Aka "the Blue Cube". Taken from a parking lot adjecent to the building.
A long known intelligence building with no discernable windows. A Sattelite control facility.
The building is right next to Moffett Field, and used to be, and may still be, ground zero for a soviet nuclear attack.

Traveling out from Center City Rochester along State Route 31, about the place where urban sprawl ends and the City become Pittsford sits Long Meadow, the first ever Monroe County subdivision.
Developed in the early 1900's when the main way into the City was a trolley line, that ran alongside the alternately dusty or muddy two-lane dirt road, “the Avenue”. It ran from City Rochester to Village Pittsford and back.
The subdivision was “advertised as ‘Long Meadow Bungalow Sites’”. Now a lovely neighborhood with large lots, mature landscaping, and homes of varied architectural style.
I happened upon the area by accident. A friend whose car was in the shop needed a ride. This brought me into the subdivision. I was struck by the peace and beauty of the neighborhood. And as I drove out the variety of architectural styles. By chance I had my camera with me and just had to snapped away.
Information for this writeup came from The history of Long Meadow - Part 1 and Part 2 on the town of Pittsford web site.

It's hard not to get a little Gothic when talking about this plant. Its flowers are large, campanulate; summer flowers are almost exactly the color of liver on the outside, fall flowers are paler: the inside flower surface is covered with intricate reticulations, becoming increasingly fuzzy towards the flower center, and are a very dark liver color to nearly black. The flower produces an INTENSE carrion scent - which is even more pronounced than in its close relatives - Stapelia gigantea and Stapelia hirsuta. The flowers are pollinated by flies, which are attracted by the foul scented flowers.
In my experience, the flowers are short lived - opening no more than 2 days in summer, and to 4 or 5 days during cooler conditions. During the warmer months, I grow my plants outside on a patio, and it is virtually impossible to photograph these flowers before flies have peppered the inside flower surface with eggs
Out of bloom, I find the general appearance of Stapelia leendertziae, to be a slightly more refined that those of its close relatives, with generally taller, more uniformly slender, and upright side shoots.
This species was selected as UBCBG Botany Photo of the Day for September 8, 2015, see www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/potd/2015/09/stapelia-leendert.... The writeup is a good read

Daniel (Danny) Schneeweiss is the co-founder of Milagro Tequila. Along with his partner Moises (Moy) Guindi, Danny set out to create a world class tequila that was both refined and accessible. Milagro was introduced to the world in 1997, and since then has gained recognition as a truly elegant Tequila with a very attractive price point. I got to see first hand the results of Danny and Moy's hard work: attention to detail at every step of production. From closed fermentation tanks to a sophisticated final step of column distillation to further cut heads and tails without raising the spirit's proof (a little info for all you spirits dorks out there), care and precision result in a beautiful blanco tequila that stands up on it's own and takes age well. Oh, and it makes a great margarita. Danny has come a long way from his Mexico City roots, now an international businessman with global aspirations. As tequila enjoys a renaissance, his brand continues to grow.

Advertising photography: photographs made to illustrate and usually sell a service or product.
Tried clicking a 'advertising photography' type shot of the Waterman recently gifted by one of my in-laws. :-)
Till date, I haven't had any occasion/ writeup/ signature worthy enough of this expensive waterman! Better to use it as a photography object!
Set-up: the background and gold embossing is of the box itself. Natural light coming from the window diffused by curtains :)
With light coming from right, the challenge here was to somehow illuminate the gold embossing without any additional lighting.
Will go for a re-take with a better setup.

This photo is here to create a page to hold temporary text which reminds me of a signifigant detail:
Katie is finding that people, as a rule, are not doing their favorite thing.
(This relates to the notion that humans are artists but lose touch.)
The text comes from a description of the project written (Ap.28,05) to Mary Borkowski at Barnard in New York:
______________
"- i think i've come across a new form of art :
- a young woman named Katie at UCSC came to my second exibition party.
- the other day i was invited to a group exhibit at UCSC where she was the subject of some of the photographs. She told me that she is now doing "social sculpture".
- i had gotten to know her as a sculptor of bronze pieces in a "practical" vein. example: a miniature bronze guitar that works.
- this new thing of her's is to ask people about their passion; what they really love to do.
- often enough- though they can identify their passion- they are not doing it.
- her next step is to try to arrange to meet with them for an hour or two while they are doing it. this she handles with a very light touch and backs off if necessary.
- however- in two months- she has done ten of these sessions. she takes photos, audio tapes and notes.
- on one occasion she rode bikes with the person; on another she might be with them while they're writing.
- i told my close friend, Stacey, about this today and, after a minute i saw- by the look on her face- that it was working on her just to hear about it: she was trying to decide how she would answer the initial question.
- i'm sure you can see, Mary, that this idea is nifty, neat and noopious.
- Katie may end up with a team of people doing this. her friend, Huriya, suggested i be on the team. i said i'm painting- or should be.
- then Katie suggested that she do a session with me: "i'll paint with you."
- we will probably do this at Coffeetopia, which is actually where i have been painting lately, at "my table" in the back.
- she hasn't decided what form the output will take. i suggested she interest some crazy people to take over that aspect of it.
- by crazy people i mean filmmakers. only crazy people work as hard as filmmakers do.
------
[ this is still the letter to Mary and shines some different lights on the idea:
"WRITEUP TO GEORGE ON KATIE IDEA.
- youngest son; composer, instrumentalist. doing alot of House music.
- see: djorigami.com/bio.html
- you will note that this exchange is partially a recruiting move for you.
doncochrane: see yas later.
doncochrane: it's getting to be that time or other.
doncochrane: but before i go, did i tell you about a talk i had with a young woman named Katie at UCSC?
doncochrane: about what i think of as a new art form ?
newstylesound: nope
doncochrane: she was at the second party.
doncochrane: i've run into her a couple more times and we had a germinal conversation at a UCSC senior exhibition at Visual Arts.
doncochrane: i'm spreading the news of what Katie is doing. she wd love to do a session with you and with Lydia, i'm sure.
newstylesound: what is it that she does?
doncochrane: she arranges to spend time with people while they do what they are most interested in.
doncochrane: she takes notes, photos, and audio tapes.
doncochrane: often enough, the people haven't been doing what they love to do best.
newstylesound: interesting!
doncochrane: so it stirs the people up if they agree to do a session with her.
doncochrane: yes.
doncochrane: there may end up being a team of people that do this.
newstylesound: that's a cool idea
doncochrane: she has done ten sessions in two months.
doncochrane: we talked enthusiastically about it for about 45 minutes on friday night.
doncochrane: ok, i'll send what i wrote to Mary about it but you have the gist of it.
doncochrane: see yas.
doncochrane: i love you alot.
newstylesound: love you too!
newstylesound: are you taking off ?
doncochrane: yeah, i'm off to pick up the computer, etc. what fun.
doncochrane: bye, and clickerino."

* Dear Close Observer,
Yes, this photo is a composite, forced on me because my new camera was set for a two second delay when I thought it was on ten seconds. It is a little strange, being made from two photos, but I like it just the same. It's my cubist photo.
(You are praised as, 'Dear Close Observer', because you were either observant and tenacious about the photo or the asterisk.)

My first tutorial for the good people at Creative Market is now live!
I will walk you through the process of re-creating a poster I call "Structure." We will go through all the steps, from conceptualization to execution.
I used quite a few resources from the Creative Market community along the way. This writeup should give you a glimpse of how versatile they all are.
I hope you'll enjoy the process piece. Until next one, cheers!
