1. I chose to reflect this image because of all the new shapes and reflections it creates.
2. I think the most visually striking aspect of this image is the reflection in the water that gets mirrored.

1. I chose to reflect the michael jackson star because it is an iconic memorabilia left of the king of pop.
2. The most appealing part of the new image is how all the stars come together as one from all perspectives.
1. I chose this quote because Neil DeGrasse Tyson is an inspiration to me.
2. Because I think it represents knowledge well.
3. I believe the quote and the picture both have an equal part in making this image powerful.

On Friday, September 9, 2011, from 7-10PM, the Armory Center for the Arts will host a party to support the work of the Urban Studio through the Walker County Community Foundation. The party will consist of a silent auction of works by LA-based artists that, when sold, will provide funds to cover the full cost of Urban Studio’s design work for the City of Cordova. With this event, we will be making a huge difference for the people of Cordova, as well as supporting the practice of community-based sustainable architecture.
The Armory Center for the Arts is located at 145 N Raymond Ave, Pasadena, CA, 91103.
1.) I liked the idea behind this image. The focus was good, but the image was interesting as it was a little mysterious as well. I like the angle and the closeness of the subject. I do feel as though I followed the technical qualification of this one pretty well.
2.) This was a friend who was another set of eyes on subject matter at a local park near my home. She had good insight, but was not interested in being the focus of any images.
3.) I took this shot in aperture priority mode as I wanted to blur the background while keeping the subject (my camera shy friend) in the foreground clear.
Playing Troy.
I'm not sure who went first here.
I think I might have stolen the initiative but.. maybe not. In any case this is the bottom of 1 or top of 2
This game panned out as follows.
Turn 1- I deploy behind the big LoS rock. Whenever my turn is I blow up some thing's, he advances forward with everything but his dread's and one squad holding the back objective.
Turn 2- I think this turn i blow up his land raider with a lucky psycannon pen. Librarian & squad hops out and pass's testing.(this might also be on turn 3). I finish off his dread in the back left. His dreadnought return volley i think nocks out one of my dreads. I shuffle my troops razorbacks around.
Turn 3 - My reserved acolyte squads start rolling in. His librarian & squad advance forward toward mine line from the pictures perspective on the left. I start shifting my terminators over to meet his advance. I think i also had an acolyte squad hanging out over there which came in off the board edge that was promptly eaten. The couple of purifiers which you can see moving in the picture advance forward and start spraying my dreads with psycannon shots. I manage to nock the squad's down in size a bit but being purifiers they don't care. Also Troy moves up his remaining two good assault cannon Razorbacks. One to the left side objective, one to the middle.
At some point on turn 3 or 4 I lose a few of my dreads to shooting by his dread, an assault cannon and purifiers. This occurs on my left side as pictured. This is important as it creates a huge line of difficult terrain for my terminators to move through. I low rediculiously low for movement on difficult terrain the next two turns or so.
Turn 4 - I kill some purifiers.Troy's librarian and purifiers have made it into the patch of green terrain directly in front of my army. On this turn i either launch an assault at his librarian and company or he assaults me. Either way, by the end of the game turn, i have eaten his librarian and squad and moved to consolidate to the middle objective. My return volley immobilizes a few things and/or kills a few more purifiers I back up what i still can move so i'm out of range of his psycannons/AC's and start shuffling my razorbacks towards objectives. Two to the left objective, two to the right objective, one holding the deployment.
Turn 5 - My terminators advance to towards the middle to take the objective from the 5-7 purifiers holding it along with crowe. I finally have escaped from the difficult terrain trap.
At some point here Troy blows up a large number of my razorbacks. I think i have two dreds left. Two squads of acolytes w/ razorbacks make it to the right objective, My terminator squad advances to the middle, and then is pulled out of contesting range by a charging Crowe who goes into defensive stances and lives. During troy's turn of shooting he kill's a razorback and the entire squad. It's now up to the second razorback to go for the objective.
Turn 6 - I think there was a turn 6 but if not, then.. well this stuff happened just a turn earlier =0 Crowe holds the line. . My second razorback squad bites it.
Troy win's 3-1 objectives.
My goal was to push for middle either claiming it or contesting forcing a secondary objective. Obviously this did not happen. (if the right had held which was a very slim chance with an AC psybolt and psycannon dread + purifier squad to shoot) i might have squeeked out a win but not likely.
1. I chose the mirror effect for this image because I thought it would be make the photo the most interesting. Since the photo is very interesting to look at even just by itself, I thought that mirroring it 4 times would give the viewer a lot to look at and make it very interesting.
2. I think the most visually striking part of this image is the symmetry between the two sides. I also like how each half of the picture sort of look like eyes.
Beginning with Image #1, I took these photos on 12/31/09 when I happened to notice the light layer of snow on my car was slipping off as the day warmed, and the surface tension vs. the weight of the snow was just right to allow the snow to "fold" as it slid down. Image #1 shows the slightest break happening - that formed after I saw the strange look of the snow on my car and before I got back from racing for my camera. I took a whole series of photos over the span of about 5 minutes, and went from the "total coverage just breaking" look to most of the cool folds having dropped off the car.

