The attraction is themed as a late nineteenth century coal mine as in the Limburg Mining Region, but in the story, and of course for the Efteling, told to be a gold mine. The name Baron 1898 refers to the background story of the saga of the Witte Wieven, in which a greedy mining baron, Gustave Hooghmoed, has found a gold vein and wants to extract as much gold as possible from the ground. However, the fertile soil is protected by the Witte Wieven.

Puerto Dorado village overrun by pirates in search of treasure. The first sight is the town square, where some pirates have kidnapped the mayor, Carlos, and threaten to drown him in a well if he doesn't divulge the location of the treasure. Carlos' wife tells him to be brave and not talk; she is shot at as Carlos is repeatedly dunked in the water while several other captive city officials look on. Captain Jack Sparrow is seen hiding behind some dresses. An auction scene follows, where a pirate auctions off loot from the townspeople to other pirates. A redheaded female pirate is more interested in the town's rum supply, as are the bidders, who ignore the chickens that are currently offered for bidding.

In a next scene, pirates run around chasing women holding trays of food, and two foolish buccaneers who have stolen snacks are chased by an angry woman holding a rolling pin. Just beyond is the "Pooped Pirate" drunkenly waving a map and key to a treasure vault, boasting that Captain Jack Sparrow will never see it. Jack is hiding in a barrel just behind him, popping out and getting a good look at the map over the pirate's shoulder. Off to the side, a pirate by the name of "Old Bill" wants to share rum with a group of terrified alley cats.

Carefree, tipsy pirates succeed in ravaging the town and setting it aflame, filling the night air with an orange glow.

The cathedral site also includes the "Palais Épiscopal" housing the Bossuet Museum, the art and history museum of Meaux, and the "Jardin Bossuet de Meaux", a garden walled with a Gallo-Roman fortress wall, the historical remparts of this ancient city.

Karl Lagerfeld deserves a statue.

.

Karl Otto Lagerfeld (Hamburg, September 10, 1933 – Neuilly-sur-Seine, February 19, 2019) was a German fashion designer, artist and photographer, who lived and worked mainly in Paris since 1952.

He was one of the most influential couturiers of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, and was also active in other creative fields, most notably photography.

Indeed, Karl Lagerfeld deserves a statue.

The overall looks of the shops are very nice, non of the shops are alike and they are all painted in nice colors with just enough decorations. As a whole it is like a village with beautiful houses.

Notice that the first floor isn't used at all, it's empty and nobody actually lives here. That's a lot of unused space just for decoration and presentation purposes but without the extra floor the houses would loose the required high to look nice and impressive. Afterall, this village is all about presentation and design...

Opening on March 18, 1967, the Disneyland version of Pirates of the Caribbean was the last attraction that Walt Disney himself participated in designing, debuting three months after his death. The ride gave rise to the song "Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me)" written by George Bruns and Xavier Atencio. The song became the basis for the Pirates of the Caribbean film series, which debuted in 2003. Since 2006, Disney has incorporated characters from the film series into the various versions of the rides.

Climbing up the tower.

Raponsje (Est. 2001) - a fairy tale about a girl who is locked up in a tower by a sorcerer, but by letting her hair fall out the window, the sorcerer and later a prince whom she falls in love manages to climb up. The fairy tale with the original title "Rapunzel" was written by the Brothers Grimm. It first appeared in the collection Kinder- und Hausmärchen in the 1812 edition.

"Raponsje" was added to the Efteling in 2001, after a design by Ton van de Ven, his latest addition to the Fairytale Forest. The image of Rapunzel consists of a ten meter high, robust tower with a window at the top. From this Rapunzel looks down and her braid hangs to the ground. Every few minutes the wizard climbs up that braid.

French colors for Josephine Baker.

Josephine Baker is finally wearing the French colours. I made this composition by using the original theater decoration logo's found and photographed in the Music Hall at Chateau-des-Milandes. Overall a location where you can still feel her vibrant presence.

---

Pantheon Paris (mausoleum of France) - after her death she was the only American-born woman to receive full French military honours at her funeral, Baker was interred at Monaco's Cimetière de Monaco. In 2021, nearly half a century after her death, President Emmanuel Macron granted her to be honoured at the Pantheon Paris, mausoleum of France, this in recognition of the fact that Josephine Baker's "whole life was dedicated to the twin quest for liberty and justice.". She's the first black woman who received this highest honour in France, and sixth of woman, now among "Les Grands Hommes" of France. Also the first entertainer immortalized at the Pantheon alongside revered historical figures like Victor Hugo, Emile Zola and Marie Curie

At 30 november 2021 Josephine Baker merged with full honours into the colours of France for eternity. Among "Les Grands Hommes" honoured at the Pantheon Paris, mausoleum of France. Symbol of the French Resistance, symbol for so many people.

Photo July 2015, Josephine Baker (Born as Freda Josephine Baker / June 3, 1906 – April 12, 1975) after 40 years in time. In the year 2025 it's 50 years since.

---

Chateau des Milandes - Freda Josephine Baker (June 3, 1906 – April 12, 1975), naturalized as Joséphine Baker, was an American-born French dancer, singer and actress. Her career was centered primarily in Europe, mostly in her adopted France. She was the first black woman to star in a major motion picture. During her early career, Baker was among the most celebrated performers to headline the revues of the Folies Bergère in Paris with her costume, consisting of only a short skirt of artificial bananas and a beaded necklace. She became an iconic image and a symbol both of the Jazz Age and the Roaring Twenties.

She raised her children in France at Chateau des Milandes. She aided the French Resistance during World War II and awarded the Resistance Medal by the French Committee of National Liberation, the Croix de Guerre by the French military, and Chevalier of the Légion d'honneur by General Charles de Gaulle.

On November 30, 2021, she was inducted into the Panthéon in Paris, the first black woman to receive one of the highest honors in France. As her resting place remains in Monaco Cemetery, a cenotaph was installed in vault 13 of the crypt in the Panthéon.
