This is a picture of a page in a book, not a hand. My son liked the story, about the boy worrying his worry dolls can't handle all his worries, and need worry dolls of their own. (And yes, my son realized this was going to become a never-ending problem, though that wasn't addressed in the book)
of the good life and forgets to worry about things.
(but I really am just starting to loose my hair aren't I? *worries distractedly*)
These worry dolls from Guatemala are made from pieces of wood and bits of cloth. These dolls hold the worries of children and are then hidden away so that the child is no longer scared or anxious.

The environmental group I am involved with (The Green Sanctuary Committee) held our annual Fair Trade Sale at the Brookfield Unitarian Universalist Church this past weekend. We sell coffee, chocolate, teas and textiles and beaded goods from Central and South America. It is always a success, which is heartwarming to me.
As you can tell from my photos, my favorite things we sell are the fabulously colorful Guatemalan textiles...well, the chocolate, too.

There is a legend amongst the highland indian village of Guatemala. If you have a problem, then share it with a Worry-doll. Before going to bed, tell one worry to each doll, then place them beneath your pillow. While you sleep the dolls will take your worries away.

One of the worst airline meals I have ever eaten - stale bread, overcooked potatoes that needed a spoon to eat, uninspiring flavouring of the chicken and overcooked beans, horrid processed cheder and cake that had a synthetic, industral texture. All I could do was to hope this was not indicative of what lay ahead.
I hope and pray 2011 will bring many improvements and blessings for everyone, but like this gorilla, I can't help being a little worried about it.
