When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad
— Rodgers and Hammerstein
These -- piano and photography -- are two of my favorite things. While not perfect, they're a pretty good antidote to being alone on Thanksgiving ...

Some of my music is online and free to download. Looking at the above picture I see I was playing some variation of the song "broken."
Honored to be chosen for the Utata front page, week of December 5th.
I love old brick signage in forgotten downtowns.
For the 10 things group.
Finally got my piccie up. I was tagged by the lovely ‘Bunny*Lover ‘ and ‘Imafundork’
Thanks ladies :D The last time I was tagged I had to snap and go so this time I put a bit of slap on and tried to look presentable.
I always play safe and tag people I know so this time I am going to tag Flickr contacts I would like to know better. Milkywaysugar, Maidensuit, Threaddough, Steph.kaye, Steelapathy
Here are my 10 things.
1# I wish I had longer eyelashes and straighter teeth. If I had money I would get a brace.
2# My dream is to be self sufficient. We have just bought 2 pigs and we’re planning chickens next. I’ve started a veg patch in the back garden.
3# I used to be a Special Police Constable and I loved it. I left when I moved to Norfolk and I would love to do it again. One of my ambitions is to drive a police car, I left just before I was due to take my driving course :*(
4# I love American Crime and Supernatural dramas my favourites are CSI, CSI Miami, CSI New York, Bones, Mentalist (I have a crush on Simon Baker), Fringe, Medium, Supernatural and Ghost Whisperer.
5# I collect My Little Ponies. Lots of them lol. I have a whole room decorated with clouds that houses my collection (and other 80’s toys). My poor husband has to sit in there to use his computer lol. I decked it out with MLP curtains, lightshade, switchplate, rug, clock, notice board and bean bag. 3 bookcases display the collection. I’ll take pictures one day.
6# I smile A LOT! I think this is why I look younger than I am. I’m 30 and I got asked for ID in the pub yesterday.
7# I love being silly. I do little dances, sing little songs, make silly faces and do silly voices all for the benefit of my hubby Rob. I am like a precocious show child in front of a camera lol.
8# I love having hobbies. Apart from Blythe and My Little Pony, I do Flamenco dancing, Historical Re-enactment and I just joined an Amateur Dramatics society.
9# I am at a crossroads in my life career wise. I trained as a costume maker and have worked in Theatre for 10 years. I am considering MA Textiles to get some of my own creativity out, I feel I have just been a manufacturer of other people’s designs.
10# I love a drink now and again, then again, and again and again. Cider Mmmm. My favourite brands and Aspalls, Bulmers, Magners and Strongbow. Usually Aspalls as it’s local to East Anglia.
Gratitude....for that small spot of sunshine in the darkness and the ability of my eyes and heart to discern it. I am grateful for so many things. Happy Thanksgiving to all my flickr family and friends.
10 Things:
Just trying out the new 85mm f/2 AI-s lens. This is wide open at f/2. I love the bokeh on this and the foreground is pretty sharp, too.
10 Things: Duh.
I tell you, I was that proud when I realized I could use a pretty teapot as a bookend. On the shelf above I'm using a little clay mask Ross made of a smiling man. It works equally well and makes me smile just as much.
I love the ions in the atmosphere right after a heavy rain. Puddles on pavement have great reflections.
For the 10 things group.
Sembra tutto diverso da lassù. Dimentichi i pensieri, dimentichi i problemi, ti senti leggera e spensierata.
P.S.: ancora con questi toni. ahahah scusate, tornerò colorata al più presto! :D
Per favore, nei commenti, niente immagini o grandi icone. Grazie.
Not big icons or images in comments, please. Thanks.

