We are a little below 3300m in the Shilla gorge, still a kilometre or two from the village of Wanla. As usual, I've been spending too long on photography, and am behind the first ponies.
The Flickr mapping gives Kashmir as the location, which may be politically true but culturally we are firmly in Ladakh, having left Kashmir behind.
Welsh Highland Heritage Railway Russell (Hunslet 901, built in 1906) with heritage coaches in tow rounds the horseshoe curve at Ffridd-isaf on the approach to Rhyd Ddu. [Pole, 3/6 sections (~4m)]
Taken on the last of three days of photo charters on the Welsh Highland Railway, as part of the David Williams / Bob Branch "Heaven Again: Welsh Narrow Gauge 2022" event.
Using the pole allowed me to stand slightly further back and see over the heads of other photographers, while also allowing marginally more of the background to be visible.
We were very lucky with the sun here: not long after we arrived, a small blue hole in the distance opened up as it got closer to us. Of the two locations out on the line we visited today, this was the only one we got in sun - and for several run-pasts with both trains. Early in the afternoon the heavy rain began, and we headed back to Porthmadog earlier than planned.

On a chilly February afternoon in 2016, 306 (with double DP) races down the hill towards Glendyne and ultimately the village of Saint-Marc du Lac Long. The manifest has just completed their meet at Tarte with a very late 121, and now tries to make up time before changing crews in Edmundston. At one time, Glendyne housed a siding just under 5000' in length, however now the first siding west of Edmundston isn't until Tarte, due to fewer and longer trains running.
This storm brought a wall of large hail and rain drops that hit with such ferocity that I could not hear my car stereo.
Every time I would get set up to take a photo of the road bend a car would show up on the curve. Finally just said oh well & grabbed shot with car coming around the bend. This is Park Dr. which is the road through Letchworth State Park.
DBS "Red Shed" 66115 approaches Pantyffynnon signal box along the single track on its journey to Gwaen -Cae - Gurwen open cast coal mine on the 6B15, having originated at Swansea Burrows. The train will return to Swansea Burrows loaded with anthracite and will be despatched by another train journey to Onllwyn for processing.
I very rarely get the opportunity to catch a shot with the raindrops falling in the photo, usually because when it rains I'm either trying to get back home before I get too wet, protecting my camera or it's way to heavy rain to see and compose a photo, so I think this is a rare photo : )
Sometimes there is too much light. This Kestrel did not seem bothered by me approaching it, but I couldn't quite get the right angle for the harsh light. It has come out reasonably well following a few adjustments on the computer.
A lengthy SP manifest is rolling along through Cable and is fast approaching the summit. In Tehachapi they will cut out their helper set and begin the descent into Mojave. So many good memories wrapped up in this shot from the four elephant style tunnel motors to the variety of freight cars. I sure miss the SP. 7.86

A trio of SD70ACes leads this eastbound Provo-Denver as it approaches the west end of Leyden. While much of the mid-west is buried under multiple inches of snow, the Denver area has seen hardly any snowfall so far this winter season.

Network Rail have been busy bees in the Eden Valley over the last 6 weeks. Having set up base at the former Cotehill Station, the immediate vicinity has been cleared of vegetation on an industrial scale. This embankment was completely covered by trees over 30ft tall, along it's entire length. Now there is a clear view all the way to Drybeck Viaduct.
Jubilee No.45690 'Leander' heads the returning 'Dalesman' on the approach to Armathwaite Station.
"....and it shall come to pass that afore the apocalypse durst descend upon the people of England that there will cometh three harbingers of doom. The first shall be that on a Sunday afternoon in early October the streetlights of Leeds shall appear strangely menacing".
Judging by the look of this one I'd best stock up on tinned food and tea bags.
Lake Superior - Grand Marais
With the Sawtooth Mountains looming in the background, the darkening clouds warned of the approaching weather. Standing on the rocks just outside the safe harbor area, one can "feel" the energy in the air!
The wind was getting strong, sending waves into the rocks! The seagulls overhead warning, and ominous clouds climbing up the horizon.
"Man, do I love it....."

The longest Tunnel in the Tunnel District is Tunnel 17, which is 1,752 feet long, or roughly 1/3 of a mile long. The tunnel allows the tracks to leave South Draw, and connect with the open valley at Crescent, near Gross Reservoir. The westbound Zephyr is approach a clear (green) intermediate signal just east of Tunnel 17 on the approach to Crescent.
