The center of the dish is decorated with a vine border and bears the monogram of the owner, Theodore. Two other dishes from the same set are in New York, Metropolitan Museum of Art, inv. 52.25.2 and Washington DC, Dumbarton Oaks Museum, inv. BZ.1960.60."

this is an image of the ganga aarti at the Dashashwamedha Ghat on the

river Ganges in Varanasi (Benaras). writeup:

Dashashwamedha Ghat, is Varanasi’s most popular and accessible bathing

ghat, with rows of pandas sitting on wooden platforms under bamboo

umbrellas, masseurs plying their trade and boatmen jostling for custom.

Its name, "ten horse sacrifices", derives from a complex series of

sacrifices performed by Brahma to test King Divodasa: Shiva and Parvati

were sure the king’s resolve would fail, and he would be compelled to

leave Kashi, thereby allowing them to return to their city. However,

the sacrifices were so perfect that Brahma established the Brahmeshvara

lingam here. Since that time, Dashashwamedha has become one of themost

celebrated tirthas on earth, where pilgrims can reap the benefits of

the huge sacrifice merely by bathing.

Ganga Aarti at Dasaswamedh ghat, is one of the prime attractions of

Varanasi. It starts just after sunset, with a bunch of young men

choreographing to the chantings, holding the lamps. People start

arriving at the ghats as early as 5pm. Dasaswamedh ghat becomes a hub

of activity, with people sitting and waiting for the aarti, buying

flowers and other things from nearby shops or performing pooja. As the

aarti begins, the men take their positions at the platform and begin

swinging the lamp to the tune of chantings. Big lamps look beautiful

after darkness sets in. The choreography is excellent and worth seeing.

Last month I finally launched a legit website/blog for exploration writeups and stuff. I did a few minor entries to test the waters; then on Christmas - 30 years to the day of the tragic fire, and two years after its first new residents in 27 years moved in - I published a full history and writeup on the Karcher Building in Waukegan, which can be read here...

Incidentally: I don't think I've photographed it from the south end, before, so here.

Course 7: Sesame cracker.

I can't remember much about it, but it was very soft and it melted on the tongue, similar to the consistency of a marshmellow, but much softer. Okay