Lessons learned :
1. I had to shoot at high ISO, so yes, there is graininess and quite a bit of "motion" in the shots. Maybe it would have been better if I were closer, had a camera w/better sensor, etc. Note for next time...GET CLOSER to the action.
2. Watch the pattern of action. While the cattle were constantly in motion, they would pause briefly at times, when bucking the rider off. I attempted to wait for those moments. The reaction time from pushing the button to the camera actually clicking, even split seconds, was difficult to manage. Anticipate the moments.
3. Don't take your eye off the action. The unexpected action may happen and only last a split second. Catch it. I was shooting in RAW. If I had shot in jpg only, I would have been able to shoot more frames/sec, catching more of the moments.
4. Many more lessons... Key is to shoot more and to always keep learning. This was way out of my comfort zone, but a great learning experience!

1. I love my beautiful girlfriend in this picture.
2. I didn't like how bright it was that day.
3. I would change the timing of when we took this picture together.
1. I took this photo because I thought of taking a photo of something becoming two things for the diptych and calling it mitosis. Apples seemed to be a good choice.
2. I put the apples on a cutting board and took the photo.
3. I did some editing to the color and then made the background in photoshop.
4. I eat apples all the time so I guess that's the personal connection. My personal connection to mitosis is that it's one of the only biology concepts I remember despite having taken biology twice at this school.

10: Huntsman is my least.
1. I took a picture of a pile of leaves on the floor of a forest. This represents fall because it shows the leaves that have fallen from the trees and the many different colours that they are. It also shows how the leaves cover all of forest floor.2. I fi could retake this picture I would zoom in to get high resolution of up-close leaves.
1. I chose this layout with all the great lines that lead your eyes around the layout and to the front door, also the blue hue in the sky compliments the yellow/red hues of the building. The awning create nice manmade shapes that repeat creating interest.
2. The focal point which is about where the steps are, displays good contrast of light and dark values. The dark behind the steps leads your eye up to the focal point. Also the organic texture and pattern of the climbing vines contrasts with the exterior wall by the door that is just straight stucco.
3. I exposed the photo just enough to have clear brightness as well as good contrast. And the colors look as vibrant as they can be on this overcast gray day. I was lucky to get a little blue in the sky. The light is muted with soft lines, not much shadow.
4. Since it was an overcast day I had to experiment with my shudder and f stop to get the exposure just right, and to get a clear detailed picture. The white balance was set at auto which was good because I had forgotten about setting it.
5. I often admire this building which is a guild house for the church and all the interesting lines in the architecture attracted my attention. I chose a vertical layout to feature all these vertical lines. Also the random lines of the vines climbing up the building add a nice organic design.
1. I read the poem and thought that it was interesting how it starts with "I lie in bed asleep. Dreams of faeries and nymphs take me to a different world beyond." because I happen to sleep with a fairy hanging from my bed. I tried taking many different shots of it dangling, but eventually got the idea to just take a picture of the shadow. I then used picasa to convert it to black and white to make the shadow stand out more.
2. The separation of the subject from the background was my main challenge because my subject is a shadow. To separate them I used a combination of picasa and picnik to make sure the shadow stood out. I originally just used picasa to make the picture black and white, and then I decided to use picnik to mess with the saturation and such to make sure that it was as dark as possible.
3. The only light I used in this picture was the ceiling light I have in my bedroom. I tried using the flash a few times but it basically made the shadow either really light or disappear. In the end I just turned off my flash and positioned myself so my own shadow didn’t show in the picture.
4. Originally, I was trying to take pictures of the actual fairy that I have hanging from my bed. My main challenge was the fact that since it’s hanging, it is always moving a little bit. I tried to hold it in place but my hand always seemed to get in the picture and whenever I took it so my hand wasn’t showing, it took away from the idea that it was floating in the air.
5. I chose to take a picture of a fairy for two reasons. The main reason was because it says “faeries” in the poem that I chose which made it an obvious subject. The second reason was because it talks about wings and flying a lot and so my main thought was that I should take a picture of wings. I own a pair of wings from an old Halloween costume and I tried taking several pictures with those, but it is slightly difficult to find a good background for a pair of wings. That is when I decided to use the wings from my fairy in the photo, but just having the wings in the picture made it look strange.

1. I took a picture of a path someone made from their boots in the snow. I think this is a creative example of winter because usually when people are looking around they only look up or straight forward but never usually down. And looking down shows the texture and shape this persons boots have created in the snow.
