In 2013 We’re Prioritising Improving Learning Disability Health As a charity run by and for people with learning disabilities, we can’t help to be motivated by the big things affecting the lives of our members, and they don’t come any bigger than health!
Our lovely neighbours Obergine created this infographic to leave you in no doubt about the scale of the problem for the learning disabled community. As a charity we’re going to do 10 things in 2013 to improve the health of the learning disabled community.

i've been tagged a couple times to do one of those "10 things about me" photos:
i feel anxious going into crowded places and not knowing if i am welcome
when i was younger i had to share a room with my sister, but then God blessed my parents with great jobs and now we live on separate floors
when i was a little boy my nick name was "Phaphy"
I am a thief - i steal mints from Boston Pizza & The Keg. I'm sure they know who i am because of that.
I love God more than anything. he is my best friend, my father, my everything.
don't be hatin'
I forget names easily, remember faces, but forget where we met
i tend to relate music to certain times in my life. i have to be careful in listening to certain songs when i am sad, i tend to never listen to those again.
my love languages are Quality Time and Words of Affirmation
i try to find the best in everyone, first hand judgements are the worst
i am caring and i really do try my best to show the love of God to everyone i meet, sometimes i slip up and make a few mistakes. but all in all i think that i am doing well in my mission to be the "salt of the earth."
In the evening, after errands have been run and the workday is over, I look forward to hanging out at home and changing into my jammies. The act of taking off my regular clothes and putting on something soft and loose and cozy symbolizes for me the casting off of the demands of the world and slipping into my comfort zone.
I have many different sets. most of which are bright and ridiculously patterned, but the sock monkey jammies are my absolute favorite.

cwd651: Spring
Indian Pass Campground. April. It has been 6 long months since we were last here.
In my line of work, there are two seasons: sampling and not sampling. Right now, the trees are budding, the grass is green, the water is warming, and the sharks are back in the coastal waters of the Florida panhandle.
Being at Indian Pass Campground signifies the onset of Spring more than any blooming flower or an afternoon of yard work ever could.
It is back to the field. It is back to the sharks.
This is my Spring.

2 – Buddhist Temples in Seoul & in Korea.

Greed...give me more music!
I love my ipod!!! Everyone in my house has some form of an ipod and they love their ipods!!!
I put mine in a dock and dance around the house while I am cooking, cleaning, flickring (is that a word?), and just about anything else. My kids hate it when my husband I dance around the house...that is just a bonus!!! :-)
First aid.
I'll take the injections with three-inch needles into my lower back, I'll take the handfuls of analgesics and I'll even take how ridiculous I look with a hot-water bottle strapped to my arse. As long as I can have my raspberry jello – the only thing that truly helps against the pain of a busted back.

#1) Little Baby Plants -
With their delicate green heads peeking out of the dirt, soaking up sun and needing so much water, they show growth every day and make me feel like a good gardener. I talk to them every morning.
I've been tagged by Ciscolo
1 This photo is a from a deck of cards of my team at work, card #1 drew the cartoons of us and I shrunk, copied and laminated them to the cards for a fellow teammate that was deployed to Iraq. We played cards at lunch every day long story... started with a friend and coworker who was loosing her battle with Cancer so we played an hour to get her mind off things and continued even after...
2. I am the +2 card
3. I hate my photo taken
4. I am a very private person so this is really tough.
5. I met my husband when I was 16.
6. We have one son,
7. I work in a field usually reserved for Men.
8. I fight against making friends, once you are my friend I would go to the end of the earth for you.
9. Love my fur kids,
10. Wish my fur kids were better trained... still working with Nadja and seeing Niko picking up Nadja's bad behaviors... grrr... tough with two very stubborn dogs.
10 Things:
From the provincial edge of an atlas from the hem
of a frayed empire, a man stops. Not for another anthem
trembling over the water—he has learnt three of them—
but for that faint sidereal drone interrupted by the air
gusting over black water, or so that he can hear
the surf in the pores of wet sand wince and pucker.

10 Things: Knowing that change is coming.
I've been feeling a bit exhausted by life lately, which always happens when I've got a bunch of work due that I've been procrastinating over. Also, as you know, the weather around here has been abysmal lately and I haven't been at all interested in taking my camera out with me when I can barely see straight walking through gusty winds with my glasses speckled with rain.
I know that calmer days are coming, though. Calmer, and more stressful, and lovelier, and sadder, and definitely sunnier. So even if I have to wait, I know I'll soon be wearing this smile on my own face.
P.S. Today I woke up early to go to a doctor's appointment that didn't exist -- it's not until July 17th. The receptionist looked at me with an expression of mingled pity and concern. But at the end of the day I walked through the grey bluster of Boston with two sweet colleagues to get my free ice cream cone from Ben and Jerry's, and that was good.
Then I dropped the last bit of my cone on the floor.
Just another day.
For my 10 things this month
I have not had this duvet on my bed in a while. I forgot how much I liked it. I love fresh linens.

