On the north end of Lickman Road in Chillwack stand a well built structure that goes back a number of years.

Since leaving the Midwest last year, I’ve been meaning to photograph the Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge in downtown San Diego. The bridge connects the convention center with Petco Park (home to San Diego’s Major League Baseball team the Padres). At 550 feet, the bridge is one of the longest self-anchored pedestrian suspension bridges in the world and is supposed to look like a sail to fit in with San Diego's nautical history.

I took this photograph from the top floor of a parking garage. I like this view since it not only includes the new Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge, but also Petco Park, the new Central Library and the East Village District, which is San Diego's largest and most rapidly developing neighborhood.

One of the less visited temples of the Angkor Wat complex is Beng Mealea, which is about an hour drive from Siem Reap. Located in an overgrown jungle, it sits in arrested decay as it has for over 900 years.

Beng Mealea was a welcomed relief from the main Angkor Wat temple complex which is besieged with large crowds. The entire time I was there it was just myself, my guide and a couple of local boys playing around (what a great “backyard” to be playing in).

I saw these boys playing around and as I approached them to make a photograph, I gestured to them to sit on this small tree branch for better lighting. We were after all in a jungle where dappled light comes through the tree-tops.

Their infectious smiles made this one my favorite photographs from Southeast Asia.

Cambodia is truly the land of smiles!

Multi-apartment residential building, built in 1937, Stalinist Empire. If you look from the embankment, you get the impression that this is an ordinary Stalinka. But if you go deeper, you will see an unusual high portico-passage, above which, it seems, there is an apartment with arched windows. Built in 1937 .

With its construction beginning in 1881, it was being built for prince Semyon Vorontsov based on the blueprints of a talented architect Etienne Bouchard. Bouchard had planned an original building in the style of French castles at the time of Louis XIII. The palace was even called a ‘Little Versailles.’ The construction was stopped, however, only a year in because of the prince’s death.

Construction resumed only in 1889, when the family of Russian emperor Alexander III purchased the building. Architect Maximilian Mesmaher maintained the size and general style of the building, but he substantially changed its look with new decorations; in effect, he transformed a knight’s castle into a wonderful palace.

In Soviet times, the castle was turned into a sanatorium called ‘Proletarian Health,’ used by those who were seriously ill with tuberculosis. In post-WWII years, it became officials’ summer residence: Stalin, Khrushchev, and Brezhnev all stayed here. Only in 1992, a museum dedicated to Alexander III was created on the first two floors. In its collection there are many unique items: chandeliers, a fireplace of brown marble, mahogany furniture, mirrors, and more.