Another one from the archives. The camera is a better eye than our own. We only see a faint glowing haze, but the camera's sensor (or film) can record much more light, fainter than our physical capabilities can achieve.
Il bello della letteratura è che il giorno in cui il tuo autore preferito ti delude è lo stesso in cui il piu improbabile ti stupisce :D

I love dogs. I love them for the joy they take in almost everything they do, and for their absolute disregard for dignity. I love them for the diversity of their personalities, and for their unwavering and unconditional affection. I love them for their razor-sharp intelligence and for their utter stupidity. I love dogs for their simplicity.
Dogs are always worth the trouble.
Don't know much about your life.
And I don't know much about your world.
I used this stock on top at a low opacity.
I saw Kai's photo and decided, since I was tagged, to combine my 365 and the ten fact note below. Those of you whom I tagged and have done this before or simply aren't interested in doing this, don't worry about it. : ) I wish I could add more of you, but the rules state to select only ten flickries. : (
1. I am of Russian origin. All of my relatives reside there, except for my parents and I. I'd also like to mention that immigrating to Canada 7 years ago was possibly the best decision my parents have made to this point, besides starting this family. I love it here. Thanks, mum and dad. : )
2. I got my first, and only, SLR mid-August 2009. Thus, I have been using it for around 6 months up to this point. However, most of my progress was made during my 365 project. Those of you considering starting one, I really advise you to! : D
3. I come from a musical background. I play piano, saxaphone, and sing. I listen to a variety of music in my spare time, and like to chat about newly-found artist with just about anyone.
4. If I could be any animal, I would be a cat. There is such a pleasant aura about them, and they are so graceful, and carefree.
5. I love the television series Glee. My favourite movie is Moulin Rouge.
6. I spell favourite, colour, and centre the way I do because I'm Canadian. And I take offense to Microsoft Word who feels the need to correct me every time I do. Haha.
7. I have a passion for oriental cultures. I listen to a lot of Korean music, watch Japanese dramas, and really enjoy Chinese food.
8. I am going on a testimonial spree soon. So please check occasionally for any new testimonials, guys. ; )
9. I really love to cook. I'm hoping to find another recipe from Mastering the Art of French Cooking and bring it to life in the near future. I got the book for Christmas from a close friend of mine, and I've been so excited to use it ever since. : )
10. I dream a lot at night. The craziest fantasies take over once I fall asleep. I attempt to recreate them in my photos one at a time. Hopefully, by the end of this project I will have enough experience and knowledge to bring just about any idea to life. : )
Wow, that was a lot of writing. I hope I didn't put you to sleep!
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!!!
While I stay in bed all morning, I glance to the right and see that not a single doubt - not the slightest hard feeling - can keep the nature of things from winning.
my new 2009-moleskine is red! and it's so new and virgin. *sigh*
I love to start new diaries as I used to love the beginning of a new school year. I always wanted to keep flawless excercise books.... and I always failed.
;-)
10 things: new, beautiful, empty, flawless and clean diaries. at least for some days...
The less time I spent with other women, the less I had to feel like not much of one.
I was uncomfortable in and around myself. Hating myself for not being as graceful as they were or as mysterious or feminine.
I was bitter - hopelessly.
I used to trick myself and everyone else - I threw pride around like it was something I deserved. Proud of being a woman as if I had done it on my own.
It all felt wrong to me, until I realized that if I didn't abuse pride, it wouldn't abuse me.
Becoming friends with other women because I got along with them (as oppossed to befriending them for my own secret research like I had always done before) completely turned my brain inside out and before long, I realized that I was a woman too.
I could be graceful and mysterious and all of that. It wasn't an experiment anymore. It was a celebration.
The woman attached to legs you see above came into my life sometime around the end of my "breaking out of my shell" party.
She was the icing on top and I'm proud to be her friend.
Explored #94 on January 2, 2010 ----> Oh, thank you so much everyone!
I have been tagged by the lovely Westsidebeadery {Barb}. Now I must list 10 things you may not know about me...
1) I am a collector of sorts: my collections include Lucille Ball memorabilia, Audrey Hepburn memorabilia, books (novels, art books, cook books, coffee table books: I have over 500 titles), owl items, decorative cups, and coats.
2) In the second grade my teacher yelled at me in front of everyone for not writing in complete sentences, waded up my paper, threw it in the trash and made me go back to my seat and start the assignment all over again. From that moment on (up until middle school) I would start crying any time I didn’t understand something right away for fear of messing up or looking stupid. I am still a stresser and a perfectionist to this very day.
3) I want a dwarf bunny. Please, someone get me a dwarf bunny. I have checked out so many books on owning them from the library and have fallen in love. I think he/she would be the perfect pet to keep me company in an art studio (Claude, my cat, would get into too much mischief).
4) In my senior year of high school of was voted Youth of the Year by the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce and was in a parade where I rode on top of a Porsche with my name on the side.
5) I have a horrible time sleeping. I always have so much running through my mind. I am also very sensitive to sound and light and if it isn’t completely quiet and pitch black it’s impossible for me to sleep. I even have sleeping pills that I take but I hate relying on them (besides, they don’t always work for me).
6) I love cooking, ESPECIALLY baking and if I wasn’t an artist and had decided for that to be my career path I think I would have become a baker and would have specialized in decorating cakes. Other dream careers of mine include being a Disney Princess (I swear, if they called me up right now to be Ariel or Snow White I would hop right on a plane immediately), a librarian (which I declared to my parents at the age of five due to my love of reading), Fashion Designer, children’s book illustrator (which I’m diligently pursuing), Zoologist (I absolutely love animals) and Broadway Musical star (Sadly, I cannot sing or dance).
7) For those of you who follow my stream, you know I have been waiting for my CBEST scores to come in. Well guess what everyone... I passed each section with flying colors!! You needed a total score of 123 and I achieved a 154. I am a HORRIBLE test taker so you can't even begin to imagine how happy I was at the news! Thanks to everyone who sent out brainy vibes to me that day. Now I please ask you to do it again the morning of January 9th because that is when I will be taking my Praxis Tests (but more on that later).
8) I took piano lessons for 11 years but hardly ever play anymore (I hate performing in front of people). It is a dream of Cory’s to get me a lovely piano someday so we can accompany each other: Him, plucking the guitar strings and me, tickling the ivories.
9) As much as I adore fashion and dressing up, I would wear pajamas all the time if I could.
10) I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis a little over a year ago. I write a blog about my experiences dealing with this chronic condition. I have a medication/vitamin organizer that features every day of the week on it and has a side for AM pills and a side for PM pills. It makes me feel like such a little old lady.
So, now I must tag 10 others. If you're tagged, make a list of ten things that we don't know about you! Even if you aren't tagged, I would love for you to participate! I can't wait to read them! (Also, if you have already been tagged OR do not wish to participate just message me so I can remove you and pick someone else) :)

