The black swan (Cygnus atratus) is a large waterbird, a species of swan which breeds mainly in the southeast and southwest regions of Australia. A New Zealand subspecies was apparently hunted to extinction by Māori, but the species was reintroduced to New Zealand in the 1860s

This beauty was in our yard a few days ago, laying underneath our apple tree. My husband wasn't amused. Lol Hunting season ended a couple of days before that. I'm glad he is still able to visit even though I'm pretty sure he's the one that thrashed one of our shrubs.

This is actually a miniature rose floating on a clear plastic pitcher filled with water. It was originally in color but I think the BW treatment added more depth and character to it.

Archilochus alexandri shot handheld from the upper deck of my home. The purple iridescence at his throat is clearly shown. It distinguishes him from the ruby-throat. Both birds appear to have a black collar unless the light is at the right angle.

not easy to spot in the high grass when they're down on their legs but this one was curious checking us out and stood up...thank you bear...not all bears are that cooperative ;-)

I was very happy to come across this outrageous Woodcreeper on a couple of occasions - just an amazing bird!

I captured this Black-necked Stilt at The Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch in Gilbert, Arizona.
