2O22, the 1614 Skegness - Nottingham, is seen approaching Heckington, home of the most impressive of the ten windmills in shot. The train itself occupies about two pixels in the distance, the rest of the scene is the star of the show. The windmill is the only eight sail functioning mill in the UK; it was originally 5 sails but the gear was replaced in 1891. When I say functioning, apparently in a storm a few years ago the sails rotated in the wrong direction, presumably breaking gears and/or drive shafts, so it is temporarily out of action. I guess windmills were highly stressed structures and always prone to damage - modern ones aren't immune either. After a day of cancelled trains, generally hanging around and variable weather, this made the waiting worthwhile.

After a great hike up the valley Helgedalen we were approaching one of the glaciers in Hurrungane - the most alpine of the Norwegian mountain areas.
Approaching Naxos by ferry is a thrilling experience that stirs a sense of adventure and wonder. As the island gradually emerges on the horizon, there's a palpable excitement in the air. The anticipation builds with each passing wave. Passengers traveling to further islands gather on the ferry's deck to capture the views and take selfies.

There is growing concern (since 2010) that the volcano on Ischia could erupt in the near future. It is considered more likely for Ischia than for its more famous Italian counterpart, Vesuvius.
This was the second of three shots I took during sunset at Lone Rock Beach. I chose this spot specifically with the plan to shoot in vertical format, because I liked how the lines in the sand and curve of the beach gave the feeling of leading to Lone Rock. This image was taken a short time before my first post from this shoot, just before the sun had set and the sky was close to peak color.
A very early morning start with the promise of mist in the forecast. I arrived at Bolehill Quarry and was greated instead by driving rain. Not the best conditions and the first outing for the rain cover I'd bought for my camera. I'm glad I had it as without it I'd have been turning around and going home with nothing.
2335 approaches Blackwater working the twice weekly container service to Rockhampton from Longreach as 6391.
Once a month, this service extends onto Winton, as well as regularly stopping off at Barcaldine and Alpha to drop loading. This train operates loaded from Rockhampton to deliver supplies to various towns.

CN 2801 leads Q120, as they approach the New Brunswick/Nova Scotia border. Lighting is good for this shot, but I kinda wish it was an hour or so earlier. Oh well.

A Lehigh Railway turn from Sayre, PA approaches the town of Ulster. The tracks briefly veer away from the Susquehanna River as they near the town. A farmer's field provides a break from the seemingly endless row of trees that obscures the right of way, particularly along the river. This railroad does run through some very scenic territory.

I took the airport shuttle train when transferring at London Heathrow Airport. Perfect for a motion blur shot.
I processed a balanced and a paintery HDR photo from a RAW exposure, merged the selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I appreciate and welcome constructive feedback.

On a foggy evening, a late night northbound Bessemer & Lake Erie train has been routed through Kremis interlocking under a starry sky. In a few hours, they would arrive here with a string of empty hopper cars from the mills of Pittsburgh and continue north to the port of Conneaut, OH to be re-loaded with another train load of iron ore to bring south.

I've been out and about shooting, but mostly only put the shots on my personal Facebook page, some on my public FB page and on Instagram. OK, IG I use mostly for my iPhone shots taken on the way to work.
Anyhow... here's a shot from Saturday morning taken at Coral Cove Park. Surf was up, well the tide was incoming. High tide was about 2 hours out, but with a rather stiff breeze from the east the waves were really crashing over the rocks and I had a hard time keeping both, my feet and the lens, dry. I had more success with my feet than with the lens.

While passing the farms of the western Scotland coastline the ferry from Ullapool to Stornoway confronts a storm approaching from the Outer Hebrides. A few farm houses are still illuminated by the retreating sunshine.
CSX H722-14 rumbles out of New Martinsville, passing the sole B&O CPL on the Ohio River Sub (to my knowledge). The lowly CPL is just a switch position indicator and only has two positions, but it's a firm reminded of an era long gone.

The road from Egilsstadir to Myvatn passes a area formed by ash-sprewing volcanoes. The precipitation is quite low in this area, but the efficient draining of the ash makes the area appear as a bone dry desert with almost no vegetation.
The mountains in the background are all volcanoes.
