During the British mandate, the Jewish people began planning ways to make machinery and guns to fight for independence. While manufacturing guns didn’t prove to be that difficult, it was very challenging to make bullets for the guns.

So, a group of Jewish people decided to build a ammunitions factory under a kibbutz, which is a communal area of land designed for a specific purpose, such as farming. The area was near a British base. In 1945, the group built structures on the surface that resembled a kibbutz and in about three weeks, they built an entire ammunitions factory eight meters underground. The factory stopped operating in 1948, three years after being built. In 1987, the factory was restored and turned into a museum that is now open to the public.

The roar of Big Boy's whistle cuts through the crowd that has gathered on the Warrensburg Depot platform; an 1889-built structure dating back to when sights and sounds like this could be expirienced everyday. Although this line between Jefferson City and Kansas City was originally part of the Missouri Pacific system, the welcomed prescence of steam in Warrensburg returned for just a moment before once again falling still.

UP 4014 was originally built in November 1941 at ALCO's Schenectady Works in New York, and was 1 of 25 "Big Boy" 4-8-8-4 articulated steam locomotives built for the Union Pacific (first order (4884-1 class) numbered UP 4000-4019 being built in 1941 and second order (4884-2 class) numbered UP 4020-4024 being built in 1944). While the class was originally to be named Wasatch, the name Big Boy was ultimately chosen from the chalked words scrawled on UP 4000's firebox door among completion at Schenectady Works. These massive locomotives at the time were the largest steam locomotives built for the Union Pacific, stretching 85 feet (132 feet including the tender) and equipped with 8 68-inch drivers. Originally, the Big Boys were assigned to haul large freight trains across the mountains between Odgen and Green River, but would eventually find themselves as far as Cheyenne, North Platte and Denver in later years. UP 4014 ran it's last revenue freight train on July 20, 1959 between Laramie and Cheyenne, with the final revenue Big Boy run concluding just a few hours later. UP 4014 is 1 of 8 Big Boys to survive, and was donated to the Railway and Locomotive Historical Society of Pamona, California in 1961. In 2013, Union Pacific reaquired UP 4014, and in 2019 fired it up for the first time in 60 years.

And now, the date is exactly 67 years and 1 day since UP 4014 made it's final revenue run in Wyoming, and we find ourselves witnessing this Big Boy leading the Coast-to-Coast Tour Special for America's Semiquincentennial. Today, UP 4014 is leading UP PJCKC between Jefferson City and Kansas City with UP 1776, an EMD SD70M, acting as the diesel "helper" for this move. Along with that, UP 4014 is currently wearing UP 844's original Hancock Longbell 3-chime whistle and has also received some cosmetic treatment for the special move that has travelled around both Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern territory.

Swept Away – Bodie Island Lighthouse

I was looking forward to meeting up with two of my friends, Rick Dunnuck and Frankie Leyro to shoot sunrise at Great Falls. When we arrived at the gate at 6 AM thinking, ‘oh, just in time, they’re opening gates.’ That was not the case at all, we were in shock by the park ranger who said in the sternest of voice, ‘the park doesn’t open till 7 and you need to leave.’ No explanation of why was coming out of this guy. So we sat in the car wondering what to do next and we were all furiously trying to connect to the website to see if that was really true. The ranger comes back, knock on our window and tell us we can’t stay in front of the gate, then proceeded to tell us go somewhere else to have our coffee.

Three of Frankie’s friend pulled up unannounced and you know what happen next, all of us were out of our car, on the road talking. I knew it was only a matter of time before the super rude ranger comes back and have us all arrested. And he did but this time he was a little less raging and actually tried to explain himself. I don’t know what change him; maybe it was because he was now in front of six people with four cars in front of the gate. We politely nodded in agreement and proceeded to leave. I left with a bad experience, no sunrise shots and didn’t even touch my camera. The only thing that saved this morning was having breakfast in front of a fireplace at Katie’s (by the way, great place to have breakfast in Great Falls, VA).

So the first thought in my mind was I’m going to do sunset where nobody can stop me. My first thought was Bodie Island Lighthouse, 4.5-hour drive to the Outbanks of NC. I can do it, leave at 10 AM and be there for sunset. That is exactly what I did and ended up being more than I could imagine. I was totally Swept Away! One of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever witness! And not a soul was a around for this beauty…only me standing in the marsh and the sounds of quacking ducks into the night. Then came the wonderful drive home and the bad experience I had that morning was totally past.

St. Bernard de Clairvaux Church is a medieval Spanish monastery cloister which was built in the town of Sacramenia in Segovia, Spain, in the 12th century but dismantled in the 20th century and shipped to New York City in the United States. It was eventually reassembled at 16711 West Dixie Highway, North Miami Beach, Florida, where it is now an Episcopal church and tourist attraction called Ancient Spanish Monastery. It is the oldest European-built structure in the Western Hemisphere.