Slip into your skin and spend the night
and get out of mine...
Be a blanket for my bones
Be a place that I call home
Slipped into your skin and spent the night
Cause I feel like a different man
I feel it when I'm with you.
One of my ten things is Byron Bay. Though usually an ocean and a nice beach are enough to dazzle me, Byron Bay has a special place in my heart.
I can't promise this will be the last one. It was just an awesome time there.

"dammi un foglio bianco io ne faccio un pezzo nuovo
datemi un maestro e diventerò un allievo
datemi un martello apparirà di certo un chiodo
datemi un motivo e troverò di certo un modo
datemi un pennello e prima o poi nascerà un quadro
dammi una serratura e apparirà un ladro
taglio l’equilibrio e cercherò di equilibrarmi
cambiami lo spazio e troverò come adattarmi"

:8. Singing along with Elizabeth Mitchell, watching the little boy smile, and wanting to cry and still sing and still see him smile without letting him see me cry.
I love going out to my garden (read: potted plants on my deck) and finding the very first signs of life. First, the impossibly small bits of green shooting up from the soil, unfurling to drink in the sun. Then, the snug flower buds, bringing a hint of color before unfurling into their blooms.
I love birthdays! I got a cake and champagne for breakfast. and now I have to hurry, because I'm expecting some friends this evening for dinner.
10 things: it's my birthday!
While Greek and Western cosmology ascribe beauty to Venus (goddess of erotic love), the Chinese called the planet "Grand White" and its ghostly colour was perceived to be ominous. The ancient Mayans feared Venus, associating it with the feathered snake, Quetzalcoatl, who's bright rays of light were like spears to impale his enemies with.
I drive by here almost every time I go into Philadelphia, I love the look of these buildings all stacked up behind the graffiti'd wall. Lucky for me, my husband was driving (sitting in traffic) on the Schuykill and I had a chance to take several shoots before the cars moved.

