So cheap shoes!! Very comfy fit and stylish. Own them on www.dunkid.com

1. I read the poem and thought that it was interesting how it starts with "I lie in bed asleep. Dreams of faeries and nymphs take me to a different world beyond." because I happen to sleep with a fairy hanging from my bed. I tried taking many different shots of it dangling, but eventually got the idea to just take a picture of the shadow. I then used picasa to convert it to black and white to make the shadow stand out more.

2. The separation of the subject from the background was my main challenge because my subject is a shadow. To separate them I used a combination of picasa and picnik to make sure the shadow stood out. I originally just used picasa to make the picture black and white, and then I decided to use picnik to mess with the saturation and such to make sure that it was as dark as possible.

3. The only light I used in this picture was the ceiling light I have in my bedroom. I tried using the flash a few times but it basically made the shadow either really light or disappear. In the end I just turned off my flash and positioned myself so my own shadow didn’t show in the picture.

4. Originally, I was trying to take pictures of the actual fairy that I have hanging from my bed. My main challenge was the fact that since it’s hanging, it is always moving a little bit. I tried to hold it in place but my hand always seemed to get in the picture and whenever I took it so my hand wasn’t showing, it took away from the idea that it was floating in the air.

5. I chose to take a picture of a fairy for two reasons. The main reason was because it says “faeries” in the poem that I chose which made it an obvious subject. The second reason was because it talks about wings and flying a lot and so my main thought was that I should take a picture of wings. I own a pair of wings from an old Halloween costume and I tried taking several pictures with those, but it is slightly difficult to find a good background for a pair of wings. That is when I decided to use the wings from my fairy in the photo, but just having the wings in the picture made it look strange.

Orientalizing-Archaic period, ca. 4th quarter 7th c. BCE

Found at Vetulonia (see on Pleiades), Poggio alle Birbe necropolis, in 1894, by Isidoro Falchi

The deceased, Aule or Auvele Feluske, is represented outfitted as a warrior, as a hoplite, with a round aspis shield, wearing a Corinthian-type helmet and holding a double ax, this last rather a symbol of power, not being the typical armament of the hoplite. An Etruscan inscription runs around the edges of the stele. The man's nomenclature, both praenomen and gentilicium, has been linked with a Faliscan origin.

Etruscan text (Meiser, ET Vn 1.1):

[mi a]uvileś feluskeś tuśnutal[a pa/]panalaś mini mul/uvaneke hirumi[n]a ɸersnalnaś

1. I took a picture of a path someone made from their boots in the snow. I think this is a creative example of winter because usually when people are looking around they only look up or straight forward but never usually down. And looking down shows the texture and shape this persons boots have created in the snow.

My earbuds were hanging off of my nightstand one day. I decided to embark on a photographic journey grabbing close ups of them. Earbuds and SUPER flare #1

I think this one is my favorite.

Here are some pattern possibilities. Considerations:

1) I want a two-piece dress of the floral so that I can mix and match the pieces with the solids. Since the fabric is semi-sheer, what are some good choices for dealing with that? Underlining might be good for the top, since it is semi-fitted. A separate lining might be good for the skirt.

2) I will make a twinset from the rayon jersey and wear it with the floral skirt.

3) I'd like to make no-side-seam pants from the rayon/acetate. I need the floral top to work with the pants. Does the top pictured above work with the pants? Suggestions for other tops?

4) I will have enough rayon/acetate left to make a skirt and possibly a jacket. Since the fabric is drapey, what jacket patterns will work? The floral top will need to work with the jacket.

1. I took a photo of my friend covering her face from the snow falling above. I think this is a great example of winter because she's excited about the fact that its snowing and winter is one of the seasons where you can do a lot of fun activities

Lessons learned :

1. I had to shoot at high ISO, so yes, there is graininess and quite a bit of "motion" in the shots. Maybe it would have been better if I were closer, had a camera w/better sensor, etc. Note for next time...GET CLOSER to the action.

2. Watch the pattern of action. While the cattle were constantly in motion, they would pause briefly at times, when bucking the rider off. I attempted to wait for those moments. The reaction time from pushing the button to the camera actually clicking, even split seconds, was difficult to manage. Anticipate the moments.

3. Don't take your eye off the action. The unexpected action may happen and only last a split second. Catch it. I was shooting in RAW. If I had shot in jpg only, I would have been able to shoot more frames/sec, catching more of the moments.

4. Many more lessons... Key is to shoot more and to always keep learning. This was way out of my comfort zone, but a great learning experience!

I don't think there's a DVD version of Baraka that I haven't bought. (For North America, anyway.)

l-r:

#1: I think this may be the first DVD version that came out, and I believe I bought this at a used CD/DVD store in the Bay area.

