I hate the watermarks as well. Blame the people that keep stealing images for commercial use.

Tom Thomson
Claremont, Ontario, 1877 – Canoe Lake, Ontario, 1917
1915
Oil on canvas
101.7 x 114.5 cm
Purchase, gift of Dr. Francis J. Shepherd, Sir Vincent Meredith, Drs. Lauterman and W. Gardner and Mrs. Hobart Molson
Inventory 1922.179
Based on a small oil sketch made in Algonquin Park in the fall of 1915, two years before the artist drowned in Canoe Lake, this masterful large-format painting was acquired in 1922 by the Art Association. The Association was the third institution in the country to acquire a canvas by Tom Thomson. In his writeup of the Spring Exhibition in March 1922, the Montreal Herald critic stated, “To many, the most interesting picture in the exhibition is a large canvas representative of the work of the late Tom Thomson.”

The Chinese Garden in Portland, OR had kites hanging in all of the indoor pavilions. The colors were absolutely amazing and the craftsmanship was as well. This is best viewed large on black.
The following writeup is taken directly from their web page which may not be available once the kite exhibition closes:
A rare and authentic collection of over 40 Chinese kites will be on display throughout the Portland Chinese Garden, as part of the Colorful Kites of China exhibit and activities celebrating the rebirth of spring time in the Garden.
The kite collection is the result of 17 years travel and kite learning by Bob and Charmayne Umbowers of Gig Harbor, WA. The kites represent the work of great Chinese kite builders, some who are no longer living, and also the work of contemporary kite designers and builders. The collection features kites of all sizes/colors and in shapes that communicate auspicious meanings—butterflies, dragonflies and flowers signifying harmony; cranes, peaches and tortoises representing long life.
On the weekend of April 17 & 18, Garden visitors will enjoy workshops on kite making and decoration, taught by members of the World Kite Museum & Hall of Fame of Longview, WA.
Kites making and flying are an integral part of Chinese history and culture. The earliest written account of kite flying occurred in 200 B.C., when a Chinese general flew a kite over the walls of a city to estimate how far his army would have to tunnel to reach opposing soldiers. It is customary during the spring festival of Qingming for people to visit family graves to pay their respect and then celebrate rebirth by sailing their kites skyward.
About two months ago I salvaged a pair of theater seats from the curb down the street from me. With the help of my father, I've turned them into a very quirky set of hide-away guest seats for my studio apartment.

so I managed to get my simulation working properly, but there's still the matter of the project writeup. I keep trying to be optimistic, but I most likely have a few hours to go still.
and I have a final exam in this class on Tuesday. I've declared tomorrow a mental health day, and am only going to study on Sunday and Monday, so hopefully I am able to recharge a bit tomorrow.
ETA: it is 2:37 AM and I am going to sleep. FINALLY.
While in Tokyo last year, I retraced the steps I took during my first vacation there, almost 20 years ago. I tried to recreate some of the photos I took to see how things had changed.
I made a full writeup in this blog post, which will also include more photos than I'll be posting here on Flickr.
去年、東京にいる間に、ほぼ20年前の初めて東京へ行った旅行の行った道を戻りました。景色はどうやて変わったのかと思いました。それで、昔に撮った写真と比べるために、出来るだけ同じように現代版を撮りました。

This Popular Photography writeup dates the launch of the E-6 development process to 1976. Kodak's Process E-6 remained (and remains) the standardized development chemistry for color slide (reversal) emulsions, although Fujifilm and others may designate a different name.

Another important native plant gift to my garden by a local man, born and bred. The Wikipedia writeup is a long and interesting one, and with good reason.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goldenseal
Excerpt from Wikipedia:
"Goldenseal is in serious danger due to overharvesting. Goldenseal became popular in the mid-nineteenth century. By 1905, the herb was much less plentiful, partially due to overharvesting and partially to habitat destruction. Wild goldenseal is now so rare that the herb is listed in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)."

These are high speed pictures of water balloons, shot with a BB gun. The pictures were shot in collaboration with Allen Yoo of ClickMe Studios and DaveM of www.degreesoffocus.com/. The intent was to capture the exact moment of impact of the BB with the water balloon.

Sucked into this meme again, this time on Facebook.
Hey, how 'bout a totally fake artist's writeup to go with it?
"Harry Cawthorne was known for his bizarre, atonal cacophony-of-noise compositions. One reviewer compared them to the hypothetical sound of Tom Waits and Laurie Anderson having a gunfight in a kettle factory. Another said it sounded like a dozen guitar strings and an unhappy cat being stretched between two speeding, oppositely-aimed Mack trucks. Cawthorne's career was characterized by a humble beginning followed by a meteoric plummet. This cover represents the last picture ever taken of him, in his one-room Montana shack where he hand-wrote anti-government manifestos and hate mail to Bronson Pinchot. He eventually died from an overdose of his beloved Smart Water; he committed suicide after it wised him up to the point of realizing how much he sucked."
A few outtakes from our recent trip to Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch. Look for a brief writeup in next month's Times Publications.
Lorikeets are awesome. Also awesomely loud. Also, they love to perch on unattended camera bags and they get mad if humans try to claim the bag later.
(Psst. I did a "Friday 5" on the blog. It's kind of a cheater post, but I like to think it's also kind of funny. Nothing to do with birds, but where else am I going to shamelessly plug my blog?)
