In the Alps you can find many places like this one: Remote valley and rugged mountains. I took the photo, when hiking in the Canton of Glarus, near Braunwald, Switzerland.

A breathtaking view of the lush green meadows and dense forests of Castelrotto, Italy, set against the dramatic backdrop of the Dolomite mountains. This picturesque scene captures the tranquility and natural beauty of the region.

The region of Davos, Klosters and Parsenn (located in the Canton of Graubünden/Grisons, Switzerland) is very popular for hiking and - in winter - for skiing. Weissfluhjoch and Weissfluh summit are visible in the background.

vacation greetings from the beautiful Carinthian Alps in Austria.

In the alpine meadows of Valmasque Valley, a young chamois stands alert among scattered rocks and tufts of grass. Its soft brown coat and delicate curved horns hint at youth, while its stance reflects the instinctive resilience of mountain wildlife. Surrounded by rugged terrain and the quiet majesty of Mercantour National Park, this moment captures the raw beauty of life in the French Alps—untamed, graceful, and enduring.

Couldn't help it. Just had to get this street style image of the tourists in front of the Chateau Tongariro. Even had a selfie taker...in red. And a serious photog with the tripod.

I get to see many images of some flashy young thing walking up that road with the mountain looming large in the background so when i did a little side adventure on the surf coast this view materialised. So being an ardent pretendy instagrammer had to flash my version minus the stunning model. I'm sure this will not be instagram material....

Side note; no instagrammers feelings were hurt with this post.

I'm sure by now you will know how seriously i take that platform.

Had a feeling that this one should be in a B&W rather than in colour. Taken before the sunset from the hut on Faulhorn (~2681m). The places near Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen are simply amazing, especially near Bachalpsee lake.

The shot was taken from the train en route from Martigny (Switzerland) to Chamonix (France) – one of the most spectacular train rides in Europe, I guess.

That day in August 1995 the (fulfilled) plan was to climb to the summit of the Urlichshorn (3,924 m). We had left the Mischabelhütte (3,340 m) before dawn and began the climb in the light of the head-on lights of the numerous groups of climbers who, like us, had left the refuge in good time. The sunrise caught us at 3,618 m, as we roped ourselves to cross the Hohbalmgletscher glacier, followed by the ascent of the steep slope leading to the Windjoch (3,827 m) and the final aerial snow ridge. The day promised to be cloudy, but the view was very beautiful.

From afar, the Southern Alps stretch like a majestic spine across the horizon—snow-dusted, rugged, and awe-inspiring. Their distant silhouette rises above the rolling hills and open plains, forming a powerful contrast between serenity and grandeur. A landscape where the scale of nature quietly humbles you, and every view feels like a living postcard from New Zealand’s South Island.

The peaks of Aiguille Verte (4122m, left) and Les Drus (3791m) disappears into the clouds.

The picture was taken from the train, coming from Martigny (Switzerland) and descending into the valley of Chamonix Mont-Blanc (France). For me, this is THE way to travel :-)

Dawn reflection of Mount Assiniboine (3,618m or 11,870ft) over Magog Lake. I took this shot after spending most of the night up on Nub Peak and descending with head torches. Somehow still awake thanks to a delirious mix of caffeine and adrenalin. The landscapes around Mt Assiniboine have to be one of the most beautiful parts of the world I have shot in. Over the summer months, the boat service with the highest locations in Europe transports passengers on Lake Sils (Engadin, Switzerland) at an altitude of 1,800 m. Starting in Sils Maria and ending at Maloja the boat crosses Lake Sils in around 40 minutes.

Snow falls on the glacier and, over time, builds up another layer of ice. This crevasse is about ten, fifteen metres high. I don't know how many years it takes to build up that much ice, but it always amazes (and humbles) me how huge and long-lasting the processes in nature are and how small and brief our human existence is compared to it.