#2: Then, the special collector's 2-disc version came out, so I had to get that one!

#3: THEN, the ultradigital HD version came out, so I bought that.

#4: This is the Blu-Ray disc I just bought my parents for their fancy new Blu-Ray player. The film looks absolutely outstanding on Blu-Ray and a large plasma TV. Holy cow. It blew my mind. Baraka on VHS blew my mind several years ago, but the detail in the HD version is stunning.

Gonna do the 5 Things About Me post: 1⃣ I have listened to Dave Matthews Band since 1996, but never went to a concert until 2007 (1st time I could afford it). 2⃣ My left upper bicuspid is a deciduous tooth. Never lost it. 3⃣ I have a handmade Agent Smith plushie. 4⃣ @quiara & @thejessone are teaching me about tea; they love it like I love coffee. 5⃣ i don't like milk chocolate; it has to be dark.

hillarygayle: The photo is me exactly one year ago today, remodeling my house. Helping, anyway. My parents, aunt, & uncle are the real remodeling crew.

quiara: Hee. I do not like your wimpy dark chocolate. I like mine reeeeaaaalllly dark and with all kinds of SPICY. Just dawned on me that I prefer savoury chocolate to sweet...

hillarygayle: @quiara HAHAHA NO. I like dark chocolate. You like evil chocolate of doom. Mine's slightly goth, yours is an evil overlord.

*going under* ~song lyrics by evanescence

www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZjf9C6atT4

Now I will tell you what I've done for you -

50 thousand tears I've cried.

Screaming, deceiving and bleeding for you -

And you still won't hear me.

(going under)

Don't want your hand this time - I'll save myself.

Maybe I'll wake up for once (wake up for once)

Not tormented daily defeated by you

Just when I thought I'd reached the bottom

I'm dying again

I'm going under (going under)

Drowning in you (drowning in you)

I'm falling forever (falling forever)

I've got to break through

I'm going under

Blurring and stirring - the truth and the lies.

(So I don't know what's real) So I don't know what's real and what's not (and what's not)

Always confusing the thoughts in my head

So I can't trust myself anymore

I'm dying again

I'm going under (going under)

Drowning in you (drowning in you)

I'm falling forever (falling forever)

I've got to break through

I'm...

So go on and scream

Scream at me I'm so far away (so far away)

I won't be broken again (again)

I've got to breathe - I can't keep going under

I'm dying again

I'm going under (going under)

Drowning in you (drowning in you)

I'm falling forever (falling forever)

I've got to break through

I'm going under (going under)

I'm going under (drowning in you)

I'm going under

This BUTTON DISPLAY CARD is personalized to family to some extent. At the top of the card is written - Mother H Artley. There are some buttons missing form this area. Thee is the hook part of a hook and eye unit. Just below that are grouped three buttons. The middle button had the writing - Ms. Woodridge Confirmation 01/01/1. I think this is the correct date. Below that is written- Aunt Sallie's Wedding March 14, 1899. This card looks like it was worked on at two different times. On the back is written - Aunt Sallie Miller May 1951 and at the other end of the back side is1953 showing 25 pieces were attached to this display.

THIS CARD IS FOR DISPLAY ONLY - NOT FOR SALE

1. I chose to take this photo horizontally so that you would get more of his body, instead of unnecessary background. I think that since there are horizontal and vertical lines in the photo, that they balance each other out nicely. I like how the major lines lead to the subject. I like how the subject takes up a major part of the space in this photo.

2. The subject is my nephew Jakob. I think that he has nice contrast with the background since he is wearing his black hat and white shirt. It isn't bold to really stick out, but you can definately tell where he ends and the background begins. It was a shallow depth of field, but since I was so close, you can still see the wallpaper behind him.

3. There was a hall light on which was to my right and up. You can tell because it really shows a hardness on his left shoulder. It really brightens up that side of his shirt and his face. I think it helped just enough with his face to see enough of both sides.

4. I had the camera set on AUTO. I tried it with other settings, but this one turned out the best. The exposure was at 1/8, aperture was at 2.8, and the ISO was at 200. No flash was used for this picture.

5. I went to visit my sister-in-law and nephew on Thursday and asked him to be my model. He actually posed for the other pictures that I took and this one he was just being his goofy self. He was sliding down the banister and almost fell when I got this shot. I chose to shoot portrait photography for this week, since it is my favorite and the type of photography that I will probably use the most. I take pictures of people and my kids all the time!

I wish I had a faster lens. This is the first photo for a weekly photo project group. It was taken this at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago.

I saw Mr. Personality again this morning and he was causing all kinds of trouble. First he tried to climb on a larger red-eared slider, female I believe.

Female Red-eared Slider (Trachemys scripta elegans)
