seko's Zaire, the university was a status symbol in what is now the Eastern Congo. Two wars and numerous rebel conflicts later, the university is no longer what it once was. Windows are cracked or knocked out entirely, the electricity has stopped working years ago, and a functioning toilet is no where in sight.

Construction on this impressive structure started in 1846 and took two years to complete. This monumental structure is a legacy and symbol of the Victorian age. The viaduct's statistics are awe inspiring - it is 1,066 feet long and boasts 32 arches of 30 feet span. The seven million bricks used in the construction of the viaduct were made from clay excavated from the nearby village of Bures. The viaduct crosses the Colne Valley at a maximum height of 75 feet.
It is the second largest brick built structure in England after the Battersea Power Station.
Peter Bruff, the engineer for the Stour Valley Railway, picked brick rather than the original choice of laminated timber, partly because it was cheaper.
