Steam engines - very impressive!. Many historic steam engines, impressive, large and hissing, and beautifully lit in the evening. Not only were they parked somewhere but they also drove around the old city center which got a lot of attention from the public. The sound of the steam whistles has long been the typical sound for another summer edition of the Vestingdagen event.

Late 19th century coal mine architecture.
.
The station building is richly decorated, with a landing and large overhanging roof with chalet-style wood ornaments, constructed from approximately 300,000 bricks with distinctive horizontal patterns. The name "Rijksmijn Baron 1898" is placed above the door. Next to the station building is a 22 meter high chimney and an enormous shaft tower with the characteristic large wheels for the mine lift.

Baron 1898 (Est. 2015) - a dive coaster in which visitors take a perpendicular free fall. The attraction is themed as a late nineteenth century coal mine as in the Limburg Mining Region, but in the story, and of course for the Efteling, told to be a gold mine. The name Baron 1898 refers to the background story of the saga of the Witte Wieven, in which a greedy mining baron, Gustave Hooghmoed, has found a gold vein and wants to extract as much gold as possible from the ground. However, the fertile soil is protected by the Witte Wieven.

A few chairs and a table. Worn out but every year still there. It's a common view in many French villages, people are used to take a seat outside in many months of the year.
It's one of those excellent places to sit and enjoy this medieval town. It looks a bit worn out but that's because of frequent use, a French custom. Imagine, just add a nice French coffee, a crispy Croissant and the local newspaper. It's one of those many healthy moments of peace in the outdoors.
Over the years, not much has really changed in this corner, at most the grape stump with fresh green leaves in early spring and to see how the grape bunches mature during the summer and autumn. Who wouldn't want to have their own terrace like this, and the time and opportunity to use it almost the whole year round

The small village Monpazier, a 13th-century bastide town, founded in 1285 and built by King Edward I of England for trade, commerce and justice. It almost didn't change in the past centuries, a medieval town square lined with an arched arcade, a 16th-century covered market, three of the original six rampared city gates remain and many other traces of medieval history. This picturesque small village is one of the "Les Plus Beaux Villages de France" villages, said to be one of the most atractive in southwest France.

Hellevoetsluis - During the time of the United Provinces Hellevoetsluis was the naval port of the Admiralty of de Maze (Rotterdam) and could accommodate an entire fleet within a special land-enclosed fortress with harbour and dockyard facilities, accessible through a canal. Thanks to its strategic situation the town grew from the beginning of the 17th century to be the homeport for the Dutch war fleet. In later years the port was fortified more and more and Hellevoetsluis therefore became a unique combination of fortified town and naval port. The Admirals Maarten Tromp, Michiel de Ruyter and Piet Heyn had their home base here and in 1688 during the Glorious Revolution William III of Orange's invasion fleet departed from the port.

Turning a rugged Cowboy Steak into a masterpiece requires the right crust and a bit of modern magic. This beautifully marbled cut, essentially a bone-in ribeye, has been generously seasoned and prepped for a surprisingly effective tool: the airfryer. While traditionalists might stick to the grill, the circulating hot air mimics a convection oven, rendering the fat perfectly while locking in those rich, beefy juices. This specific preparation method has surged in popularity because it provides a consistent, high-heat environment that caramelizes the exterior without the guesswork of an open flame. High-quality beef like this contains oleic acid, the same heart-healthy fat found in olive oil, making it as flavorful as it is satisfying. It’s a bold fusion of classic culinary tradition and contemporary food preparation.
Steakhouse-quality results used to require industrial infrared broilers, but technology has finally brought that power to the home kitchen counter.

Strypemonde - a walk on this 100-hectare estate leads you through a beautiful varied forest and past a flowery forest meadow and many special trees, such as the Metasequoia Glyptostroboides and exotic oaks. The former owners of the then 2000 hectare estate were shipowners, they brought many cuttings and seeds from abroad and they still grow here. The area is also rich in tawny owls, long-eared owls and woodpeckers and you will find many mushrooms in the autumn.
The name Strypemonde comes from a wide creek, the Strype, which flowed into the sea here in the Middle Ages and which was later dammed. The hunting lodges Olaertsduin and Strypemonde (anno 1930) are national monuments and the Schaapskooy is a municipal monument

Who wouldn't want to have their own terrace like this, and the time and opportunity to use it almost the whole year round.

Capture of Brielle - Procession
April 1st, 1572 - the capture of Brielle by the Watergeuzen. A turning point in the uprising of the Low Countries against Spain in the Eighty Years' War. Militarily the success was minor as the port of Brielle was poorly defended by the Spanish, but it provided the first foothold on land for the rebels at a time when the rebellion was all but crushed, and it offered the sign for a new revolt throughout the Netherlands which led to the formation of the Dutch Republic.
The Watergeuzen were led by William van der Marck, Lord of Lumey, and by two of his captains, Willem Bloys van Treslong and Lenaert Jansz de Graeff. After they were expelled from England by Elizabeth I, they needed a place to shelter their 25 ships. As they sailed towards Brielle, they were surprised to find out that the Spanish garrison led by the Spanish "Iron" Duke of Alva protagonists was poorly defended. On the evening of April 1 in 1572, the 600 men sacked the port, rammed the city gates, defeated the Spanish soldiers and liberated Brielle as the first Dutch city in the Netherlands from de Spanish .
Nowadays a very popular annual UNESCO event with lots of Watergeuzen, Spanish soldiers and medieval dressed people in a city center all dressed up just like then on that historical day.
