Seen in the the Elephant Transit Home in the Udawalawe National Park. While the concept of rescuing young elephants and returning them to the wild is admirable and laudable, the practical implementaion is disturbing and worrying. In the morning and afternoon the elephants are herded prior to being fed with milk - in groups of three. While waiting to be fed some elephants become distressed and others aggressive - leading to physical attacks and 'bullying'.
This young Asian elephant became very distressed and was being comforted by an older (sibling??) elephant. This was the only 'comforting' behaviour seen during the 'circus' that the feeding session has become (to provide a spectacle for visitors) whereas there was much evidence of aggression resulting from the young hungry elephants being closely herded while waiting to be fed.
We took the cheaper ferry to the Orkneys, which is not roll-on/roll-off. Caravans have to be reversed on, and my mother isn't confident enough at reversing to do it. So someone from the ferry company took over, while she stood and watched nervously...
I was driving to school waiting the red light to change. The sentence in the car was quite interesting in context. However, after watching The Jesus Camp Documentary I realized this pic had to be analized dipeer. The Film shows how extremist Christianity in US teach not to worry or do anything about global warming becouse the end of the world in near.

Shutterbugs Assignment - A Resolution.
One of my resolutions for 2011 is to stop worrying about things that will probably never happen.
My sister gave me this years ago during a rough patch and I still love it. Probably one of my most treasured items. It makes for an apt macro study.
Wishes and Worries tells the story of Maggie and her struggle to understand her father's problem with alcohol.
In this new book, Maggie wishes that her ninth birthday party will be better than her eighth. What a mess that was! Her father had been drinking and totally embarrassed her in front of her friends. Over the year, Maggie begins to get answers to some of her questions as she talks to her teacher, her school counsellor and her parents about her father's problem with alcohol and how it affects everyone in the family. She learns that she is not responsible for her father's drinking, that it's OK to reach out for help, and that there are people in her life that she can trust and talk to about her feelings.
Many of us often worry about life. We want a safe place, security and if possible guarantee about almost everything.
Jesus gives us the His teachings below, c.f : Matthew 6.

Your Father in heaven knows that you need all of these. 33 But more than anything else, put God’s work first and do what he wants. Then the other things will be yours as well.

A man worried constantly about everything. Then one day his friends heard him whistling happily and looking noticeably relaxed. “What happened?” they asked him in astonishment.
He said, “I’m paying a man to do my worrying for me.”
“How much do you pay him?” they asked.
“Two thousand dollars a week,” he replied.
“Wow! How can you afford that?”
“I can’t,” he said, “but that’s his worry.”
While this humorous way to handle stress doesn’t work in real life, as God’s children we can turn our worries over to Someone who has everything perfectly under control even—especially—when we feel it is not.
The prophet Isaiah reminds us that God brings out the stars and calls them all by name (40:25-26). Because of “his great power and mighty strength” not one of them is missing (v. 26). And just as God knows the stars by name, He knows us individually and personally. We are each under His watchful care (v. 27).
If we are inclined to worry, we can turn that worry over to the Lord. He is never too weary or too tired to pay attention to us. He has all wisdom and all power, and He loves to use it on our behalf. The Holy One who directs the stars has His loving arms around us.
Lord, You know there are times when I get really scared. And I forget that You have promised that You will never leave me to face difficulty or loss alone. Help me to trust.
Worry ends where faith begins.

This piece was finished 7/26/03, two weeks after my daughter had a radical bipolar experience which led her to be hospitalized for several weeks. Once again the peace sign emerges, this time from the hand of a parent.
At World Market & found these little dolls that come in a tiny box. They're Guatemalan Worry People and you tell them your worries, put them under your pillow at night and when you wake up they would have taken your worries away...at least that's what the paper inside the box said.
A small page seemed in order today, so thought a quote would be appropriate content. I came across a variant of this quote yesterday, and I liked it, so here it is.

Just before I laid my head on my pillow I had the urge to add to my "nightstand series,". I photographed all sorts of stuff but was unsatisfied. Having seen a few interesting photos of Bible's open on a nightstand I though I'd give that a try. I dusted off my Bible, opened it about midway, and put my eye to the viewfinder. The first thing that came into focus as I turned the focus ring was "Do Not Worry." I found that interesting because I have been worrying a lot about the current financial crisis and how it has been eroding the job market. I have a stable job as a postdoc, but I am looking to get out academia and into the industrial job market. I guess I'll be patient and thankful for what I have.
