This Hungarian stilt village is built in a lake that never freezes over due to the power plant that that uses it as a cooling pond.
The neighboring towns of Bokod and Oroszlány, have more than two linear miles of cabins and cottages suspended on stilts over Lake Bokodi. The little houses are mostly used by locals in the summer months, but they also cater to year-round anglers who take advantage of one weird fact about the lake — despite the frigid Hungarian winters, it rarely freezes over.

It was January, it had rained, it was quite chilly and the St. Mark's Square in Venice was almost deserted. This historic square is usually imagined differently. But we practically had it all to ourselves. It was a great atmosphere to be able to enjoy it in a way that the hordes of tourists can hardly ever do in summer.

The land upon which the castle is constructed was purchased by the oil industrialist P. L. Steingel (nephew of the famous Russian railroad builder Baron Rudolf Steingel, a German nobleman who had made a fortune extracting oil in Baku. Baron von Steingel adored the Gothic architectural style, so he ordered the prominent Russian architect Leonid Sherwood to use the Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany as an example for the new construction, but to make the building even more fairytale-like.
The available land only measured 20 x 10 meters, so the castle was built up high with turrets, spires and open battlements. Inside the main tower, there were 2 tiny bedrooms. The living room, with a large fireplace and stairs, were brought closer to the “shore” for security reasons. Sherwood made a beautiful toy “copy” of the Gothic Rhine castles but did not take into account that large grottoes were located under the cliff. Behind the balconies, at the edge of the cliff, there was originally a garden, but in 1927 an earthquake occurred, and the rock upon which the castle stood broke: the garden fell into the sea, and one main tower was almost completely destroyed.
The next large-scale reconstruction took place in the 1960s. Originally it was proposed that the castle be dismantled brick by brick and moved “to the mainland”, however, this idea was abandoned. The Soviet architect Tatiev was responsible for the eventual reconstruction and the Swallow’s Nest was “rebuilt” with the entire castle being dismantled with each brick numbered and then reassembled on an earthquake-resistant slab placed on top of the rock.

Размер постройки совсем не велик: ширина 10 метров, длина 20 метров, а высота 12 метров. Столь величественным здание делает, безусловно, его местоположение, ведь высота скалы, на которой оно расположено, — более 40 метров. Внутри дома разместились прихожая, гостиная с большими окнами, лестница, ведущая на башню, и две спальни.
Барон В. Штейнгель продал дом в 1914 году и уехал из России. Новый хозяин открыл в «Ласточкином гнезде» ресторан, который успешно работал.
Угроза над постройкой нависла во время землетрясения 1927 года, когда обрушилась часть скалы. К счастью, здание устояло, но была частично разрушена башня и пострадала смотровая площадка. There was a church here already in very ancient times; on the left side there were also a little church dedicated to St. Paul and a small temple dedicated to St. Mary, which was decked with Giotto's school frescoes. During XV century they tore it down and built the present Chapel of Crowned Blessed Virgin Mary, between St. Paul and St. Peter churches. Today the building has a Gothic right side and a neoclassical façade by Nicolò Baschiera (1755), while the interior was designed by Giulio Romano and is decked with sculptures and paintings by Andreasino, Teodoro Ghisi, Gerolamo Mazzola Bedoli, Domenico Fetti, Giambettino Cignaroli, Domenico Brusasorci, Giuseppe Bazzani and Felice Campi.

The Stauropegic Resurrection New Jerusalem Monastery is one of the most famous monasteries in the Moscow Region. It is a unique and sacred place, marvellous in its design, having been crafted by architects from several epochs. It reproduces the layout of key religious sites in Ierusalem – the Resurrection Cathedral is the counterpart of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre with its side chapels and the underground Sts Constantine and Helena Church is the counterpart of the cavernous Palestinian church. The natural landscape around the monastery bears Biblical names: Mounts (or, rather, hills) Tabor, Hermon, Sinai, Mount of Olives, the Jordan river (Istra), and the Garden of Gethsemane.
Известен и под другим названием – Воскресенский Новоиерусалимский монастырь. Мужская православная обитель была основана в 1656 г. рядом с городом Истра в Подмосковье. Своим появлением она обязана патриарху Никону, пожелавшему разбить в этом месте резиденцию патриархов. Сам Никон многократно останавливался здесь на ночлег, ведь ему часто приходилось посещать Иверский монастырь (ездил он по старой Волоколамской дороге). Строительством нового монастыря патриарх желал добиться обустройства центра православного мира на московской земле. При этом планировалось, что грандиозное сооружение станет топографически передавать храм Гроба Господня, расположенный в Иерусалиме. Закладка монастыря производилась на холме с палестинским названием Сион. С восточной стороны к обители прилегал Елеонский холм, ее северным «соседом» был холм Фавор, а местная река Истра получила новое название – Иордан.
Es la iglesia parroquial y el eje sobre el que gira casi toda la historia de Wamba. La cabecera es de época mozárabe o más propiamente visigoda y tiene semejanzas con Santa María de Lebeña (Cantabria). El resto de la iglesia es de estilo románico.
