Making its way behind the Beamish Town Stables is our 1871 shunting engine Coffee Pot No.1 during a day's shunting at Rowley Station last week in anticipation of the arrival of the Y7 from the North Norfolk railway.

On the plus side, this leaves only three dolls on my wishlist. Maybe 2017 will be a bit less on dolls. Unlike 2016 (my writeup at the end of the year will be painful)

It took me a few seconds to place the exact reference (beyond the obvious Red Riding Hood and such), but when I did, it made total sense.

You can see the very tip of the copper tubing sticking out the bottom of the bundle. The whole thing is held together with nylon cable ties; which would discolor and then fail if the outside gets too hot. (It does get too hot to touch.)

It's not often that here in Dallas we get a ton of snow. It's usually ice or freezing rain, you know, the bad stuff. What a delightful surprise this morning when I found 3 inches of snow on the ground. We expect about 10" in total.

More (15) images at my blog and longer writeup. Please at least look at the pictures!

A number of people have asked me questions about chlorination of latex in costumes. I won't claim to be a chemist, but my technique is based on trade journal writeups of what's done in the latex medical glove industry where chlorination is used to make powderless latex gloves that slide on easily.

In part 1, I'm preparing the suit for chlorination while discussing a bit of the process. Not great narration, this was a spur-of-the-moment video idea. Any feedback on this one will be used to make it better next time.

The costume here isn't mine, my friend Jerikandra Cosplay does beautiful costume work in latex, among other materials -- check out her work at www.instagram.com/jerikandra/ or www.facebook.com/jerikandracosplay/

I can't take credit for anything other than making the suit easier to wear with a bit of household chemistry.

Beach trader, Marina Palmense, on the Adriatic cost of Italy. The itinerant beach traders who come along at the rate of one every few seconds during certain times of the day are not all African, many of them, like this man, are Asian, though I don't know from which country or countries.

These are high speed pictures of water balloons, shot with a BB gun. The pictures were shot in collaboration with Allen Yoo of ClickMe Studios and DaveM of www.degreesoffocus.com/. The intent was to capture the exact moment of impact of the BB with the water balloon.

You can see a writeup of the home-brewed strobist based rig that captured these shots, with step-by-step commentary here.

Was selected to be included with another flickr member Zeroneg1 in a magazine writeup.

Called "Second Hand Classic D90" in the Sept. 2013 issue of What Digital Camera in the UK.

Mind the resolution as a magnified snapshot from pdf.

Sadly they changed the wording quite a bit.

And intent was changed as I never wrote equivalent to a 82-300 in 35mm terms.

Or about it's crop factor at all.

My original text sent them.

"In searching for my perfect camera found the D90 to fit all my needs back in December 2010. From the Bigger Brighter Viewfinder to more dedicated controls for making changes on the fly without my eye leaving the viewfinder. Made the D90 a delight in using on a daily basis. First time shooting handheld in underground transit at 3200 had me convinced.

Rarely a need to take it off Auto-WB and metering is spot on.

Shooting the 50mm f1.8D and Nikon 80-200 f2.8 AF-D was great experience with built in motor for driving older classic lenses that entry cameras cannot with their lack of built in motor to drive lenses.Even daily shooting with my preferred 55-200vr makes for a great walkabout setup shooting wide ranging subjects that I shoot for stock photography. And is a great Bang for the Buck even today and would not hesitate to recommend for budding photographer's starting out.

Of course there are newer more capable camera's like the D7000. But on a budget and needing additional lenses and accessories makes the D90 a great choice for those on a budget."

Pointblank from G1 Transformers cartoon series, turns into a futuristic speedster. Transformation doesn't require reassembly of parts.

I am taking inspiration from both his original toy version from the 80s and also some design cues from his cartoon/comic version.
