L'alpeggio di Prarayer, in Valpelline, con l'omonimo rifugio

View from one of my favourite spots to spend cold winter days: Vorab Glacier.

The peaks of Piz Sardona and Piz Segnas are shrouded in clouds and bathed in some magical winter light.

Aletschgletscher, as seen from the hiking trail below Bettmerhorn (2,647 m). The whole area is called Aletsch Arena and has one of the most stunning views in the Alps.

The Churfirsten consist of a limestone ridge running east to west, with the individual peaks formed by erosion processes during the Würm glaciation.

In plain sunshine rocks might seem a bit stolid. Not so in Chamonix: Although the Aiguilles are carved out of massive red granite, they look delicate and frisky. And as soon as clouds are forming on their slopes, the Aiguilles come to live. I love to watch the needles and pillars dancing through the clouds.

If a photographer can’t feel what he is looking at, then he is never going to get others to feel anything when they look at his pictures.

A rope team heading for the ridge between Aiguille du Midi and Col du Plan, with Grandes Jorasses looming in the background. Vallée Blanche, Chamonix.

At the weekend, a low pressure system brought some light snowfall and very low hanging clouds, allowing only little light into the woods. I quite liked the mood of it.

This is a full colour photograph, not a toned b/w version. My white balance might be on the cooler side though.

At Col de Rizoul, I waited for the moment when morning clouds would part to reveal the snow-capped peaks. The layered composition of misty valleys, dense forest, and rugged summits creates a quintessential Pyrenenan landscape that speaks to nature's grandeur.

Out of all of the mountains that make up the Alps, the Matterhorn is probably the best known. Meaning “peak in the meadows” in German, the nearly 15,000-foot-tall mountain straddles the Swiss-Italian border and has long been a bucket list destination for climbers.

Immerse yourself in the grandeur of the Alps with "Majestic Matterhorn," a captivating pen illustration that pays homage to the legendary peak of the Matterhorn. This artwork beautifully captures the awe-inspiring beauty and iconic silhouette of one of the world's most famous mountains.

With intricate pen strokes, the artist brings the Matterhorn to life on paper, showcasing its rugged slopes, sharp edges, and towering presence. The delicate details and precise linework create a sense of depth and texture, evoking a feeling of being in the presence of this magnificent alpine wonder.

Display "Majestic Matterhorn" in your home or office, and let it become a captivating centerpiece that transports you to the breathtaking landscapes of the Alps. Whether you're an avid mountaineer, an admirer of nature's beauty, or simply appreciate the art of illustration, this artwork serves as a reminder of the power and majesty of the natural world.

This view of the imposing seracs on the north face of the Allalinhorn (4027m) presented itself after I had spent most of the day engulfed in thick clouds. It lasted only a few moments and I never saw the Allalinhorn's neighbours Täschhorn, Dom, Lenzspitze, Nadelhorn or Weismies. Just minutes after I took this picture, the wind picked up and moved new clouds in. The result was a bout of wet snowfall and the loss of light and contrast. Getting this shot was worth being there and waiting for hours though.

PS: Although it may look like a black and white conversion or as if I desaturated it, the picture is actually in full colour :-)

The trail meanders through rolling alpine meadows, leading toward the scattered huts at the foot of the rugged peaks. A landscape painted in green slopes, rocky ridges, and a sky of restless clouds – alpine calm and vitality in one frame.

in the tranquil embrace of an early morning in south tyrol, near lüsen, the first light delicately brushes the mountain peaks, casting a warm, golden hue that contrasts against the shadowed valleys below. the solitude of the small house, nestled amidst a sea of evergreen, speaks to the peace of a day yet to begin. captured with the leica sl3 and sigma 50mm dg dn art f/1.2, the scene captures the quiet beauty of nature’s awakening.

Totes Gebirge / Salzkammergut

I captured this image late on a mid-July morning from the Packer Saddle near the Sierra Buttes. This area is a great place to escape summer heat, as you can find camping places above 6,000 feet elevation and spend a great deal of time even higher. This spot is around 7,000 feet. The wildflower bloom there tends to happen quite a bit later as well, so you can have the added bonus of enjoying more flowers after those at lower and hotter locations have wilted.

My wife and I were camped just a few miles down the road from this spot, so I got moving before dawn one morning and took a drive/short hike looking for a spot to photograph wildflowers as foreground interest for the majestic Buttes. I thought this spot fit the bill as the sun just broke over the eastern ridgeline and threw some nice light on the buttes themselves.

The Sierra Buttes rise like a jagged crown above the Lakes Basin in California’s northern Sierra Nevada. Towering over 8,500 feet, these ancient volcanic remnants were once part of a much larger stratovolcano. Their craggy spires are a geological mash-up of lava flows, breccia, and granite intrusions, sculpted by eons of uplift and erosion. Gold was discovered in the area during the 1850s, and remnants of old mines still dot the slopes. Today, the Buttes are a popular destination for hikers, photographers, and climbers, offering sweeping views of dozens of alpine lakes and a rare high-country fire lookout clinging to the summit. If you view this image large enough, you’ll be able to just make out the lookout. I highly recommend the hike up there if you are able and get a chance – it is quite rugged and strenuous, but the views you’re rewarded with at the top are amazing!

This tranquil alpine scene captures the serene beauty of a summer morning high in California’s Sierra Nevada. The soft golden light touching the rugged peaks and tall conifers evokes a sense of peace and solitude that nature lovers, hikers, and wilderness seekers will find especially meaningful. The carpet of yellow wildflowers adds a vibrant yet delicate detail that would complement interiors with rustic, mountain, or lodge-inspired themes. Ideal for those who have explored the Lakes Basin region or anyone who dreams of quiet mornings in the high country. A perfect piece for residents of Northern California or visitors who cherish the Sierra Buttes and its surrounding trails.
