Sandhill Cranes

Near Woodbridge Ecological Reserve, Lodi, California

this Cheetah had made a kill and was resting after eating.

It had heard lions roaring nearby and is on high alert, raising its head regularly above the grass to check the area.

After spending some time with this beautiful cat we moved on and found 2 big male lions and a female a few hundred meters away.

Cleo in the garden this morning. Her expression and the hedgehog hairdo are due to the dogs being noisy on the other side of the fence. The dogs were barking because they wanted to intimidate Filou which worked very well. I don't think that they had noticed Cleo because usually they have a certain respect for her. A moment after I took this photo she ran over to the fence, hit one of the dogs on the nose and suddenly there was silence on the other side of the fence.

Taken early morning on the Northumberland Moors, just me and the wildlife.

Waterloo Township, Michigan

This Mallard drake was guarding its mate and I was getting a little too close for his comfort. This was his high-head alert instinct kicking in, trying to decide between flight and fight.

Obviously my telephoto makes it look like I'm a lot close than I really was. I passed by from a distance and he went back to relaxing with his female hen :)

a herd of Guanaco's has detected a female Puma among the low vegetation on a hill. Instead of running they are intensely watching the cat

Guanaco's are the main prey species of Pumas in Torres del Paine National Park, Patagonia, Chile

With sentinels placed on hill tops Guanaco herds have a very efficient defense system during the daytime.

We have observed several times that with their excellent eyesight these sentinels are able to detect movement several hundred meters away. Often it are Puma cubs that break cover for an instant which makes daytime hunting very difficult for puma mothers.

The sound of the Guanaco alarm calls carries quite far.

Early morning Barn Owl taking in the surroundings on the northumberland coast.

A herd of spotted deers (chitals) interrupted and alerted by something in the middle of a road crossing. Sure enough, after a little further we saw a tiger.

Moderate risk with rough or very rough seas, possible coastal erosion and delays to maritime connections. Caution is advised, especially for recreational boating and beach activities, which may be prohibited. It is necessary to secure objects exposed to the wind, avoid piers and breakwaters, and pay attention to areas near the coast.

Same lamb front & sideways view in the fields.

Mom is very close too

Red-browed Finch (Neochmia temporalis)

Another from a visit to Werribee Park on this day in 2017.

I saw this lioness is low scrub close to a dry creek bed in Kruger National Park. She has left her cubs in the creek bed about 300 metres distant. I assume she was looking to find her family breakfast, although her attention seemed to be on her babies, since that's where she's looking. I would never have seen her cubs had she not looked in their direction. They were too far away and too well hidden for photos.

Thanks to everyone for your visiting, favs & comments :).

This male Anna's hummingbird was ready and alert, leaning forward slightly, ready to fly off. I just love his tiny little feet. He's got an impressive gorget in my opinion. Come springtime, he'll be able to use that to his advantage. Those flashy colors attract the ladies.

Earlier I already posted a picture of this roe in between the bushes where she has fled into it because of a passing cyclist (www.flickr.com/photos/115540984@N02/53962995818/in/datepo...). This was a moment before when she was grazing very peacefully although she had found out there was somebody pointing a camera at her.

It is one of those moments that you remember for the rest of your life because the whole setting breathed peace and tranquillity. For me the reason to go out as much as possible. With nature I connect, far away as possible from human society.

Sony a7rII | LA-EA4 | Minolta 100 2.8 macro

This image was captured in the Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica on our trip last August. They are quite interesting to watch and if you ever have the opportunity to see them run it is amazing. They run so quickly that they can truly run on water thus getting the name "Jesus Christ Lizard". They are often seen a vibrant green color but as you can see this one is quite camouflaged !!

Wishing you an awesome Saturday and a blessed one too !!

A prairie dog barks about a potential threat to alert its neighbors. They are such fascinating little animals to observe!

On a technical note, I am so impressed with the image quality I am getting with the 800mm PF lens and the Z mount 1.4x teleconverter!
