Journaling:

1. I love watching Sarah run. She runs after her sisters, even when they’re not running, because her legs are shorter than theirs and she has to run to keep up. She runs when you call for her, just because she can. She runs from room to room, and I love to watch her little legs pumping and the joy on her face.

2. I love reading blogs on my iPad. I usually spend some time reading blogs in the morning with breakfast and after lunch with my tea.

3. I love that I’m finally beating Dave at a game of Words with Friends. He won the first two games after we put the app on our phones about two weeks ago. I hope that I finally win this game!

4. I love reading books with Laura in the afternoon when Sarah goes down for her nap. We call it “snuggle book time,” and we do just that, snuggle under a big blanket and read a bunch of books.

5. I love that the sun is finally out again. It seems like it’s been a long, cold, dark late winter/early spring so far and I’m just craving some warmth and sun.

6. I love when the house is clean after Jamie comes every other Wednesday, especially the wood floors, which always seem to show the dust first. Of course the whole-house clean doesn’t last long, but I love it for those few hours.

7. I love eating breakfast with the family, especially the time I get to spend with Emma after Dave takes the little girls to school. Of course, sometimes she’s too engrossed in comics on her iPhone (”Zits” is her favorite) to be very interactive, but sometimes I get a little glimpse into the young lady she’s becoming.

8. I love eating lunch in the porch. It was finally warm enough out there midday this week. Soon it’ll be warm enough at dinner time, too!

9. I love when the laundry is all sorted and both machines are humming away getting them clean and dried. Unfortunately, the folding and putting away is my least favorite step and that comes next.

10. I love reading books with Sarah before her nap. She understands so much, has her favorite books, and really gets into them. She loves “Baby, Baby!” and points at almost all the pictures. She makes some of the faces like the babies in the book and she puts her head to the side and “snores” on the page with the sleeping kitty.

these are the first shots from my nine day trip to british columbia and seattle, washington. expect a bunch more from this trip, but you'll have to be patient because I'm being slow in editing and uploading these days.

#4: airport aesthetic - the decor is horrible, and it smells bad. but the anticipation of a trip or visit makes me see airports in a different light.

Ok just a bit of info about this picture. I am in my grandparents bathroom, getting ready for bed. I have a silk sleeping hat on my head and I am in my nightgown. That is a persistent spot on my right cheek. Nothing like seeing a person in their most "base" form, eh? Nicole had asked me to tag 10 other people, but I always feel funny about doing that (don't hate me Nicole!!) I did tag one friend but I won't list who it is in the event that she doesn't want to participate. So consider this an open tagging of all my friends, but only if you want to play :)

Raw Chocolate Pie

Crust:

1 ½ cup – Pitted dates (let these sit in a bit of water to soften if necessary)

1 ½ cup – Brazil Nuts

Filling:

1 cup- Cacao Nibs finely ground (you can now get cacao powder!)

1 - Medium Yam

½ cup- Agave Nectar (I often used honey instead)

½ cup- cashews

½ cup - Coconut oil

1- Orange or other citrus fruit

1. Blend the dates and Brazil nuts in a food processor.

2. Press date/nut dough into pie tin to form crust.

3. Grind cacao nibs in blender or coffee grinder. May need to blend twice to form as fine a powder as possible.

4. Peel yam and blend in food processor until creamy.

5. Blend cashews in blender.

6. Combine cashews, cacao, coconut oil, yam and agave nectar and mix together.

7. Pour filling into pie tin and smooth out with spatula.

8. Use a zestor or sharp knife to scrape off some citrus rind and sprinkle on top of pie. Adds a nice scent and a little colour.

