The falconers present during a bird show a nice collection of diurnal and nocturnal raptors every day. The birds, some very special to see, are also to be admired outside the shows. The raptor show takes place on the northern esplanade of the castle, in front of the Renaissance facade of the castle and overlooking the Dordogne valley.

During the show the falconers are constantly and very rapid talking in French only. An immense load of information during an hour about these birds, this while most of the visitors are foreign and don't understand this huge ammount of French. Luckely the many birds are very nice to see.

The Castle is home to a dragon, which, at 27 meters (89 ft) from head to tail, was the largest Animatronic figure yet built when the park opened in April 1992. The walkthrough attraction consists of a dimly lit cavern with the large dragon sleeping silently. Occasionally it will 'wake up', puffing smoke and growling. The building also contains La Galerie de la Belle au Bois Dormant, a gallery of displays which illustrate the story of Sleeping Beauty in tapestries, stained glass windows and figures. A Demoiselle Crane in the open-air aviary. Visitors do walk on paths, but the birds can be found everywhere because they do not stay in their own cage

The demoiselle crane is slightly smaller than the common crane but has similar plumage. It has a long white neck stripe and the black on the foreneck extends down over the chest in a plume. It has a loud trumpeting call, higher-pitched than the common crane. Like other cranes it has a dancing display, more balletic than the common crane, with less leaping. The demoiselle was so named by Queen Marie Antoinette, for its delicate and maiden-like appearance..

We rarely encounter true winter weather in our home region. Yet, sometimes it turns out that winter weather isn't far away. A trip to the Belgian Ardennes isn't far for us to travel, which makes it even more surprising how quickly we can find ourselves in a true winter landscape. The Belgian Ardennes are incredibly rich in forests and nature reserves, which create an especially beautiful sight when covered in snow

Terracotta Army - L'Armée Terracotta

Exhibition "L'armée Terracotta - l'héritage de l'empereur chinois éternel". It shows items part of one of the greatest discoveries of the last century, the terracotta army discovered in 1974, dated about 2,200 years ago, then ancient China of the first Chinese emperor.

The 8,000 terracotta soldiers were a burial gift for Emperor Qin Shi Huang Di (259 -210 BC). The archaeological site, now a UNESCO World Heritage site, encompasses a stunning 98 square kilometers (38 square miles). As many as 700,000 conscripted workers have worked on the project to recreate the army of the Chinese emperor in terracotta, that is more than have worked on the pyramid of Cheops. Some time after the burial the collection was destroyed and weapons stolen by a rival emperor. The exhibition shows realistic replicas and unfortunately not the originals because they are too fragile to transport.

Fortifications - during the time of the United Provinces Hellevoetsluis was the naval port of the Admiralty of de Maze (Rotterdam) and could accommodate an entire fleet within a special land-enclosed fortress with harbour and dockyard facilities, accessible through a canal. Thanks to its strategic situation the town grew from the beginning of the 17th century to be the homeport for the Dutch war fleet. In later years the port was fortified more and more and Hellevoetsluis therefore became a unique combination of fortified town and naval port.

The Admirals Maarten Tromp, Michiel de Ruyter and Piet Heyn had their home base here and in 1688 during the Glorious Revolution William III of Orange's invasion fleet departed from the port.

Indricotherium - full name: Indricotherium transouralicum, also called Baluchitherium) is a genus of giant extinct mammals that lived in Asia during the Oligocene. It belonged to the rhino family but did not have a horn like today's rhinos.

It was a herbivore that grazed the leaves and branches of tall trees. Fossilized bones of Indricotherium have been found in Central Asia.

Never mind the Shopping weather.

.

An immense hall, high above the head of the huge glass roof. It lets daylight play with the light. Large terraces on both sides let people experience as if they were outside. There is even a merry-go-round, perhaps symbolic of this form of shelter and amenities for the vast numbers of people who have only one place to shop and shop now that all the small shops and businesses have succumbed to this commercial mass production.

The overall architecture is inspired by 19th century Parisian architecture by Gustave Eiffel, Victor Baltard, and Baron Haussmann.

The mall was divided into four themed areas. This one, "Les Halles", with glass and metal constructions of Baltard. The "Passage Parisiens" were reminiscent of the shopping arcades of the 19th century. Also "Le Promenade", inspired by the Musée d'Orsay station and the Parisian boulevards. And "Les Terrasses", which offer a lush setting with vegetation and a fountain that evolve in a case of glass and cast iron. It hosts the food court, the first in France to be built as an American-style food court.

Medieval atmosphere in the historic city center (Capture of Brielle/Netherlands) - Medieval bustle but above all a very nice atmosphere in the historic city center. There is a lot to see, many people are dressed in medieval costumes and many stalls and terraces have been given a medieval atmosphere. The many streets, squares and quays are therefore busy, but then a pleasant bustle with medieval music, activities, crafts, food and catering, rightly an event on UNESCO size.

Capture of Brielle

April 1st, 1572 - the capture of Brielle by the Watergeuzen. A turning point in the uprising of the Low Countries against Spain in the Eighty Years' War. Militarily the success was minor as the port of Brielle was poorly defended by the Spanish, but it provided the first foothold on land for the rebels at a time when the rebellion was all but crushed, and it offered the sign for a new revolt throughout the Netherlands which led to the formation of the Dutch Republic.

The Watergeuzen were led by William van der Marck, Lord of Lumey, and by two of his captains, Willem Bloys van Treslong and Lenaert Jansz de Graeff. After they were expelled from England by Elizabeth I, they needed a place to shelter their 25 ships. As they sailed towards Brielle, they were surprised to find out that the Spanish garrison led by the Spanish "Iron" Duke of Alva protagonists was poorly defended. On the evening of April 1 in 1572, the 600 men sacked the port, rammed the city gates, defeated the Spanish soldiers and liberated Brielle as the first Dutch city in the Netherlands from de Spanish .

Nowadays a very popular annual UNESCO event with lots of Watergeuzen, Spanish soldiers and medieval dressed people in a city center all dressed up just like then on that historical day.

Beaumontois en Périgord

The village of Beaumontois en Périgord, a place where the medieval history is still present, a central village square with a covered market, surrounded by houses with gables with arches and an impressive church. The foundation of the bastide of Beaumont-du-Périgord begun by Luc de Thaney, Seneschal of Gascony, on the orders of the King of England, Duke of Aquitaine, Edward I, in 1272. By the treaty of Paris of 1259, between Louis IX and Henri III, King of England, the war between Capétiens and Plantagenêts ends and the King of England recognizes himself as a vassal of the King of France. The founding of Beaumont precedes that of the bastide town of Monpazier by twelve years. The king of England, duke of Guyenne, granted in 1288 to the inhabitants of the town certain privileges.

.

A special building in this village is the church, it begun at the end of the 13th century was not finished until the 14th century. The Beaumont Church does not appear to have suffered significant damage during the Hundred Years War or when the town of Beaumont was taken by Protestant troops in 1576, 1585 and 1587. The building is classified as a historical monument on April 8, 1909.
