A beloved aunt of mine passed way just over a week ago. With a company-gifted day off for voting today, I decided to go to ornament therapy (don’t worry, I voted a couple weeks ago, so my civic duty was already complete).
We’re scheduled to see the Michael Jackson musical next year. This biopic focuses on the artist’s life, drive, and inspiration as he prepares for his Dangerous World Tour in the early 1990s.
Months ago, I glittered a 1.25” cube ornament in red. I initially designed for a bulb-shaped ornament (à la my Shrek ornament), then changed to cuboid shape (à la my Beetlejuice/Betelgeuse or Mamma Mia! ornaments) before deciding to use a glass 1.25” cube ornament for the first time.
I’ve tried using 3” cube ornaments in the past, and provided they survive development, they’re still doomed to shatter. I really thought that the smaller cubes would be less fragile, but the deep, jagged cut on my thumb says otherwise. My glittered ornament burst in my hands, so I went back to the cuboid ornaments which are somehow sturdier even with more glass surface area.
About the Ornament
SOOOOO, I glittered a 1”x4” cuboid ornament in red.
As ever, the design is based on various poster and playbill designs. I styled the show year on the back to pay homage to the stylized “MJ” logo on the front. I added a series of Dancing Michael Jacksons to the sides.
I used holographic silver as the base, layered with matte black (and glossy white for the dancing MJ accessories).
In lieu of a bow, I added a small felt black hat. (I didn’t have a bedazzled miniature white glove, so a mini fedora was the next best thing.) I used a simple satin black ribbon for the hanger, and voilà.
This infographic attempts to describe the levels of perceptions we hold between a worry or focus mindset.