En la dársena del canal castilla, a su paso por Medina de Rioseco, aún se conservan los antiguos almacenes, la casa del encargado del muelle con un reloj de sol en su fachada, los restos de una antigua barcaza y la fábrica de harinas «San Antonio».

The Church of the Holy Archangel Michael over the village of Oreanda was built in 2006 at the foot of Mount Ai-Nikola. As archaeological excavations indicate, an ancient Christian monastery used to be located on this site. The temple was built by the famous Yalta architect Vyacheslav Bondarenko and is surrounded by mountains. When broadcasting the singing of the male church choir, voices repeatedly reflected from the rocks create an unusual acoustic effect. Such a monumental sound can only be achieved in special concert halls.

Wisconsin's roads along miles and miles of magnificent scenery through deep woods, broad vistas from high ridges and rock bluffs over deep clear brooks. unique and popular site is Hyde's Mill, built by Ted Sawle, Sr. at the original site of the 1850 dam on Mill Creek. Untouched by the glaciers the country lies in the unglaciated "driftless" area where rolling hills and rugged stone bluffs stand proud giving shape to a landscape of wooded hills, ravines and the cultivated mosaic of farm fields. Hyde's Mill, One of the few mills left which is powered by a wooden waterwheel. Dam and millpond are surrounded by lush woodlands and prairie openings, serenaded by birdcalls and gentle waterfalls. The Hyde's Mill area is one of the region's most tranquil and beautiful in Wisconsin.

The land upon which the castle is constructed was purchased by the oil industrialist P. L. Steingel (nephew of the famous Russian railroad builder Baron Rudolf Steingel, a German nobleman who had made a fortune extracting oil in Baku. Baron von Steingel adored the Gothic architectural style, so he ordered the prominent Russian architect Leonid Sherwood to use the Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany as an example for the new construction, but to make the building even more fairytale-like.

The available land only measured 20 x 10 meters, so the castle was built up high with turrets, spires and open battlements. Inside the main tower, there were 2 tiny bedrooms. The living room, with a large fireplace and stairs, were brought closer to the “shore” for security reasons. Sherwood made a beautiful toy “copy” of the Gothic Rhine castles but did not take into account that large grottoes were located under the cliff. Behind the balconies, at the edge of the cliff, there was originally a garden, but in 1927 an earthquake occurred, and the rock upon which the castle stood broke: the garden fell into the sea, and one main tower was almost completely destroyed.

The next large-scale reconstruction took place in the 1960s. Originally it was proposed that the castle be dismantled brick by brick and moved “to the mainland”, however, this idea was abandoned. The Soviet architect Tatiev was responsible for the eventual reconstruction and the Swallow’s Nest was “rebuilt” with the entire castle being dismantled with each brick numbered and then reassembled on an earthquake-resistant slab placed on top of the rock.

In 1892, on a picturesque climbing cliff - a red rock - at an altitude of 400 m above sea level, the foros church was laid. A church was built on the means of owner of the estate of the form, "Tea King" A.G. Kuznetsov in memory of "wonderful" events on October 17, 1888 at the Kursko-Kharkov Bil Station railwayWhen, during the crash, the royal family remained unharmed.

The place for the construction was chosen the most picturesque: the church was built on the red color of a sheer cliff, ripped away from the main array, surrounded by the greens of the forests. She seems to soar between heaven and earth.

The project developed an architect N.M. Chagin. The church was built in the Byzantine temple style, which is distinguished by a special technique of masonry from wide flat brick-dlinges and using numerous domes by type of Russian wooden temples. With her silhouette church reminds Moscow Churches of the late XVIII century.

Ragusa (Italian: [raˈɡuːza] Sicilian: Rausa; Latin: Ragusia) is a city and comune in southern Italy.

In the middle of Lyon, we both waited, the streetcar driver in the streetcar opposite until the time was ready to continue her journey to the next stop. And I waited at "my" stop until a streetcar driver stops his vehicle and takes me to my next stop.

As it looks, we both spent the time with cell phone in hand. What she read I do not know, I took pictures with mine :-)

The 16th-century Dai Halima Mosque contains the mausoleum of a royal midwife named Halima, with elegant jali screens. The monument is off the beaten track and is one of the most soothing locations in Ahmedabad. Persian and Sanskrit inscriptions on the walls tell the legend of the memorial. It is said that Dhai Harir (also known as Bai Harir Sultani), a household lady of Mahmud Begada, commissioned this stepwell. She built a mosque alongside a small tomb, in which she was buried.
