This all black squirrel has been living in our back yard for a month or so. The rest of our squirrels are grey and white, but we have always had one black one in our neighborhood off and on for the past 30 years.
The black sheep is the result of a unique genetic trait. In domesticated sheep, the white color is dominant, as it allowed breeders to dye the wool more easily. However, the recessive gene for the black color is sometimes passed down silently over several generations. When a lamb inherits two copies of this gene (one from each parent), it is born with a black fleece instead of the usual white.
This is a rare yet natural phenomenon that, in the past, could have been perceived as an anomaly or even a bad omen in certain cultures. Today, it is viewed as a charming curiosity and a symbol of individuality.
(Crotalus molossus) While driving on a dirt road with the windows down I thought I heard a rattle out of the window. We backed the car up to where I heard it and found this nice big Black-tailed Rattlesnake just off the road.
The one I love
Is standing near
The one I love
Is everywhere
I can woo you
I can amuse you
But there is nothing I can do to make you mine
Black cloud, black cloud
The one I love
Roosts in the mind
Can snap this spell
Or increase hell
I can chase you
And I can catch you
But there is nothing I can do to make you mine
Black cloud, black cloud
Oh, black cloud
Oh, black cloud
I play the game
Of Favorites now
I can I must
I will I do
I can please you
Or I can freeze you out
But there is nothing I can do to make you mine
Black cloud, black cloud, black cloud
I can choke myself to please you
And I can sink much lower than usual
But there's nothing I can do
To make you mine

This one had been raiding the litter bins at the University. Always adaptive, highly intelligent as all corvids are they seem quite content to live off our litter
I know, I took a sunset and made it BW. It's cliche to begin with. But I like the tree. And I was in one of those moods. Which is why I chose the cheesy lounge version of Black Hole Sun. Cheese happens.
This shot was taken in the rain, I was thrilled when the whole family of Black Swans came out of the water and walking towards me as I sheltered from the rain. They seemed happy enough, while for me it felt like Christmas. A fifth cygnet is out of frame.
Three shot panorama of Sunset Lake in Black Sand Basin. I did not have a tripod or the right lens with me to properly do this, so I hope to do better the fall.

Or so I call it. It sits below Avila Beach Drive and every year those birds attempt a nest there but with no success in recent years. A tiny black dot is visible on the rock, a nesting black oystercatcher. Avila Beach, CA, USA

Limosa limosa Islandica
Classified as near threatened worldwide. However numbers are vastly increasing in Iceland. They migrate in winter, mainly to Britain. In Europe, black-tailed godwits are only hunted in France, with the annual total killed estimated at 6,000 to 8,000 birds.
While visiting northern New Mexico, I'm often drawn to Black Mesa. It's very photogenic, but, since it's located on the San Ildefonso Pueblo, and they limit photos on the Pueblo, you're limited to shooting the mesa from a distance on a public road. On my recent trip, I was lucky to catch a moonrise over the mesa (yes, those are stars along the top of the image.).