I know, another portrait of jasper. but he's so pretty.
b&w version below
*if the others get 10 things, we all get 10 things.
Ten things about me, Jasper
1. I am an alpha wannabe. (even tho' mom doesn't believe in the alpha thing) I want complete order in the house. but Jones doesn't listen.
2. I am beautiful. but I don't really know it. mom tells me, but it's not important. (I'd rather that everyone behave and that I would get all the pets)
3. I would have been a perfect only-dog.
4. I could get loves and pets 24 hours a day and still want more. I can't get enough.
5. I am 11 years old and kinda creaky like my dad and mom. sometimes I slip and fall when I'm playing rough, and I run to mom for loves.
6. I love food and I'm grabby. I try to keep Schubert and Gracie in line. and I bark at any humans who visit us. (I even bark when mom goes for the cookies.)
7. I play mostly with Jones; he's the baby of the house.
8. I don't leap over fences like Schubert. I run and bark at the horses next door, and the cows, and the JR terrier, but mostly I love my humans.
9. I'm the leader of the pack, or I try, and I'm basically aloof from the rest of the dogs.
10. I am the controller of the house. or I'd like to be. like most dogs I'm sensitive---to humans mostly. and I'm sweet, but don't tell anyone.

7/10 - Photography
I'm sure it's not very hard to tell that I love photography. Well, sometimes it can be a love/hate relationship, especially when photoshop takes forever to process things or I'm just not getting the kind of photo I want for whatever reason. But for the most part it's more 'love' than 'hate' ^_^
In this photo is one of my old cameras that I got at the end of 2001. I used to it take this photo, which was the original photo I used for the side by side comparison of downtown Petaluma
La mia palla di pelo è stata tosata! E quando viene tosato io lo amo ancora di più perchè è più "maneggevole" e sembra un cucciolo ♥

One of the interesting properties of film is that bright, extended objects spread. Compare the central flare of the left satellite trail and the brighter stars with this digital photo.
Yesterday around sunset there was the brightest rainbow I've seen yet over the Columbia. The locals pay them no mind....I'm still mesmerized by them.

