Dreaming of Jean de La Fontaine. Wall decoration reminiscent of the stories and drawings of the fabulist and poet Jean de La Fontaine, one of the literature and arts guests at the nearby château Vaux-le-Vicomte. From the time of the playwright Molière, they were among the artists close to Fouquet. This presentation, with the paintings on canvas in the hallway among huge artistic mirrors must have been stunning to see in brandnew state and years after, nowadays it shows signs of the passed history and maybe it should be renovated to restore it into it's full former glory just like I tried with this photographic version. Anyways, a nice thought for a good night dream.

Medieval city gate Grendelpoort (Est. 1335).
.
The "Grendelpoort" (Est. 1335), national monument and one of the three original city gates of Valkenburg as part of the medieval defenses. The gate and defenses were built of marlstone, a commonly used stone extracted from the various quarries. What used to be more of a ruin, it now has a portcullis again since 2010 and in 2014 the gate, together with the Geulpoort including towers, was completely restored.
The Grendelpoort city gate was built around 1335, initially with the name Bergerpoort, Maastrichtse Poort or Trichterpoort, after the places where the road led through the gate. On the outside of the gate was a well, the Grendelput after which the gate is now named.
On September 25 in 2010 the year in which the "Valkenburg Schutterij" existed for 550 years, the life-size bronze statue with the name "Sjotter aan de Poort" was unveiled. The statue of the "Sjötter" is dressed in the uniform "der Oude en Jonge Nobele" for which a member of these civic guards has served as a model.
Trivia: On September 24, 1901, the first fatal car accident in the Netherlands took place. At the foot of the Valkenburg Cauberg, a car whose brakes no longer worked collided with the medieval Grendelpoort.

Sleep tight my lovely cat (Louis XIV/Netherlands ) - Sleep tight my lovely cat. Loudly purring on his cozy blanket, he drifts far away to cats dreamland. His legs show his adventures with small jerks, his beak shows little movements. From time to time he twists to get even deeper into his blanket, he is really at home. He feels safe and satisfied because he also knows that his owners are very close.

Fortresse Holland - Ramtorenschip De Buffel
Ramtower ship De Buffel (Est. 1896) - a heavily armored ram ship in service of the Royal Navy until 1973 as "Hr.Ms. Buffel" or "Hr.Ms. Buffel" (NATO number A 884). Built in 1868 at the Napier & Sons shipyard of Glasgow. The first ship of the Royal Navy without sails, a large armored 2.198 ton ram ship with a steam engine and two propellers. Equipped with an armament of a heavy ram on the bow, several guns and operated by a crew of 150 men. The ships role was to defend the Dutch coast and later used as an accommodation ship. Nowadays it's a museum ship "Ramtoren schip Buffel" in Hellevoetsluis. Almost symbolically anchored in the "Maritime Quarter" of the "Fortresse Holland" museum in Hellevoetsluis. In a harbor area with various other historical ships and nearby structures all securely anchored in Dutch history for future generations. It's a location with many more national history facts being a important port and naval base for centuries.

The story of Symbolica is all about visiting king Pardulfus, who lives in Hartenhof (court of hearts). While the visitors await their audience with the king, a character called Pardoes (a jester who is Efteling's main mascot) appears. Pardoes then guides the visitors through hidden parts of the palace.

---
Chateau des Milandes - Freda Josephine Baker (June 3, 1906 – April 12, 1975), naturalized as Joséphine Baker, was an American-born French dancer, singer and actress. Her career was centered primarily in Europe, mostly in her adopted France. She was the first black woman to star in a major motion picture. During her early career, Baker was among the most celebrated performers to headline the revues of the Folies Bergère in Paris with her costume, consisting of only a short skirt of artificial bananas and a beaded necklace. She became an iconic image and a symbol both of the Jazz Age and the Roaring Twenties.
She raised her children in France at Chateau des Milandes. She aided the French Resistance during World War II and awarded the Resistance Medal by the French Committee of National Liberation, the Croix de Guerre by the French military, and Chevalier of the Légion d'honneur by General Charles de Gaulle.
On November 30, 2021, she was inducted into the Panthéon in Paris, the first black woman to receive one of the highest honors in France. As her resting place remains in Monaco Cemetery, a cenotaph was installed in vault 13 of the crypt in the Panthéon.