9. Decorate at will.

10. Put in refrigerator for a few minutes to firm up before serving.

E a rendermi felice...davvero tanto. ^_^

Grazie a tutti =)

I am a complete stationery junkie. People haven't asked what I'd like for my birthday since I was six...they just give me felt tips or marker pens or notebooks, and they know I'll be delighted. That's me...easily pleased. :)

i saw the flowers. they were on sale - $20 for three large pots. so i stopped with J-boy so we could grab some. flowers always make a space happier, warmer...and since the cold weather is beginning to nip at my toes more and more each day, flowers are in order. we got out of the car, walked to the table just by the sliding door of A&P and saw that the plants were semi-wilted, balding in some areas, tsk-tsk, i really wanted some. no matter. we'll find other booms somewhere, i told J.

we ended up buying ingredients for tinola and sinigang, two of my favorite signature Filipino soups. just perfect with freshly cooked white rice and maybe some patis and kalamansi. i was so excited to make them that i went straight from shopping to washing to cooking! i have never had fresher gabi/taro, bokchoy, sayote/chayote and the rest of the ingredients in my food as i'd normally wait 2-3 days...

i did catch this happy accident on my chopping board...as soon as i saw it, i knew it was the bloom i've been looking for. so before i tossed my find into the kitchen garbage bowl beside my sink, i whipped out my trusty point and shoot and clicked away.

ain't it the prettiest flower you've ever seen?! i surely think so!

l'autunno quest'anno mi rende felice.

tutte quelle foglie gialle.

e non è ancora arrivato l'inverno.

non c'è nulla che potrebbe rendermi più felice di questo

Arthur Ollman taught me for two years following the Ansel Adams workshop. He is now the Director of the School of Art and Design at San Diego State University, after serving 23 years as the founder and director of the Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego. Through his teaching and generous spirit, I learned so much and met so many notable photographers over the years. I can never thank him enough.

I love the wisdom and experience these two men gave me at a critical juncture in my life.

10 Things: The smell of whole coffee beans.

Sometimes I am so overwhelmed by coffee lust that I have to put freshly bought beans in a wine glass and inhale their oily aroma—like good-smelling soil and all the things about adulthood I looked forward to as a child.

The thing I interact with to interact with other THINGS. Important part of the day..

9/10 Things Project (October 2010)

© All rights reserved. Use without permission is illegal.

I was tagged by Jerry to post 10 things about me. I'm supposed to tag 10 more people, but I'll instead leave it up to any of my Flickr friends if you wish to participate. I hope some of you will post your top 10 ~ I really enjoy learning little tid-bits about you!

In no particular order, as they randomly popped into my head:

1. I collect rocks: I love fossils.

2. When I was a kid, I dreamed of being an astronaut, or an astronomer. Or both! But I

s-u-c-k at math, so...

3. I dig bugs, spiders, and snakes. Bees scare me, but I still think they're cool.

4. My Goddaughter is the light of my life.

5. Just recently, I began using the serial comma. I was always opposed to it, but now I'm a big fan. lol

6. I loves me some ketchup!

7. I do anonymous things for people to make them feel good. I love the whole concept of "pay it forward." I wish that everyone would practice it.

8. I have degenerative arthritis in my lower spine. Some days, it hurts like hell. But I refuse to complain.

9. I feel so lucky for every day I'm alive on this earth.

(are you still reading this boring list?!)

10. It doesn't take much to make me happy and/or laugh. I have a sarcastic and crude sense of humor, and am verrry easily amused.

11. One more for good measure: The following destinations are on my bucket list: Greece, Italy, the Galapagos Islands, and Africa. If I had to choose just one, it would most likely be Galapagos. Or Africa. Or Greece. Or Italy...

Now it's your turn. :)

I was tagged by Jacqui to post 10 random things about me. It's kind of odd that I'm posting a photo of myself in a hotel room that really relates nothing about myself, except that I'm visible in the mirror in one of my favorite cities, but here we go. Told in notes, so hover over the photo for more info.

I'm going to tag 10 people, so please share 10 random things about yourself too (but only if you'd like). No pressure.

(or: "playing in traffic, again")

one of my favorite things, spontaneous playtime with my husband, Harry.

(here is something fun to celebrate over 7000 views. it happened while we slept last night, which is terribly appropriate. )

1. i lived in Saudi Arabia for 3 years as a child. i loved it!

2. my husband and i "met" online. we were both members of a site for body modifications. we finally met in person, and now we're married with a little girl.

3. i hate spiders. i'm afraid of spiders. i think spiders are going to crawl into my mouth when i'm sleeping.

4. i've shaved my head for over 15 years. i keep trying to grow it out, but my trusty clippers are always there for me.

5. when i was a kid we had 13 cats at one point.

6. i got my first tattoo at the age of 13.

