Found this in a cranny of huge rocks in Tenguhara, Glacier Park, Yarisawa Valley. For the record, I didn't jetspray it red. Neither did anyone else, I gather. ;)
Getting up at 0530 wasn’t too bad as an epic biking day as ahead of us. First we rode from the Grimselpass to Oberwald (one of my favourite flow trails) and, as our shuttle bus didn’t show up, we biked to the Nufenenpass and enjoyed the trails down to Ulrichen. What a day (you might want to check out the "video)

In midwinter the alpine village at Ben Lomond is a hive of activity. Those hikers staying over on this summer day had not ventured outside into the mist and rain.
This crater erupted in 2012 and sent debris as far as the track on the Tongariro Alpine Crossing . The evidence can be seen today and the Ketetahi Hut along the track a bit still shows the impact damage and is being left for all to see with some weather-proofing .
On the left back-ground you can see Lake Rotoaira with Lake Taupo over the saddle in the distance.
One of my favorite hikes of all time- worth every foot of elevation gain.

From last Sunday night, the Milky Way rises over Lake Alpine, CA.
Miguel and I made our triumphant return to this spot, where just 3 months earlier, we endured a harrowing adventure...
[Journal entry, May 2019] With Ebbets Pass still closed for winter, there was quite a bit of snow on the ground as we approached Lake Alpine, CA around 10pm. Temps were 23F and dropping. We turned off the main road down a groomed snow road and slowly navigated my 4WD truck over the hard ice crust. Suddenly, we broke through and became hopelessly stuck. We began stuffing tree branches, floor mats under the tires for traction, but were sinking further and further. Hiking out to the main road, we awakened a sleeping camper and borrowed his shovel. We proceeded to take turns digging snow and ice pack for the next several hours. By morning, the snow began to soften rapidly, and the truck continued to sink. Exhausted, we hitched a ride up to Bear Valley where there was a cell signal and called for a tow truck with a winch. We paid our money and regrettably, he had to leave us where we were. As the next evening arrived, we dug a very long and deep ramp in the snow, hoping that by nightfall the snow would re-freeze enough to allow us to drive out. Then, while lying in the snow to address our exhaustion, as if seeing a distant mirage, we spotted 3 fellow offroaders who had accidentally turned down our road and were about to back out. We flagged them for help and spent the next hour daisy chaining 3 vehicles with winches to pull each successively from the slush.
I leaned a valuable lesson, to never go offroading with only one vehicle. [end entry]
This image was captured with the DFA 25mm f/4 lens on the 645Z. It is a multi-stacked, manual blend, incorporating some light painting of the foreground trees and rocks using my LED panel on a stick. The glow on the horizon is light pollution, likely from Sonora or Modesto.

A bit later in the morning, the sun broke over the ridge and began making great shadows on the snow. I captured some black and white 35mm here but didn't finish off the roll. Soon enough I will get it processed and upload it here.
I'd like to climb this mountain someday. And I'd also like to get the shot from the Illumination saddle. Soon!

One of the few things I expected to find this trip was ice bubbles. Many of the alpine lakes in the Canadian Rockies have plant life that outgas methane which in turn get trapped under forming ice to create ice bubbles. Such bubbles usually only exist during the coldest spell of winter in January and February but some recent frigid temperatures began freezing large sections of Johnson Lake.
As sunset approached I looked towards the west and noticed light still hitting some of the clouds. I immediately knew getting on the ice would offer the best photo opportunities. I thought of looking for cracks or surface ice patterns but little did I know methane bubbles were trapped under much of the ice. The prelude to the incoming snow storm kicked up significant winds and blew snow across the typically wind-sheltered lake. I waited and waited for the right gust to capture the streaking snow above the ice surface. The evening ended up being an awesome outing slipping and sliding around while squeezing a last shoot in before the big storm.

In summit area of 14,264' Mt. Evans, Colorado where a deteriorating 1930's era road goes nearly to the top. The blue flowers are Alpine For-Get-Me-Not, (Eritrichium elongatum), Yellow are Alpine Avens, and pink are either Dwarf or Alpine Clover
Spotted this tree on a bike ride between Scharnitz in Austria and Mittenwald, Germany. Stood out to me as different from the uniform Pine trees.
Here it is a roof detail of the Refuge Savoia, located on the Nivolet plateau (2.534 m), Gran Paradiso National Park, Italy.
Probably not one of the first subjects that may go through your mind to photograph in that stunning alpine area :-) ... but with no doubt these ancient tiles have their own charm, it would have been a pity not to photograph them as well.
