Well here it is, a milestone for me as i didnt even think i would make it to 10, let alone 100.

I have spent about 6 or 7 hours doing this, lol, thank god i had a day off today, he he

I never realised i would ever have enough changes of clothes to do this, he he.

This young men i saw standing at a big door.

Just waiting and hearing music.

When I approached him it was typical for people with headphones…

they don’t understand nothing 

After he took of his headphones I could explain the project a second time

and he agreed immediately.

I never got a regret when I asked people with headphones. Its funny

but it worked everytime.

I bought a coffee and a cake from the market in Cambridge as a wee treat. For a few months I've been between jobs, but things seemed to be making a turn around (and as it happens, it did - I'm no longer looking!). I joined Thea and Graham on a bench in the square and chatted about Australia (where they are from), their various travels (which all sound exciting) and a bit about myself. They were so warm and friendly, a stark contrast to the generally "keep yourself to yourself" attitude that often prevails on the street. Both agreed to a portrait, but only one can make the project and I have chosen Thea through a coin toss.

I stopped in front of the graffiti, pulling my camera out. He asked if I wanted to take a photo, I asked if he wanted to be in my photo and he nodded yes.

"what's your name?" I whispered quietly.... "Dean", he said with a smile.

DAY 100! Yay!

This was supposed to be 100 Emilys, but I found that 100 is a very big number, so it's now 50 Emilys with 100 eyes. A few of those eyes are hidden, but they still count. I'm not willing to spend a whole week cutting and pasting.

I had Emily pose at various levels so we could have the standing, bending, kneeling, sitting, and lying down people, rather than a bunch of standing people staggered at different levels.

These are all different, so if you want to see all the expressions, View Large On Black.

Jack (19) was just standing against the right hand side lion in front of the Council House. Only too pleased to be snapped. Currently at Nottm Uni studying Civ Eng. The way he was just waiting around and fiddling with his iPod drew me towards him. Oh, also his hat and red hair!

I saw this man from a distance talking with some other men and I thought: "Wow, he's great, an aged black man, with a pigtail of white hair!". But I was on the phone with my brother and I let him go. Luckily he stopped again few meters later in front of a man recycling and re-painting an old wood table. I came by and I stopped too, without saying anything. I thought it was a hard job to get a picture of him.

He said "Hi!". I said "Hi!". He smiled me saying: "We don't have to throw away things, we must recycle them! It's a fortune there are people who throw them away so we can pick them up!". I agreed with my head and a smile but didn't say anything. "What is your name?", I asked after a couple of minutes. "Ban Maharaj", he answered, "I'm a Hindu spiritual father. I belong to the Hare Krishna movement" he added. "It would be nice if I could take a portrait of you", I hazarded. "Why?", he asked. "Now comes the hardest part ...", I thought. "Because I'd like to win my shyness, and since I like photography I'd like to do that using a camera, that helps me to talk with people that I don't know. There there's a project called 100 Strangers and ...". I must have scored a hit because he stopped me saying: "It's enough, you can take the photo", but being a spiritual father used to speak a lot, he added many other things: he's native of Suriname but he's been living in Rome since 38 years, he's a master of Bakhty Yoga and he had to fight against his shyness too when he was younger because he had to speak in front of thousands of people. To do that he had to transcend the materiality of things. I'm not sure I caught the whole concept ...

Before going away he asked me if I had family: I answered I was going to pick up the kids at school, so he said: "You're a good father", and blessed me.

Thanks a lot Ban Maharaj for participating in my project! It's been touching to talk with you!

Eldrin 23/100 - While walking around the Bayou Boogaloo looking for strangers, I decided that I should take a photo of Chongo. I started a new project called "Los Viajes de Chongo" - Chongo's Travels. My youngest son had asked me to take one of his stuffed monkeys on my trips and to take photos of his adventures. I didn't want to take the original Chongo with me, so I took a Chongo Bubba - same stuffed monkey, not real Chongo.

So, I placed Chongo Bubba on the pier and took some photos.

I turned around and this couple was smiling at me. The man asked me what I was doing, so I explained to him about my project. I smiled, then told him about 100 Strangers. He immediately agreed to let me take his photo.

Meet Eldrin. His main job is as a FedEx driver. So, I asked him to tell me the funniest or craziest thing he has seen. Eldin immediately told me that people will traffic the craziest things. Drugs, money .... anything. He said that some people will send their ex husband or wife momentoes that they have torn up! How mean is that!

I asked Eldrin what he likes to do and he said likes to write poetry. Here is a sample of his prose ...

Flickr people meet Peter. My 21st stranger!

Approaching him in the shade he was working furiously on some paper work during his lunchbreak, I almost felt sorry for him (working whilst I played Ü).

He was happy to help me and it will work well for him to. He had no photos of himself and I'll be sending him a copy of this!

It's great when things work out, I get another image for my project and he gets the photo of himself he was looking for.

Meet Carl, I met him while waiting for technical difficulties to be resolved at a building inspection my company was to perform in Hoboken, NJ. I was there to take photos of the team dropping down a 28 story building in a window washers scaffold system.

While waiting for those problems to be sorted out I was just looking around and took a few shots of the NYC skyline from the waterfront park in front of the building we were to inspect. While sitting there I noticed Carl. He was just sitting watching people go by and was also watching me with my camera gear. I had seen this 100 Strangers group before and thought it would be good for me to get involved with to improve my portrait skills. I figured, why not start now? So I got up off the bench and approached this stranger. I introduced myself and told him of the project, I then asked if he would consider allowing me to photograph him for this group project and he agreed.

We mostly discussed his life and background, I pretty much just asked questions like an interview and he told me about himself. Carl is 63 years old, was born in Bremmerhaven, Germany. I told him of my early years as an Army brat and how when I was 12 half my life was spent in Germany as well. At which point he told me his father had been in the U.S. Army as well and had met his mother while stationed in Germany. Nature took it's course and he and his brother were the result. Unfortunately, Carl is currently unemployed and homeless and has lost touch with his brother and family over the years. He did get around a lot in his earlier years and had lived in Maine and Washington state and had many different jobs over the years. He said he drove trucks for years and had also been a scuba instructor for 15 years. It had been a passion of his and told me that I should try it. I said my photography was expensive enough as I have several friends who also scuba and know it is quite expensive as well. Carl also told me he was interested in photography years ago and was admiring my gear, he guessed pretty close to what mine cost which kind of surprised me. He then gave me some tips on the location we were at. He said in the early morning just as the sun rises the buildings of lower Manhattan light up with the sunrise. I knew this already as I have seen it when I commute into the city in the morning. (look like lower Manhattan is on fire when you time it just right) He also suggested the other side of the train station for the sunsets, which I will have to try as well. As I was wrapping up my shoot with him I decided to help him out a little, I reached for my wallet and he said, "You don't have to do that." I said sure I do, you gave me some valuable information for future photo shoots. I gave him some money and thanked him, he was thankful for my modest contribution and we parted ways. He left shortly afterwards, I hope he got something to eat with what I gave him but only he knows. Thank you Carl, and good luck!
