This had a bit of the same retro-future vibe as Tomorrowland, only faux Deco/Googie instead of faux Victorian.

Petteri Sulonen graciously made available his grain field map that he uses for his B&W photography.
He has a great writeup on his digital B&W workflow as well.
I thought I would go ahead and mirror his grain field here for anyone who was interested.

Course 3: Gin Fizz
Hands down, the best alcoholic drink I have ever had. The drink is served tableside, topping the drink off with a very dense meringue using a soda siphon. You get the sweetness of the gin base, then the alcohol kicks in, and you smell the wonderful citrus-y notes. It truly sends your taste buds on an incredible journey, and after each mouthful, the only thing you could possibly want is to pick up your glass and have another go. Amazing.

Ticket booth in the Sri Muang theatre
Bangkok's Chinatown, 2006

Apparently, it used to be the Sri Meaung Theater, now it is the "Chinatown Rama". There's a great writeup over at the Southeast Asian Movie Theater Project.
While in Tokyo last year, I retraced the steps I took during my first vacation there, almost 20 years ago. I tried to recreate some of the photos I took to see how things had changed.
I made a full writeup in this blog post, which will also include more photos than I'll be posting here on Flickr.
去年、東京にいる間に、ほぼ20年前の初めて東京へ行った旅行の行った道を戻りました。景色はどうやて変わったのかと思いました。それで、昔に撮った写真と比べるために、出来るだけ同じように現代版を撮りました。

The City of Oakland’s Broadway Autorow (from Grand Avenue south to 42nd St. north and
Harrison Street East to Freeway 980 West) has some of the most historic and beautiful old buildings. One of these is the building at 315 27th St. commonly known as "Biffs or JJ’s". This building is a modern restaurant building. It is high one story, circular plan (38 ft 6 inches), according to original permit), with entry and utility projections, on a gore lot, on the east part of the parcel whose west Broadway frontage was until recently occupied by a 1970’s Chevron station. It has mansard-like mechanical penthouse at the center; an outward sloping scored stucco base, and large plate windows around slightly more than half the exterior. Exterior walls are concrete block and stucco. Roof is composition. Foundation is concrete. Sanborn maps describe the structure as reinforced concrete block. The entry is below a metal mansard canopy, alongside a battered buttress of split-face concrete block. Interiors are also notable with zig-zag ceilings, nauganhyde booths, terrazzo floors, geometric wood paneling, and a central "exhibition cooking area." The building is now vacant and has been for a number of years now. Most recently the building housed JJ’s restaurant. Prior to JJ ’s the building housed the renowned "Biffs" restaurant. Supportive elements for the Biffs restaurant included a palm tree and signs (internally illuminated neo-"60s on
original crossed pole supports, replacing animated neon bullseye "Biff’s" sign). Surroundings are densely built up, commercial near Broadway, residential to the east. Visible alternations include roof shingled, concrete utility enclosure around the back, and some interior alterations. The building
is considered to be in good condition. The Biff’s/JJ’s restaurant was vital to the livelihood of the
Broadway Autorow community especially the senior citizens from several senior residential centers located on 28th Street. The Community is doing all it can to encourage the current owners of
the restaurant to restore it to its 1960’s prominence.

Course 7: Sesame cracker.
I can't remember much about it, but it was very soft and it melted on the tongue, similar to the consistency of a marshmellow, but much softer. Okay

this is an image of the ganga aarti at the Dashashwamedha Ghat on the
river Ganges in Varanasi (Benaras). writeup:
Dashashwamedha Ghat, is Varanasi’s most popular and accessible bathing
ghat, with rows of pandas sitting on wooden platforms under bamboo
umbrellas, masseurs plying their trade and boatmen jostling for custom.
Its name, "ten horse sacrifices", derives from a complex series of
sacrifices performed by Brahma to test King Divodasa: Shiva and Parvati
were sure the king’s resolve would fail, and he would be compelled to
leave Kashi, thereby allowing them to return to their city. However,
the sacrifices were so perfect that Brahma established the Brahmeshvara
lingam here. Since that time, Dashashwamedha has become one of themost
celebrated tirthas on earth, where pilgrims can reap the benefits of
the huge sacrifice merely by bathing.
Ganga Aarti at Dasaswamedh ghat, is one of the prime attractions of
Varanasi. It starts just after sunset, with a bunch of young men
choreographing to the chantings, holding the lamps. People start
arriving at the ghats as early as 5pm. Dasaswamedh ghat becomes a hub
of activity, with people sitting and waiting for the aarti, buying
flowers and other things from nearby shops or performing pooja. As the
aarti begins, the men take their positions at the platform and begin
swinging the lamp to the tune of chantings. Big lamps look beautiful
after darkness sets in. The choreography is excellent and worth seeing.

Last month I finally launched a legit website/blog for exploration writeups and stuff. I did a few minor entries to test the waters; then on Christmas - 30 years to the day of the tragic fire, and two years after its first new residents in 27 years moved in - I published a full history and writeup on the Karcher Building in Waukegan, which can be read here...
Incidentally: I don't think I've photographed it from the south end, before, so here.