I realized yesterday I never uploaded any of the images from a class exercise called "rocket ship". And I still have dozens of other images from that class that might make it here eventually too. :-)
The premise was you are leaving alone in a rocket ship for the rest of your life and you can take only 10 photographs with you to remind you of ... whatever. I took the class at MIT and you'd be amazed how many of those smart students photographed a full laid out deck of cards so they could play solitaire. :-))))
This one was because I would miss making things with my hands.
Taken in rainy London. It was November, but I still loved it there. This is one of my favorite shots from there. :)
I've photographed these chairs and that wall (and the wall opposite it) a million times. The light comes in all lazy and lingers for the longest time, then just disappears. Even on cold days, this little nook is relatively warm. It's one of my favorite places to sit.
i took my cue from anne-marie and did the "take a photo of yourself right at this moment" challenge. the only problem is that i saw her photo at work and couldn't just whip out the camera. i count myself lucky that i did not have to do a morning or late-night photo...but this is right when i came home from work and i felt just as weary as if it WERE late at night.
also i was tagged by caitlyn the other day for 10 more things about me! i'll try to keep them short:
1. when i was writing my senior paper in college, i had the movie girl with a pearl earring playing in the background on my computer over and over and over.
2. i think i get that whole seasonal affective disorder thing...i get so moody in the winter. and then the sun comes out, and i feel like a whole new person. see this
3. i watch tv shows like "gangland"....i find gangs and gang mentality fascinating. same with religious cults.
4. i'm always falling asleep during movies, yet i know movie trivia.
5. during lent this year, i'm focusing on being more positive. last year i gave up caffeine. never again.
6. i drive a stick-shift...i can do many things while shifting. but for some reason i've recently become very anxious when i stop on a hill and have to shift from 1st gear. like VERY anxious.
7. i have a terrible habit of pulling at my eyebrows when i get stressed. you can tell.
8. i don't like tomatoes. ("and you call yourself part-italian")
9. we stayed at a beach house once that was entirely palm tree-themed. it was tasteful, but now whenever i see anything with palm trees i think "that would go great in that beach house!"
10. my new camera bag is actually a diaper bag--black and polka-dotted. you'd never know i was carrying a camera kit in there. (anyone want a gently-used regular camera bag?)
happy monday night..1 day down, 4 to go!
I got tagged by Reflecting Memories the other day to post a list of 10 things about myself. I believe this round is 10 things that we are OCD about. Here are 10 of my obsessions and compulsions:
1) under garments: they have to match each other and at least somehow coordinate with my outer garments. When they don't it bugs me.
2) kneading: I knead my feet like a cat when I go to bed. I can't help it. It's just something I need to do.
3) clutter: I cannot stand piles of "stuff" lying around. It drives me crazy. Since I am so busy with school during the week, I usually reclaim my space first thing every weekend. (My mother on the other hand, is a clutter bug. She is my babysitter).
4) details: I fixate on details. I will spend hours trying to fix some little flaw that others probably wouldn't even notice.
5) food: I LOVE good food. I could think about it, eat it, talk about it, cook it all day. When I had cable I watched Food Network most of the time. My children have never had Hamburger Helper, and I think that is a good thing.
6) photographs: Not sure I need to clarify this one. You are all on Flickr too;)
7) hygiene: I was a server for a long time, so I wash my hands A LOT. I cannot stand being next to people with B.O. (or too much perfume). Obviously, I try my best to not be the smelly one. I am a bit of a germaphobe when it comes to public bathrooms.
8) licking my lips: I always have to have lip gloss or chapstick on my lips. I will lick them constantly if they are dry. Yep, my lips are usually chapped.
9) music: I usually have music playing. If a song really speaks to my current mood, I will listen to it over and over again.
10) textures: I am touchy feely. I love soft fabrics. I love the feel of cool, damp grass on my bare feet. I'm like a little kid that always has to touch things to look at them;)
I'm fortunate to have many good friends. I am especially thankful for the ones that ALWAYS have a cold beer the thier fridge!
10 Things: June
I lit this with a couple of inexpensive LED flashlights. One is inside the box while I waved the other around on the outside trying to light specific areas. The whole thing is sitting on an old mirror.
One of the greatest songs ever. Not really related, but had to share.
Okay, I was tagged to tell everyone 10 things about myself. Geesh louise. But I'm a good sport & loved Marie's so I'll play. :)
1. I used to be a total neat freak. I cleaned the house top to bottom every single weekend, in addition to all the stuff I did every day. I would even dust all the moldings in the house. That was before the children. Now I'm lucky if the laundry's caught up & all the dishes are done. Super lucky. Since it happens once a month. And by once a month I mean it's happened twice in the last 5 years.
2. I love dance hall music. L-O-V-E it. It's how I psyche myself up to go to work in the mornings. Without it my life would have way less meaning and my world would come crashing down to the pits of utter & total despair.
3. I can play the ukulele. Sorta kinda. I know some chords but I find the strumming technique kinda tricky. I've tried over and over again to record videos of me playing & singing, but when there's a camera on me I forget everything I know. And when I watch it back I'm shocked by the chubby person on the screen. In my head I'm still the size 12 I was in high school. I can't face reality.
4. I have too many pet peeves to name. I'm a highly irritable person and it drives my family insane. My number one annoyance: mouth noises. This includes noisy eating, my children grinding their teeth at night, gum smacking, and even the way my husband swallows when he's drinking. The day they learn their dirty clothes belong in the hamper by the washer just a mere few feet away is the day I'll stop being annoyed by their noisy disgusting habits.
5. I love to read, but if a book doesn't totally capture me within the first three chapters it's shelved to never be picked up again. Sometimes I wonder if I have adult ADD. I have the attention span of a gnat. It's why I have ten zillion failed craft projects sitting around.
6. I'm extremely cold natured. My husband's extremely hot natured. It's a constant source of stress in our marriage.
7. I've had the urge to paint my fingernails robin's egg blue for about a week now. Actually going to the store and shelling out the dollar on the polish? Highly unlikely.
8. If you didn't notice from #7, I'm cheap. Really really cheap. To say that I'm tight fisted would be a serious understatement. Except when it comes to coffee. Then all bets are off & I'll totally spend the $4 on the crap down the street I could definitely make at home.
9. I've breastfed a total of 56 months all together. My nipples are exhausted.
10. I kinda wanna change my name. I have friends who have changed their names by just telling people to call them something differently. I'm too shy and introverted to do anything like that though. Telling people my name the first time brings on pit sweat. And I wouldn't know what to call myself. I want an adorable androgynous name like Billie or Ronnie. Or a name that brings to mind a skinny redhead with ringlet curls playing a banjo in a grassy meadow...something like Caroline or Autumn. Granted Vanessa's a beautiful name, but the fact that my dad's name is Van and I was named after him kinda takes the charm out of it.
& there's my 10. Whee!
I'm gonna go bake & do dishes now...

One thing I would definitely is was my frequent walks (with a camera- but of course!) and Mount Auburn Cemetery is my favorite place to do it ... generally monthly. And since I had to take these all in a single day- which meant taking this one after work- I couldn't avoid the fact that "it was a dark and stormy night".
