A dinner or lunch at the lovey hotel restaurant 'Villa Augustus' here always takes a bit longer ...one simply has to visit the vegatable garden (with its green houses) and mini-orchard and admire the architecture: the former water tower (the hotel) (1883) and pumping station (the restaurant) (1933) of the former water purification facility of the municpality of Dordrecht. It's an excellent example of Industrial redevelopment.

Tiengemeten is an island in the Haringvliet, a large inlet of the North Sea, in the Dutch province of South Holland. On 10 May 2007 its farming inhabitants were relocated and nature has been allowed to work its way.

Today (30 November, 2021) on the news: this coal-fired power station (one of biggest polluters of the Netherlands, build in 2015) will be closed, maybe as soon as within the next two months. Necessary for NL to be able to live up to the Paris Agreements. There's three more coal fired power stations to go.

"In the event of a disaster or accident in which people are trapped or buried, the specialist assistance team USAR.NL can be deployed both nationally and internationally. The workers carry out search and rescue operations under the most difficult conditions, for example involving collapsed buildings, earthquakes or landslides, accidents in tunnels, hurricanes or similar catastrophes. USAR.NL can be deployed within 4 hours in the Netherlands and within 24 hours abroad." ;

Europe, Netherlands, Zuid Holland, Schiedam, Merwehaven, Figee Cranes (slightly cut).

While commuting I used to pass the partly demolished installations and buildings of the Schiedam Gusto wharf at the Merwehaven (closed in 1978). Knowing that the demolition was to be finalized soon, I eventually stopped and explored.

The harbour cranes on display were manufactured by Figee (after a bankruptcy and restart /merger, it's still active as Kenz/Figee).

Cranes like this had booms up to 38 m long and could hoist between 2,5 - 5 tons.

When the quay was at last cleared, the infamous ‘bajesboten’ (detention barges) of the Dutch Immigration and Naturalization Service were moored here from 2004 to 2009.

This is the start of a new mini-series about this former wharf.

The area now is a part of the M4H urban redevelopment project. So this is number 205 of the Urban Frontiers Urban Frontier album and 71 of the Gloriously dilapidated one: here.

Europe, Netherlads, Zuid Holland, Rotterdam, World Port Days, Wilhelmakade, Multratug 33, Spectators (uncut)

Multratug 33 and her sister 32 differ drastically from the classic harbour tug. They are of course powerful (5,3MW) but very agile and flexible due to the carousel towing gear. And, owing to the 'RAVE' technology, highly manoeuvrable too, as is shown here.

The sisters were built by Theodor Buschmann Shipyard & Damen Maaskant Shipyard ( 2016-2018) and are operated by Mutlraship.

About 'RAVE': "The RAVE (Robert Allan Ltd. Voith Escort) tug is a new concept (introduced in 2013) for a highly manoeuvrable, high-performance escort and ship-handling tug, jointly developed by Robert Allan Ltd. and Voith Turbo Marine. The most unique characteristic of the RAVE concept is the longitudinal alignment of the two drives ('pods'), in contrast to the more conventional transverse in a “tractor” configuration." Kinderdijk is a village in the Netherlands, belonging to the municipality of Molenwaard, in the province South Holland, about 15 km east of Rotterdam. Kinderdijk is situated in a polder in the Alblasserwaard at the confluence of the Lek and Noord rivers. To drain the polder, a system of 19 windmills was built around 1740. This group of mills is the largest concentration of old windmills in the Netherlands. The windmills of Kinderdijk are one of the best-known Dutch tourist sites. They have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.

Europe, Zuid Holland, Rotterdam Zuid, De groene verbinding / De netkous ( Marc Verheijen), an approaching rain storm (uncut)

The Groene verbinding (green connection) is a pedestrian and bicycle viaduct that creates a new connection between urban Rotterdam Zuid and the rural Albrandswaard, crossing 9 meters above the A15 motorway and the Betuwe rail line.

It was designed by Marc Verheijen of Municipal Works Rotterdam (Gemeentewerken Rotterdam), constructed by VDS Staalbouw, and is already known as the 'Netkous' (fishnet-stocking). The Rotterdam one, that is. For there's also a The Hague one: shown here and here.