7. my ears ring...all the time. it started about a year ago.

8. i love to bake. i made my sister's wedding cake.

9. i took a semester of russian in college. i wish i had continued with both.

10. i'm an "indoor girl". i hate bugs, dirt, camping, all that kind of stuff. although i did camp out on my wedding night. go figure!

10 Things:

From a relatively dark site I managed to build this wonderful image of the Orion Nebula in the constellation of Orion.

this shot describes many of my favorite things: bright sunshine, old beach towns, empty streets (I had to wait while 2 curious men finally left the frame after it was clear I wasn't doing anything while they were there), the look of being on the edge of the world.

Lora and Heather are two of the most fabulous babes on this planet. Both of these wonderful women are kind, generous, wicked funny, and cute as the dickens. Oh, and talented. Very, very talented.

The three of us met online in 2002 through the BeadArt Forum. We hit it off right away, and although Heather was in California and Lora was in Kentucky, we still managed to get together and meet in person; talk, drink, bead, knit, and form a friendship that has lasted through the years. We've laughed and cried, supported each other through pregnancies and health crises, family troubles and emotional breakdowns. We've watched our kids grow from babies to toddlers to school age. We've celebrated each other's creative successes. And yes, we even saw the Nun Bun.

Over the past couple of years, as Sofia has grown bigger and requires more of my time and energy, I've unintentionally let a lot of important things fall away; unfortunately most of these involve my social life and my friendships. I miss Lora and Heather; miss the days of long cozy online chats and laughter. And I feel terribly guilty that I don't tell them often enough just how much they mean to me.

Recently, out of the blue, I received lovely thoughtful gifts in the mail -- Heather sent me two of her original ATCs on the right, exquisite little pieces of artwork I had seen on her stream and loved and commented upon. Lora sent me the hand-knitted headband on the left, a beautiful creation she made from a yarn that she found on etsy -- a yarn colorway with the most unlikely name of "Tamelyn," believe it or not. And I am touched and humbled and feel very blessed that even though at times I seem to have disappeared up my own rear end, these two amazing people still hold me in their hearts.

Galician homeschooling are in danger, you can read something more here and let your support in the facebook group apoyo a homeschoolers gallegos

.................................................................................................................................................

7.Non me gusta usar paraugas

I realized the other day that I never uploaded any of the images from a class exercise called "rocket ship". And I still have dozens of other images from that class that might make it here eventually too. :-)

The premise was you are leaving alone in a rocket ship for the rest of your life and you can take only 10 photographs with you to remind you of ... whatever. I took the class at MIT and you'd be amazed how many of those smart students photographed a full laid out deck of cards so they could play solitaire. :-))))

This one was supposed to be about coffee but I accidentally put too much milk in it and it looks decidedly like tea. :-( But the assignment required you take everything within 24 hours and I was going to be late for work, so had to settle on this one. i DO like that I caught the steam though, and the toast is the home-made anadama bread recipe I've been making for 20 years.

...........which by the way I worked on diligently from Thur - Wed WHEN.................................. I realized he was looking rather large! I measure his head and body to 23". The entire gorilla should have been 21" TOTAL...... hhhhmmmmm........... it seems as though there is a problem (...learning the hard way to check gauge!).

I figured out that I used the wrong size needle. How moronic. I had the head, body, and 3/4 of a leg complete when I figured this out. I'm now on row 15 of the body WITH THE CORRECT SIZE NEEDLES! ugh!!!!!!!!

:10 Things~

Making gifts for my babies!

10 Things:

Not a substitute for love but pretty damn close.

Just finished watching "Alice in Wonderland". Despite the negative reviews, I loved it. Then again, I love everything "Alice". As a child, that was my book of choice to lose myself in when things outside weren't much fun. It'll always hold a place in my heart.

Some weeks ago, I got tagged by two of my very talented contacts "Ohh Shh Its Jon" and "Danube66" (Check out their streams!) and I just realized it fairly recently.

So, in no particular order, here are ten facts about me.