8/10 - Sewing
Aside from knitting I also like to sew. Ok, so the largest thing I have ever sewn was a long skirt, and that's a fairly simple pattern, but I still enjoy it any way. I normally like to make small things, like tea cozies and cute little gift bags. Also, like I do with yarn, I like to go to Good Will to find old clothes with nice fabric and salvage it. I like being thrifty ^_^

:10 things:
1. Saturday mornings spent reading the Globe & Mail, savouring a pain au chocolat from Manuel Latruwe Patisserie and sipping a triple shot latte from Cafe Beano. Soon, we will have our own Italian espresso machine and I'll be able to make my own triple lattes.
I'm always in the weeds. I think I like it there. I might tell you otherwise but that's the truth... I like being busy.
So, just because John tagged me, I guess I'll give this a go. Tagging means so much more now!
So, here are 10 things:
1) May is always a crazy month. This one is no exception with out 10-year wedding anniversary, mother's day and my birthday all falling within a 9 day range.
2) I really love riding my bike. It makes me happy. Yes, I have 3 bikes, but they each have a function. I especially like the fast one... it ZOOMS
3) My 2 boys are the most wonderful gift I have ever received. They are just hilarious and frustrating and wonderful and crazy... and I can't wait to meet their little sibling this fall ;-)
4) I really do like being in the weeds, both metaphorically and literally. Green things that grow are happy, even if they weren't planned.
5) I feel like I'm forgetting my Arabic, because I have no way of practicing it. I really wish I had enough confidence to just speak it around the house with the boys. I do read them bedtime stories in Arabic, though.
6) I keep "forgetting" to return my brother's 5D body to him. I really probably should stop forgetting that.
7) I wish I got to see more sunrises and sunsets. I usually miss those as they are the busiest times of my day.
8) I'd like to puclic-ly thank Sarah Lynch for helping me make my 10 year anniversary present to my husband so special ;-) She's awesome!
9) I'd like to point out that my husband is tall, handsome, and hot, and he's MINE ALL MINE!!!
10) When I grow up, I want to live in Italy. But not near Pompeii. Nothing personal but I prefer the wines from a little further north. And you should never mix wine and driving :-)
Now.... who should I tag...
I've been tagged by the talented Sigi K.
10 things . . . (that i should be making up because i'm a private person, and because projecting an illusion would be much more entertaining than the reality!)
i hate these things, but here goes:
1) I worry too much. About everything
2) I'm intensely curious
3) I wish I believed in myself more
4) I really wanted to be a painter, but alas . . .
(maybe that has in part to do with #3)
5) I have a twin brother. I think I might be closer with the mailman
6) Years ago I asked a good friend of mine - a well-known artist in DC - if I
was "weird enough" to be an artist. He said "absolutely." I was never more
proud
7) I am sensory driven
8) When I dream I'm almost always on the outside looking in at myself
9) my camera allows me to reveal things that I might not normally express
10) I just realized I shared way too much personal info for such a shy
person
• i will not tag anyone. play along if you'd like to be a part of the "cool" crowd!
The latest post is up at 10 Things. As one might expect, this month's edition has a considerably heavy Korean flavor.
For my birthday, my sweet cousin Noreen sent me three boxes of my favorite Vanilla Almond tea by Bigalow. I love it when people take such care in wrapping gifts!

4/10 - Knitting - My Knitting Projects on ravelry
I enjoy knitting a lot, gives me something to do when I sit outside to enjoy the weather or just feel like taking a break from my computer. It's also a lot of fun to knit while listening to The Horror! (Old Time Radio) ^_^
Another thing that I've been really into is salvaging old sweaters from goodwill for their yarn. I've gotten some really nice yarn this way for a fraction of what it would cost me to go out and buy it from the crafts store.
