This picture is taken at an Oasis just outside of Palm Desert Ca .The San Andreas fault line runs along the hillside and forces water to the surface in the middle of the desert. It is fascinating to encounter lush growth and freely running water in the midst of the desert. A park preserve is located here. It is a spot where gold miners stopped overnite on their quest for gold. I have attached a link to a more elaborate writeup on this area

Traveling out from Center City Rochester along State Route 31, about the place where urban sprawl ends and the City become Pittsford sits Long Meadow, the first ever Monroe County subdivision.
Developed in the early 1900's when the main way into the City was a trolley line, that ran alongside the alternately dusty or muddy two-lane dirt road, “the Avenue”. It ran from City Rochester to Village Pittsford and back.
The subdivision was “advertised as ‘Long Meadow Bungalow Sites’”. Now a lovely neighborhood with large lots, mature landscaping, and homes of varied architectural style.
I happened upon the area by accident. A friend whose car was in the shop needed a ride. This brought me into the subdivision. I was struck by the peace and beauty of the neighborhood. And as I drove out the variety of architectural styles. By chance I had my camera with me and just had to snapped away.
Information for this writeup came from The history of Long Meadow - Part 1 and Part 2 on the town of Pittsford web site.

monks at the Buddhist Kai Yuan temple in Quanzhou
Found a nice writeup on the history of the temple at http://www.travelchinaguide.com/attraction/fujian/quanzhou/kaiyuan-temple.htm
Built in 686 (during the reign of Empress Wu Zetian), Kaiyuan Temple is located on West Street in Quanzhou City. The entire complex covers an area of over 19 acres. Through past restorations, it has now become a fairly complete set of courtyard galleries. As the largest Buddhist temple in Fujian Province, Kaiyuan Temple has attracted many domestic and foreign travelers who are interested in Buddhist culture.
Most of the temple's architecture has special artistic features of the Tang (618-907), the Song (960-1279), the Yuan (1271-1368), the Ming (1368-1644), and the Qing (1644-1911) Dynasties. Major buildings in Kaiyuan Temple include Tianwang Hall, Daxiong Palace, the Sweet Dew Temple, the Sutra Depository, and Gongde Tang. Two long corridors and two stone towers date from the Song Dynasty (960-1279). In addition, many cultural relics are kept in the temple.
In front of Kaiyuan Temple are two imposing stone towers. The east one is called Zhenguo Tower and stands 158 feet high, while the west one is called Renshou Tower and stands 145 feet high. This pair of towers is the highest stone towers in China. Due to their uniqueness, they are regarded as a special landmark of Quanzhou City. On every floor of each tower, lifelike carvings of arhats and knights can be seen around the niches, on the walls, and on the eaves

My 100th photo...a self portrait. And a somewhat different writeup.
It's been 6-months and 16 days since i posted my first photo.
With each photo I learned something new, either I learned a new technique, a new style, got to know a new person via flickr, or got referred to other photographers.
Anyways it's been quite some fun here on flickr, being able to share photos with you all, and most of all getting to see your photos, your ideas, and commenting on them. I really like to see how people improve, and what new ideas they have.
What i like most of all is meeting all of you. There are some flickrites that comment regularly on my photos, among them Digital-Agent (ken Yuel), DenaP, Saintbridge, flocuratolo, and a few others. I must thank you for all the support you have given me. Because quiet frankly if i get no comments on a photo, i feel uninspired to post the next one.
I decide that since it's my 100th photo I would post a few stats concerning my photo stream:
9,730-- views of individual photos, ie; clicking on a photo within the photo stream
89,141-- views of my photo stream, including advance to next page of photos.
726-- comments from a lot of wonderful people (average of 7.2 per photo)
And now...?
I want to start a 365 project but don't think i have the guts to. It would be based on shooting a photo of hutterites, every day, for one year, 365 days. I will need a lot of support from you people before i start that one.
On someones suggestion, I took a quick look at tintype emulation for fun. This was my first result of playing around.

One of the most surreal but expansive work of art I have ever come across is in the small Tennessee town of Brownsville. This metal behemoth is the work of one man, Billy Tripp and he has named it his Mindfield.
The Mindfield is located in a narrow but deep strip of land between the Sunrise Inn and a strip mall along Main St. (old US70/79), just a couple of blocks east of the town square. Started in 1989, he plans on adding to it until the day he dies. He is always on the lookout for scrap metal, such as the abandoned water tower he found once when he was on a trip. If you visit, you might get lucky and find a free copy of his book The Mindfield Years, Vol. 1 which is a stream-of-consciousness for 725 pages which he describes as a difficult read.
There's a whole lot more I'd like to say but these sites say it better:
I have a coworker who came from Brownsville, and she thought it was cool how it brings attention to the city.
