Tomorrow is my birthday. For several years now on this anniversary my mind turns to a coincidental but unrelated event. Some years ago, reading the records of the Cromer lifeboats in the lifeboat station at the end of the pier, I noticed that on the exact same day that I was born the Henry Blogg lifeboat rescued two fishermen and their fishing boat, the Why Worry. A small and insignificant, but to me pleasing, coincidence, which each year sets me wondering what became of the two rescued fishermen. Most likely they are now no longer alive. Well into their nineties if they are. And what of their boat, Why Worry? Surprisingly (to me) this year, 2024, I came across it while walking between Wells and Blakeney, moored near Morston, nestled in a creek at the edge of the saltmarshes, looking fine and unperturbed in the October sunlight.

Took this shot before I left for work, he is not very happy

it’s only a Tui scavenging for spiders under the deck railing.

Yes, my stockings feel fine, great! Now I can smile without worries.

This wild turkey likes hanging around our mall parking lot looking into store windows and the chrome of vehicles, pecking at his reflection who we guess he thinks is a competitor for the seed children feed him. When he's not wandering around he likes to preen and is quite a show-off. With our Thanksgiving behind us but more holidays to come, plus the fact this is a busy intersection, our fingers are x'd he stays safe. He has a name….any guesses?

Everyday the sun disappears a bit sooner behind the hills and it gets colder every day. And although autumn is my favourite season, its also time for some worries.

Are there enough cookies to last through winter? Where is my woolly hat and scarf? Is the little squirrel ok? Where does Pip keep his secret stash? Why is my Uncle so far ahead with fattening up for winter?

I pondered all these questions as the sun was slowly setting on the horizon. So deep in thought I was that I almost missed my Uncle trying to sneak past me with a cup of hot chocolate and some biscuits, almost I say, for nothing ever sneaks past a ninja sheep!

My Uncle insisted that he was only sneaking as not to disturb my meditation… of course… :-)

"I remember Dawson (No Horse) said, 'Once you say your prayers, don't worry about them. If you worry about them, they'll just fade away.'" --Chuck Ross, LAKOTA

Today I need to remember You are everywhere. I need to remember how much You love me. I need to know, Grandfathers, that You are always listening. Today I need to know how much You care. Today I will remember the advice of the Elders. "Say your prayers and then don't worry - know that the Great One has heard you." It's so much easier to do this, Grandfather, when I feel connected to You. My Creator, allow me this day to feel your presence. Let me walk the path of life today and talk to You many times. Give me faith, my Grandfather.

Don't Worry, Be Happy

From the Movie "Cocktails"

Performed by Bobby McFerrin

Here is a little song I wrote

You might want to sing it note for note

Don't worry be happy

In every life we have some trouble

When you worry you make it double

Don't worry, be happy......

Ain't got no place to lay your head

Somebody came and took your bed

Don't worry, be happy

The land lord say your rent is late

He may have to litigate

Don't worry, be happy

Lood at me I am happy

Don't worry, be happy

Here I give you my phone number

When you worry call me

I make you happy

Don't worry, be happy

Ain't got no cash, ain't got no style

Ain't got not girl to make you smile

But don't worry be happy

Cause when you worry

Your face will frown

And that will bring everybody down

So don't worry, be happy (now).....

There is this little song I wrote

I hope you learn it note for note

Like good little children

Don't worry, be happy

Listen to what I say

In your life expect some trouble

But when you worry

You make it double

Don't worry, be happy......

Don't worry don't do it, be happy

Put a smile on your face

Don't bring everybody down like this

Don't worry, it will soon past

Whatever it is

Don't worry, be happy

Not even on the same street.

A rainy morning spent at New England Demolition and Salvage. This image jumped out at me.

I recently did a project in which I asked my sons to describe, in one word, how living with diabetes has impacted their lives. I wrote that word on their hands and took their portraits. My word would be worry, but I worry too much and too often to fit it on just one hand. I have not slept through the night in 5 years. I never turn off my cell phone when I away from them. I am concerned that their future will be fraught with health challenges. I used to be as care free as any Dad can be, but now I just worry!

Worry dolls are very popular in Guatemala. Tell them your worries, put them somewhere safe and they will take care of the rest.

I guess you could call this a worried look. I'm not really sure, haha.
