I went to a wonderful Christmas Fair this afternoon, and bought some black cheddar! The inside is black as well as the waxy surface. Apparently the cheddar is infused with charcoal. I'm buying it as a present, so regrettably can't cut it to show you.... Ah ha! All is not lost! I have found a pic from the cheese maker's website.....
Later Add. I went to see the friend I gave this too,and she gave me a slice of the cheese. It had a slightly unusual taste - a slight edge to it - but mostly it tasted like regular cheddar cheese.....
I believe the to be an immature female.. 'Azure Damselfly'.. 'Coenagrion puella'.... in mint condition.. with a striking form.. View On Black

Black-footed Albatross (Phoebastria nigripes) is one of few albatrosses with all dark plumage, although it is named only for the colour of its feet. All plumages are dark, but adults acquire white around the bill base and they breed, every two years, once they are seven years old. They are also unusual in being one of just three (Pacific) Northern Hemisphere breeding albatrosses with 97% of the global population breeding in Hawaii. The Atlantic doesn't have any Northern Hemisphere breeding albatrosses though occasional "lost" individuals stray here, like the famous Bempton Black-browed Albatross. Like many albatross species Black-footed has suffered heavy losses and it is classified by IUCN as near-threatened. Its scientific name Phoebastria is named after an Ancient Greek prophetess or soothsayer, while nigripes means black-footed. About 400 pairs breed on Guadalupe Island in Mexico and I photographed this adult about 200km from there, off the coast of Baja. But they weren't common. The wingspan is typically 6 to 7 feet (190-220cm) and you can see its wingtip almost skimming the surface.
are still munching on parsley in an enclosure that I have outside... I think there are 9-10 cats on the plant... they are great at hiding!!
These will be added to my 43 that are already in chrysalis and are kept outdoors...
these chrysalis will all winter over and will eclose whenever they are ready in the spring... some swallowtail chrysalis, so I've heard, can stay dormant for over a year!!! Not at all like Monarchs that have a schedule to keep... swallowtails do what they want, when they want!!!
This is my first year raising them and I had a great season... releasing over 200 of these beautiful butterflies!!
This is an adult Great Black Hawk (Buteogallus urubitinga) a few seconds before it snatched a fish from the water. Its bizarre scientific name urubitinga is a native Brazilian (Tupi) word for this bird. It is found in wooded and watery habitats throughout Central and South America. I photographed this individual in Brazil's Pantanal region.
Black Tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa) is a winter visitor to Sri Lanka. An adult. Belongs to Scolopacidae family. Clicked at Kumana National Park, sri Lanka.

Becka and I ventured out for an early morning session at Black's Beach, the notorious nudie beach in San Diego.
The Adobe Creative Jam in San Diego I participated in last Thursday had me feeling a little nostalgic for the "just go shoot" days. I let the inspiration come to me this day, without trying to force myself to shoot anything specific. It's a very refreshing state of mind.
There's a reason people venture down the cliffs to get here and trust me, it's definitely not just for FTN. (Though we did get approached by the self-proclaimed naked "ambassador" of the beach who tried to give me some lighting tips...)
I post my favorites to Flickr, but I'm also posting daily on Instagram and Facebook if you want to follow along:
The Black Fashion Fair is coming...
Belleza has some amazing Claudia makeups coming to it & I'm wearing Blacklace newness for the event as well. <3
"...This twisted cat and mouse game always starts the same
First we're both down to play then somehow you go astray
We went from nothing to something, liking to loving
It was us against the world and now we just fucking
It's like I loved you so much and now I just hate you
Feeling stupid for all the time that I gave you
I wanted all or nothing for us ain't no place in between
Might, might be me believing what you say that you never mean
Like it'll last forever but now forever ain't as long
If it wasn't for you I wouldn't be stuck singing this song
You were different from my last but now you got it mirrored
And as it all plays out I see it couldn't be clearer
Now sing
You used to be thirsty for me
But now you wanna be set free
This is the web, web that you weave
So baby now rest in peace...
I'm gonna love ya
Until you hate me
And I'm gonna show ya
What's really crazy
You should've known better
Than to mess with me, honey
I'm gonna love ya, I'm gonna love ya
Gonna love ya, gonna love ya
Like a black widow, baby"

The most characteristic feature of the Black Swallowtail is the big black pupils inside the orange eye-spots on the center of the hind wing. On the dorsal view the eye-spots appear to have two eyebrows!
If you get confused trying to tell the black butterflies apart, I have a set of photos of black butterflies from my area. It is called Black Butterflies of the Carolinas and a link is in the album section below.
" Black earth red earth,
you come from the sea,
from the arid green,
where there are ancient
words and bloody toil
and geranium among rocks—
you don't know how much you bring
of toil and words from the sea,
you're rich like a memory,
like the barren countryside,
you hard and sweetest word,
ancient because of the blood
gathered in the eyes;
young, like a fruit
that is a memory and a season—
your breath rests
under the sky of August,
the olives of your look
sweeten the sea,
and you live and live again
without amazement, certain
like the earth, dark
like the earth, a grinder
of seasons and dreams
that reveals itself under the moon
to be so old, just like
the hands of your mother,
the bowl of the brazier. "
- Cesare Pavese
