Photo Special: WWF Souvenir Alert

Date: 19/08/2014

The Municipality of Zeist in The Netherlands (Gemeente Zeist) had a collection of two crates with 'wildlife souvenirs' that gathered dust in their archives. They decided to donate this collection to the WWF The Netherlands (WNF Nederland).

WWF has launched the Souvenir Alert campaign back in 2000 to create awareness of illegal wildlife trade. And what stuff - like corals, crocodile leather - not to bring back from your holidays.

Since I'm a volunteer for the WWF, I decided to photograph this collection of corals, starfish, shells and fish. For the beauty of these pieces of nature and to create more awareness for illegal wildlife trading.

Google Alerts are cool. Thanks to Bill at Soldersmoke for mentioning them. You just set up a search term and you get an email whenever it's found out there on the Innerwebs. This google alert is for XV2OC. I never would have known they were using my QSL card for their advertising page. I also find that tons of websites are using KC7FYS, 7J1AWL, and KB0LOK videos and things tagged with those terms in their content. Anyway--there's my boy!

On the other hand, you can see that this QSL company, who gave me a killer deal on a nicely-printed card, is publishing my home address on their website.

During my little visit with this coyote last week, he repeatedly approached to within about 3 meters, back becoming strongly arched, hair standing on end , then jumped back each time, before actually making contact.

Near the Alaska / Yukon border.

A reminder that crime doesn't pay. Seen outside Ang Mo Kio Hub.
