Véro - Place du Royaume - 02 Octobre 2007

I personally think noodles taste better when eaten with chopsticks. I’m guessing it’s the chineseness in me!

[yes i’m in this photo, but the DOF is very small, as the lens is at 2.8!!! but i’m back there! me and my green nails!]

GNEEENTEE!!!!!

I went to Derby (to pick up a silicone blower to remove some sensor dust) the day after the riots in the Midlands and I met Zita.

She was very obliging and willing to be photographed for the project which I really appreciated. Her mood was very friendly and accommodating which was in contrast to the slightly unnerving feeling the city had that morning.

Zita is 21 and works at a hotel in the city. I was having an off day and it took me a few shots to get one I was reasonably happy with, I also wanted to go mono as I haven't had a mono image for a while in my portfolio.

Zita - thanks for the time and I hope you like the portrait.

I met Antonia near the Westgate Shopping Centre in Oxford and she kindly agreed to be part of my 100 Strangers project. Antonia is from Maidenhead in Berkshire and is a 3rd year Maths student at Hertford College. I tentatively asked what aspect of mathematics did she particularly liked and she replied Applied Maths. That just about exhausted my repertoire of maths-related questions! She didn't have any definite career in mind. I joked that with a degree from Oxford she might like to run the country, but she thought that this was unlikely. If you see this photo, Antonia, please tell me what you think of it. I hope you like it.

2009 Thanksgiving Cruise

It has been over 1-1/2 years since I took part in the 100 Stranger’s Project. I am not sure why I stepped away from this endeavor (Too busy, other projects, sports … not really sure) but the other day I decided it was time to go back.

I ran into Archit while walking along the Stanley Park Seawall. He is an International student from India studying business at a local university. He has been in Vancouver for 3 months and slowly exploring our local tourist spots.

Thank you Archit

I took my camera to the Union Square Holiday Market to photograph some strangers, but had been turned down a few times, when I noticed her purple hair. She agreed to be a part of my project, but we couldn't chat very much since customers approached her stall. I took a few photos, and continued on.

I plan to go back in the next few days and learn more about her!

Edit: I went back twice to ask her name, but she had lots of people in her stall. I thought it best to not disturb her.

I met Margaux in the streets of Quimper (Brittany), just a few minutes after Catherine

(#053).

The weather was (yet) a little wet. That's why Margaux held a black umbrella.

After explaining the project, she's accepted to be taken in photo.

Margaux is a student.

Meet Jobby (pronounced "Joe-B"). He was crouched along the wall outside of a store in the small town of Kainantu, along with many other people. I started to walk past him, but then decided that I really did want his picture, so I backtracked a few steps and approached him.

I knew when I started this project that as an introvert, it was going to be a challenge to talk to any strangers, and I also knew that the hardest category of person for me to approach would be young men. So I was determined to jump that hurdle on my day in town and to find a young man to include in the project.

Jobby was agreeable enough. Perhaps it was the peer pressure of the crowd that grew thickly around us in a few seconds to see what was happening! I thought that the background of the wall would be fine, but I had to ask the bystanders to step back a bit and give me some space!

Jobby is from Kainantu, and was home for the holidays. He is studying geology at Unitech, a University in Lae. I asked him if he was interested in getting a job at one of the many mines in the country, and he shrugged shyly and said, "Something like that."

Thank you Jobby, for letting me take your photo!