1. I was born in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

2. My hair started to go grey when I was 18 years old. I let it go all the way when I was 39.

3. I celebrated my one year anniversary of being married to my best friend on March 23rd.

4. I haven't spoken to my biological mother in over a year.

5. I don't miss our relationship.

6. Despite being in my early 40's, there are times when I feel the exact same way I did when I was 10.

7. While sarcasm is too often my preferred method of commincation, I havne't lost my sense of wonder, and I do my best to let *it" be the stronger self.

8. I love to laugh, and I have a pretty warped sense of humour.

9. I spell it; tomatoe, potatoe, etc.

10. I've never not had a dog, or a cat.

If you've been tagged, feel free to play along...or not. :)

In response to the request of my Flickr friend, Maggie, here's a spontaneous portrait of me, taken by my wife . . .and ten random facts.

1. My favorite color is forest green.

2. I have two siblings with cerebral palsy.

3. I love Star Trek; my favorite series was Next Generation, and my favorite Star Trek movie was The Voyage Home.

4. I tell my wife that I would not have married her if she didn't like sauerkraut. I think she believes me.

5. Though I have lived on both coasts, I have never been outside the United States.

6. I would far rather camp in a tent than in a trailer.

7. Childbirth is the most amazing, and beautiful, event I have witnessed.

8. I am most disappointed when people erect barriers that divide one another. Community is one of my highest values.

9. I prefer country and classical music. Carrie Newcomer is one of my favorite singers.

10. I think gardening is good for the soul.

Love the ac unit just hanging out in the middle of this huge tile mosiac wall. Near 6th and South Street in Philly.

And here's my 365 from the 23rd. It's not very good. I warned you...

I was tagged, so here we go, ten more facts about me:

1. If I'm nervous, anxious, or afraid, knowing what time it is makes me feel better.

2. Sometimes when people ask me if I've heard of something famous, like a person or a TV show, I'll lie and say yes, I've heard of that.

3. Stop-motion movies fascinate me. I love them. I want to make one of own one day, but I don't have the time or the creativity.

4. I used to be really active, but I'm become quite lazy. Consequently, I've gained a lot of weight recently.

5. Before I call someone, even a good friend, I plan out what I'm going to say.

6. Sometimes I get in these moods where all I want to do is lie on my bed, stare at the ceiling, and think about life, death, God, etc.

7. I've self-diagnosed myself with tinnitus. It sucks.

8. I'm currently listening to: I Belong to You (New Moon Remix) - Muse

9. I save a lot of stuff. All my school newspapers, programs, ticket stubs, random bits of string, Christmas and birthday cards - you name it, I've saved it for the memories it holds.

10. Only 1 more day of school left, 6 exams left, and then SUMMERTIIIIIME! :D

I tagged some more people. Sorry for being annoying ;)

Finalmente la mia reflex!!

Buttercups blooming by the front door.

The Developmental Disabilities Institute in New York has been working hard. In their 10th anniversary year they have worked hard to show their support for our campaign to improve the health of people with learning disabilities.

They have also bee working with a learning disability nurse to discuss help and develop a better understanding within their community of the little things that make your choices healthier.

Found out more about our campaign HERE

one by one, turning white & I said there they go back to their home in the sky & he said how do you know that's where they're going & I said I don't, it's just where I would go if I were a white light.

~my own story person ;)

I was tagged by Leaca & Cory to tell ten things about myself, try not to get too excited...

1- I can’t stand dirty or long fingernails on men, it creeps me out.

2- I get obsessive when looking for something misplaced, sometimes rechecking the same spot I checked earlier as if miraculously it would appear there now (mildly OCD? or is that the definition of insanity?)

3- I have no idea how to text message, don’t care. I only just recently found out I can put a memory chip in my phone, so I did, what’s it for?

4- Addicted to Coconut Cream Coffeemate creamer, must have in my morning coffee, I find myself getting annoyed if my store is out when I’m there to get it. What's up with that?

5- I am a survivor, I think it's in my genes.

6- Photography has been my "hobby" since I was 14. After I graduated from college I worked as a retail sales manager in a camera/photo lab for a large retailer in our state.

7- My favorite junk food is Cheetos puffs, chips and salsa are a close second; chocolate of course has its own food group!

8- Hopefully my friends see me as a loyal trustworthy friend, I think I am.

9- I was the photo editor of my high school yearbook my senior year, woo hoo
