White-tailed Deer have reason to be alert: they are the most hunted creature in the U.S. In fact, they are equipped with a white under-tail which serves as a danger flag. However, this alertness can minimize photo opportunities. In this case, the doe stood alert instead of running away, giving me the time I needed to snatch this shot.

This is uncropped from 30m. I was playing with my teleconverter and OM Zoom lens at 800mm on a monopod when this wee fellow jumped in view for a moment... It was a very sift result so I added some underpainting and soft motion blur in corel..
Tip of the day.. teleconversion to 800mm needs low iso, a tripod, shutter release and patience...

Google Alerts are cool. Thanks to Bill at Soldersmoke for mentioning them. You just set up a search term and you get an email whenever it's found out there on the Innerwebs. This google alert is for XV2OC. I never would have known they were using my QSL card for their advertising page. I also find that tons of websites are using KC7FYS, 7J1AWL, and KB0LOK videos and things tagged with those terms in their content. Anyway--there's my boy!
On the other hand, you can see that this QSL company, who gave me a killer deal on a nicely-printed card, is publishing my home address on their website.
But right now she's not that alert - she's deeply asleep on her much beloved balcony - totally crashed ;)
I'm still in the learning and trying process with my new Mac, but at least I can download photos from my cameras and upload photos to both Flickr and FaceBook for example! The most essential features for me so far ;)

We went back just before dusk to where we had seen the lions resting earlier in the day. They were now much more alert and we were a little nervous being so close to them. They were no longer lying around sleeping.

In my dreams. The alert crews that day were the only witnesses to my handiwork, although she did appear in a volume on aircraft nose art by my friend, Jeff Ethell. Unfortunately, Jeff wasn't aware of the story when he published his book; when I shared the saga in all its sordid detail, he wanted to use it again in a follow-on work. A group of military divers coming from the American and Canadian Navy, as well as Canadian Forces reservists, were at Canadian Forces Station (CFS) Alert in the Arctic, on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, to fix one of the station's water treatment plant's pumps, which broke a few weeks ago, reducing the amount of fresh water available at the Arctic station. Above, the group of divers found a unique way of killing time after dinner: swimming amongst the icebergs in the bay at the end of the runway.

A couple of days before 3 white supremacists had shot 5 people during the night. Luckily, there were no fatalities. These redneck scumbag cowards were found and arrested. So, there was increased security awareness. Minnesota is the most racist state I have ever lived in. And I lived in the South for awhile. It's the worse kind of racism . . .under the table, pervasive and subtle. Income inequity between blacks and others is one of the worst in the nation I have found that Minnesota talks a good game, but if you are "different" . . . there are an array of subtle prejudices that are used. It is also amazing that just because one is "white", it is ASSUMED you harbor the same dysfunctional and redneck views as other "whites". It is a pervasive attitude that infect many of our state and federal judges here as well. Emotional dishonesty is pandemic. So one has to choose and make genuine friends carefully up here. Rose colored glasses are standard attire if you want to be accepted from "real" Minnesotans.
