During my little visit with this coyote last week, he repeatedly approached to within about 3 meters, back becoming strongly arched, hair standing on end , then jumped back each time, before actually making contact.
Near the Alaska / Yukon border.

Mr. Riley man on high alert in the front yard in January. He is quite the protector of the yard and driveway. He lets Willow be the guard inside most of the time though he has become more and more vocal when seeing things through the window. But, when he is outside, he lets everyone know he is there! He is such a great dog!

How I love watching hummingbird antics...as if you couldn't tell! There was a group of juveniles playing around this bunch of wild fennel. I wish the incoming bird had been a little closer (or maybe me at a different angle) so it would've been in better focus. Oh well!
A friend asked how I manage to capture these guys...well, it's easy and it's not. It's not easy to capture them as they fly by...they are too fast. Or if they are hovering in front of you...their movements are too random. However, if you can find them feeding, your odds improve greatly. There's still some randomness to their movements, but you have more time to get them in focus. If you can find them sitting...well that's even easier, although not necessarily as interesting!
There are people who like to photograph them at feeders, and then those who add sugar water to some blossoms to entice them in. Some set up elaborate screens and flashes...and they get great shots.
I don't do any of that. All my birds are found on walks with the photo assist dog. It is a combination of knowing the likely areas and times these birds hang out, and then being ready. Maybe one day, I will plant my own hummingbird jungle so that they will visit my yard!
Pronghorn are the fastest mammal in North American. They can run at speeds close to sixty miles per hour.

On the ferry from Bowen Island to Horseshoe Bay. I wonder what kinds of things are usually posted as "Tourist Alerts".
I couldn't help but chuckle when I noticed this sign appear at Taffs Well railway station. Has there been a problem with train crews forgetting to stop at the Treforest Estate railway station, I wonder, or is it simply that we do have dragons in Wales after all that Treforest Estate is where they lie in wait to snack on passing trains?

Colleen and I made a quick trip over to Cades Cove in Smoky Mountain National Park. It is about 2.5-3 hours depending on who you get caught behind. We got a late start and didn't get to the cove until 10:30. We decided to ride our bikes since there isn't a better way to pass cars in the notoriously slow Cades Cove Loop and it is the best way to navigate a "bear jam".
I didn't see anything. Not even deer!! Almost halfway through the loop I was resigned on just getting a good workout lugging my gear on the bike... Luck was with us. There was a mamma bear(sow) relaxing under a tree while her two cubs were snoozing about 50-60 ft up. She was very patient with the photographers and tourists. She definitely stayed alert between short "bear naps"

The action is so fast that I never know what I have until I look at the shots on the computer. I had to laugh when I saw this one for the first time. They look like two old West gunslingers getting ready for the showdown shootout. From the look in the Hummingbird's eye I would say the Bumble Bee would be lunch it it were not for the stinger...LOL. Explored.
